Chapter 13: Six Years Ago pt. 6
Six Years Ago pt.6: **A Night of Terror
After long hours of work, Rian now finally finds herself sitting on the sofa of her apartment's living room.
*That was a hell of night at the restaurant.
The room was dark.
*He must be sleeping already.
When she turned, her attention caught the dishes covered on the table.
She hurried her way there to find portions of that night's dinner that Xander must have left for her. A smile unconsciously worked up to her face at the sight which she quickly erased upon realizing.
She wasn't hungry but ate it anyway.
*He really cooks like a chef.
He was still there but Rian had started to picture herself again without Xander.
After he leaves she will be back to her nonchalant life waiting for her 18th birthday. She won't be bothered even if it's already months since she last cleaned the house nor won't she eat breakfast for she wakes up late every morning and is unable to prepare one.
*Yeah, that's it. We were just passersby on each others life. I shouldn't make a big deal out of meeting him. Nothing will change even if he leaves, I'm still the old Rian who lives for my grandmother's expectations.
With these thoughts, she comforted herself before going to sleep.
Tomorrow is saturday so she won't have to wake up early to go to school since there are no classes. She also don't have undone projects that needed to be submitted next week.
She's likely to spend time all-day in the house tomorrow which she hated. She wanted to be busy tomorrow so that she won't get to see him leave. She plans to act unconcerned about his departure.
*Whatever, I'll just call Mayla first thing in the morning and ask her to go out.
Mayla has been her friend since elementary. They have been classmates until they entered senior highschool and picked different strands.
She can't tell that she's her best friend but she's the only person she can call a friend.
Meanwhile, Xander was at the bed lying awake, tossing and turning. He had decided bot to sleep that night for him to leave early while Rian is still asleep.
He already heard her footsteps earlier indicating her arrival. He also heard the clinking of spoon and fork against the plate.
*Gladly, I left something for her. I know her work must be tiring.
He kept his eyes wide awake staring at the ceiling. His heart troubled by the fact that it was only hours away before they flee again and come back to where they originally belonged.
He worries about the success if their escape. It is now or never. If they escape they live, if not, only God knows what might happen.
In the dark night of summer, a figure of a man walking down the street is seen. He is clothed in black which makes his appearance hidden within the shadows.
He continued to walk until he reached his destination. He stood hundred meters away from it, inspecting the surroundings for possible passers.
After confirming that the coast was clear, he continued his steps towards it.
It was an apartment comprised of three flats. It is already known to him that the other two were vacant which makes his mission more easy. Furthermore, his target is currently living alone.
"Take her to me before sunrise on the agreed place. I'll decide what to do with her after. Your job will be finished after she's been taken care of." The order that continuously echoes on his mind as he picked the door's lock.
He will successfully finish this mission and get that promised reward—is the only thing on his mind.
And after almost a minute, a certain click made his lips curve upwards.
He slowly turned the doorknob and opened the door. What welcomed him was the dim light shining into the entire living room.
Fortunately he was unable to see Rian lying on the sofa for it was not facing at the entrance. The back of the sofa completely hid her body away from her supposed demise.
The man in black made his way inside, carefully landing his steps to avoid making any sound.
The bedroom's door caught his eye and hastily went for it thinking that his target might be there. He started picking the lock.
Unknown to him, was that Xander who was wide awake saw the twitching of the doorknob.
*Is that Rian? What would she be doing here at this hour? She should be asleep already. She must've something to tell me since I'm already leaving tomorrow.
Instead of opening the door, Xander chose to pretend sleeping. He wanted to avoid any conversation at that very moment or else his plan if leaving unnoticed will be a failure.
He pulled the blanket over his body and tightly shut his eyes. After doing this, the door came open. He heard the footsteps nearing him. He can feel her standing just beside him.
He was caught in surprise when he felt an enormous force covering his mouth with a scented handkerchief.
