Part 40. Dante’s POV
His phone was vibrating beside him on the floor, but the Alpha refused to move. Dante was warm, and rested, and just so bloody comfortable; he probably hasn't slept this well in years. Ares was still snoring quietly; his arm draped heavily over the pillow. He frowned when he didn't see Zach anywhere in the room. His brother had a habit of waking up early and patrolling around.
With a sigh, Dante twisted around, but his phone was incessant, buzzing until he finally picked it up. He let out a quiet groan at the caller ID, pushing the mobile against his ears.
"Hello?" He rasped, rolling out and getting on his still slightly sore legs over the edge of the blanket. Chills ran down his body, a wince escaping as his feet touched the floor. It's cold without a cocoon of blankets, and goosebumps broke out all over his body immediately.
"Hello! Why aren't you answering your phone?" His sister asked, sounding distressed and annoyed at the same time.
Pressing his phone against the shoulder, Dante managed to slip into his pants, eyes searching for the shirt. It must be around the bed. "I'm answering it now, aren't I?"
Rayly sighed exasperatedly. "I've been trying to reach you for half an hour now!"
"I was sleeping," Dante distractedly mumbled, finding a crumpled up shirt under the bed before tugging over his chest. The Alpha left the room not before clicking the door shut behind him. "What do you want?"
"Dad has been annoying me because you three refuse to step in the Packhouse. He thinks I can solve the problem being, oh...I don't know a hundred miles away."
She was screeching in his ears at this point, and he couldn't blame his dear sister. They all have been so irresponsible, dodging calls, and when their beta, Cedric, came to check over, Zach made up a lame excuse and sent him away. He must have smelled the heat pheromones on them anyway. It's been three days since that.
All three of them gave vague answers over the phone, sometimes not even bothering to lift the call. Dante was shocked that his stepmother didn't drop in to check on them since she's just as eager for their union with Nora. His chest tightened at the thought of that omega waiting for them in the packhouse. The Alpha had no idea what his brothers might be thinking.
"Dante! Are you even listening?"
He jolted from the daydream, shaking his head. "Yes."
"Liar. Now please go show your face to our father, so he's convinced you all are alive."
He exhaled loudly. "Fine!"
"Did you meet Nora? How is she?"
"I don't think it's going to work out..." Dante trailed, his eyes shifting to the guest room on instinct, teeth sinking into his lower lip. "W-We...umm...We have different interests. I am not sure Nora is the right one for us."
"Wow...good luck convincing her, I guess."
"Her? What do you mean?"
"Nora won't take the rejection lightly as it's been her dream forever to mate all three of you."
Dante sucked a sharp breath at that, his grip tightening around the phone. How did he not know about it? Did his brothers know? If they did, they would have told him already. Besides, it's been years since they last saw each other.
"Are you serious?"
"Deadly."
"This is not good." The Alpha exhaled, turning on the balls of his feet towards the kitchen, his stomach clenching. "We will talk to her as soon as possible then."
"Mhm, you do that."
"When are you coming back?"
"By the end of this week. Ervin and Callan promised to drive me back from the camp."
Ervin and Callan Bruno were two of the quadruple brothers and his cousins who lived a district away. They had their pack. It's been a while since they all saw each other anyway, so Dante was excited to meet them.
"Oh, it'll be fun. See you then."
"Bye, love you, brother, and send my love to Ares and Zach too."
The Alpha shook his head, fondly rolling his eyes before he pocketed his phone and started on breakfast.

Ava stumbled into the kitchen about half an hour later, after Dante had already managed to clean up the mess from the last three days. There were many dirty dishes, the kitchen island cluttered with leftover vegetable peeling, and some milk spilt here and there. The tea was already brewing in the pot, two slices of bread was in the toaster, eggs cooking in one pan, and they were still stocked up with jam and butter in the fridge.
"Hey," The Alpha breathed and leaned back against the counter.
She was hovering in the doorway, not moving, not saying anything, her eyes averted and cheeks turning red.
Dante couldn't help but think that Ava was hit with the memory of their time in the kitchen. The reason why the Alpha couldn't clean the kitchen.
It all started when he slipped out of the guest room to make some food. Ava has been falling in and out of the heat for an entire day now, knotted and exhausted. It was the duty of the Alphas to make sure she's hydrated enough and fed between the intervals. His brothers were changing sheets and trying to air the room.
While he's working on peeling the cucumber, he heard a noise behind him and Ava all but running towards him. Alas, she was muddled and so clumsy in her state that she tripped over.
He immediately rushed towards her and hooked his arms underneath her, saved the omega from falling on her face. A vicious sob crept up and broke out of her throat. "You left me, you left me," She whined, her fingers clutching weakly at his shirt, nose pressed and crying into his throat, her scent intoxicating him, coating all over his skin.
"I was making you something to eat, pup. Please, don't cry," The Alpha assured her though she was too trying to get rid of his shirt, pouting at the mere sight of clothes, to care. It's complicated; her vision was cloudy with exhaustion, her fingers dainty, and her body swaying.
With a husky groan, he replaced her hands, ripping the material of his shirt so she could flatten her palms on his ink-marred skin, a purr working through
the omega.
As slick trickles down the back of her thighs, Ava planted wet kisses up the column of his throat. "Alpha, need it, please."
"Fuck!" He cursed under his breath. "You need to eat—"
She dissolved into frustrated tears as her sharp nails scoured down his chest, leaving an angry pink in their wake. "I...I...n-need you, Alpha. Hurts, it hurts so bad. Please."
A possessive sound, deep and raspy, marked the Alpha's surrender. His hands came around to knead at the flesh of her round ass, hiking her up to his body before satiating her again.
Dante blinked at the memory, trying to ignore the thundering in his chest and focus on Ava.
"How're you feeling? Warm? Do you need something?" The Alpha asked her in quick succession, his hands coming to fall by his sides. A glance at the clock on the wall told him that it's almost nine in the morning. Where was Ares anyway? He must be awake by now.
"I'm fine," She licked her lips, taking a step forward, hands awkwardly clasped together. The omega perched on the empty barstool. "T-Thanks for taking care of me."
Just then, he heard footsteps approaching the kitchen. Tilting his head, Dante found his brother closing in on them, lips set in a tight line.
"Good morning, Ares."
He didn't bother her with a greeting but came to sit in front of Ava.
The omega parted her lips, legs pressed together and eyes casting down. It's as if she knew that Ares was livid, hands balled into fists. Don't get him wrong, Dante was livid the more he thought about her secret. Why could she not trust him of all?
He truly began to think that they were friends, but Ava must be laughing at his naivety. Zach told him several times that his kind nature would allow others to take advantage of him.
"Why did you—"
The Alpha placed a hand on his shoulder, cutting him off because if they were to interrogate Ava, Zach needs to be present. After all, she's his mate too.
"Not now." Dante licked his lips. "We have to wait for Zach."
He heard Ava exhale a relieved sigh, her shoulders sagging.
Ares ran a hand through his locks, tugging at them in frustration as he turned his attention towards the door. "Do you have any idea where is he? I checked in our room, but he's not there, so I assumed he must be in the living room."
"He's patrolling, I think."
Ares turned to the clock. "He should have been home by now."
"I know."
Just then, they heard the sound of the door clicking, and Dante held his breath. He peeked through the tiny gap in the wall separating the dining room. Zach entered in, but he's not alone. Nora was on hanging by his arm, a grin etched on her face.
