Chapter 15

**Chase**


Working in the restaurant has always been the best part of my day. It was a way for me to escape into the bustle of the world. A way for me to score a good hook-up and just enjoy the energy of the crowds. All that changed in one day. One look at a beautiful vampire has completely turned my world upside down. Now being here feels like I'm being pulled away from what I really want to be doing which is wrapping myself around Nova. I have never been clingy for obvious reasons, but if there was a way to permanently strap myself to that girl I would.

Everything about her has me all twisted up inside. She thinks what happened when she lost control would scare us off. She thinks she is a monster, but I think she is the most amazing woman I have ever met. There is so much I want to know about her, the good and the bad. I can see there is so much more to under all her insecurities and we got a glimpse of it. She could be a force if she let herself accept how truly unique and powerful she is.

I'm just one of the poor saps that want to watch her discover every new thing about herself. We may be big bad creatures of our own, but our girl is going to be the one to put us in our places. The memory of her fangs and red eyes focused on me makes my dick stir. It has been working overtime since I met Nova. I so badly want to get more than a small taste of her. Our kiss was hot, but I have been craving more.

I know that makes me sound like an asshole given all the stuff she's dealing with, but it's in my nature. Also, everything she does turns me the hell on which is going to be a big problem if I don't get some relief soon.

"Chase!" A feminine voice pulls me from thoughts of my girl and I notice a girl heading toward the bar.

I continue prepping things behind the bar as she moves closer until she's leaning against the bar. Her tits are practically falling out of her top and when she leans forward I get a clear look at them. Normally that would have my hunger raging and I would work a little magic to get her in back for a quick fuck, but I don't feel anything. There isn't any desire building in me. It's a strange feeling but I'm glad. I would hate to crave pleasure from someone else when Nova is my mate. I don't want to hurt her ever, and looking for a fix from some random woman would do just that.

"Where were you last night? I came looking for you." The woman bats her eyes at me but I don't take her bait.

"Something came up," I say flatly and move my attention back to what I was doing before she showed up.

"Chase..." She whines and I groan internally.

She's a clinger. We probably hook up once and I can't remember. I'm guessing she's looking for another ride on the Chase train but like hell is that happening. I never doubled dipped in any chick and even if I did those days are done.

"Look sweetheart, I gotta get ready for the rush. So either order a drink or take a hike." She gapes at me but I ignore the hurt I see in her eyes.

"But Chase..." She gasps and I look up to see her staring wide-eyed at something behind me.

I turn and smirk when I see Nova standing at the door that leads to the back. She has her eyes zeroed in on the girl and is shooting her a look that would have a full-grown man shitting himself. I walk over to her and wrap my arm around her waist.

"I thought you were going to check out things with Asher," I say before leaning down and kissing her neck.

Damn, she smells good.

"I was but I wanted to say goodbye first. I didn't realize you would have a guest." She doesn't sound pissed at me but she sure isn't taking her eyes off the chick I had been brushing off.

"She seems to think I need some help." I run my hand down her arm until I reach her hand and I move it so she can feel how hard I am.

Her eyes snap to me and I watch her eyes bleed from red to gold to black.

"I see." She says before looking at the girl again and stepping away from me.

I turn and lean against the cabinets and watch the show. My girl is about to lay down the law and I can't wait to see it.

"You came to see Chase?" She asks the girl with that sweet voice of hers.

The girl scoffs and flips her hair over her shoulder. "Yeah. We have a thing going on. In fact, we were together last week."

The girl tips her chin up at Nova, but my girl doesn't react. That is until dark purple smoke starts to swirl around her and dances along her arms like tentacles. The smoke moves smoothly until it wraps around her wrists like bracelets. She lifts her hand and taps her fingers on the counter. The movement catches the girl's attention and her eyes grow wide at the sight of my girl's deathly sharp claws. The black tips of her fingers add a menacing look and with the smoke she's conjured she looks fucking badass.

"I think you need to find someone else to bother. In fact, I don't think you will be coming back here again. Right?" Nova says in a low voice that sends shivers over my skin.

"I-" The girl stutters and glances over at me.

I shrug. She looks back at Nova and swallows before nodding.

"Good. Bye now." Nova says sweetly.

The girl turns on her heels and rushes out the door without looking back. I drop my head and bite back a laugh.

"Well, that was interesting," Nova says and I look up at my beautiful girl with a proud smirk.

"Sorry to say it won't be the last time some chick shows up looking for me. Sorry about that sweetheart." I move toward her and cage her in by resting my hands on either side of her on the counter. "Forgive me?"

She raises a brow at me but she slowly smiles up at me. "I guess that was a little fun."

She lifts her hands between us and moves them side to side admiring the purple rings she's created.

"This is going to take getting used to." She sighs and drops her hands. "I didn't even realize what I was doing until I did it. That's probably not a good thing."

"You'll figure out how to control it, but it was hot as fuck seeing you freak that girl out." I smile down at her and she gives me a saucy smile of her own.

The little minx.

"I have half a mind to stay and play bodyguard, but I should go." She sounds torn but she has nothing to worry about with me.

"I'll be fine sweetheart, but come by when you get back. Then you can scare off as many girls as you like." I don't let her say anything before I lean down and take her lips for a searing kiss.

I moan as she wraps her arms around my waist and pulls me tight against her. Damn, I want to rub myself all over her like a cat or some shit. Maybe if I coat myself in her scent I won't have to deal with any women coming on to me. I'm about to do just that but she breaks our kiss. I make a sound of protest that makes her laugh.

"We can't get carried away." She whispers against my lips.

"We can't? Why not?" I ask kissing along her chin and down her neck.

"Because I'll sink my teeth in you and that may scare some people. Don't you think?" Oh shit.

I make a pained sound and drop my head on her shoulder. "Why would you say that? You're getting me hard so you can turn around and run off with that asshole wolf. So cruel sweetheart."

She laughs again and I pull back to see my beautiful mate's wide smile.

"How about I make it up to you later? Maybe you and I can get some alone time. I think I owe you." Her cheeks turn a cute shade of pink at her boldness which pulls a laugh out of me.

"You are damn cute sweetheart. I won't ever turn down alone time with you." I lean in and steal one more kiss. "Hurry back."

She nods and I reluctantly let her go. As soon as she steps back from me I feel her loss. When she turns and walks away the urge to chase after her nearly overwhelms me. Being away from her is going to kill me every time.
