Chapter 29: Shall we?
MAVERICK'S P.O.V
Finally, the day came, the day I will get married to Natalie and call her my wife, the day I'll sign another boring marriage certificate. And nothing made sense to me, not even the girl, Natalie because I still had Ruth in mind. I still thought of her. I still felt hurt. I still remember the day I first met her, and how amazing she looked. Her flowery yellow gown, her blonde wavy hair, and her dog that made us get to meet. The way she smiled at me which I thought was the best smile ever, or the way she walked, was very perfect. I still remember every detail as it was, it felt like it was just yesterday. I know I should have moved on and that I should move on but Ruth was perfect. She was everything a man needed. From character to beauty, she was the best. I loved her with every bit of me. Even when my mom didn't approve of her because she was a model, I still loved her and chose her. I wanted her to be the last woman in bed, and the last woman I'll love but it seemed in the end, there was always something more important than I was. Something she loved more than she loved me. It was her job and her lifestyle. Truthfully I remember how her countenance changed when I talked about children, she didn't look happy about it. I'd thought we resolved all that until the day she left. Then it left me confused. I stood still reminiscing on the moments I had with Ruth. It was a knock at the door that brought me back to real life.
"Get ready fast, son" mom called from the other side of the door.
"Okay, on it" I responded, guessing she left.
This morning, my mom had woken me up reminding me that she didn't want us to be late. She had also made my best meal. She said I should be happy because Natalie was a good girl and she so approved of her. And also because she was leaving Chicago for her surgery soon; like a day after. But was she right? What if Natalie grows up one day and files for a divorce too, just what if? I sighed with all those thoughts clouding my mind as I turned on the shower and it began pouring down my body. Levi had texted me that he was on his way, he was going to be my best man. After the shower, I stepped out of the bathroom whilst drying my body. One of the maids had already come in and dropped my clothings on my bed.
I stared long into the mirror examining myself. The first time I was getting married, I didn't even sleep, I was so eager to get married. I was the first to get dressed before anyone did; my mother and Levi. I was so happy, maybe a bit nervous but I was happy and expecting. But this time, my feelings are mixed. I was scared, angry, nervous and at the same time expecting. I couldn't explain just how I felt or how I will feel when I meet the girl, Natalie.
I went over and grabbed my clothes and began to wear them. It didn't take me long to wear the cloth. It matched my hair color too. Levi had suggested the day before that I changed the color of my hair. Well, he succeeded in persuading me and I ended up with silver-colored hair. Since my tuxedo was grey, it kinda had a matching with my hair and I sort of liked it as I admired myself in the mirror. With that, I smiled. "I should really get over Ruth for once" I mumbled to myself, breathing out air heavily. She obviously had gotten over me, I suppose because I always see her post with either this guy or that guy, she looked so happy without me.
I heard the door open and I turned to find Levi standing at the door in a matching color tuxedo as mine. He looked so good, somehow I wished it was the other way round, that he was the one getting married and I his best man.
"The groom is glowing," Levi exclaimed. I looked at Levi with a little bit of anger because he of all people knew I didn't want the wedding, I didn't want to get married. He was just teasing me, I could tell from the grin on his face.
"Just shut up," I fired back and frowned.
"C'mon now, don't frown on your wedding day," he said giggling.
"It's not funny dude" I replied and smiled.
He walked into my room and gave me a handshake. "Plus I think it's time you get over Ruth Mav," He said. Correct, he was right. I should move on. Natalie is still a young girl, I could groom her to be mine. I could groom her to become what I want and keep her away from the influence of the world. Then she wouldn't be biased to leave me too. It was scary but I would never know until I tried.
"I guess I will," I said, agreeing with Levi. We both stepped out to find my mom. She was already in the lobby waiting for us. She looked beautiful. And her blue gown did the best justice to show off her curves. Her straight hair fell to her collarbone.
"Hey mama, you look beautiful as always," I said, hugging my mother and planting a kiss on her chin.
"Thank you, son, you look the best" she responded and I released her from my hug. Levi stood by the corner smiling like a kid. He was looking at my mother with admiration in his stare like she was his woman or something.
"What's up, man?" I called, pulling his hand and calling him back to life, because he was lost.
"Mrs. Vii, damn! I just want to propose t[ you right now, you look exceptional" he said.
"Levi careful, that's my mother and she's way older than you are" I cautioned him, preventing him from holding my mother's hand.
"So? Who are you to say no when Mrs. Vii says yes" he said, beating my hand off his way. All along my mother was smiling, she was flushed. Levi planted a kiss on the back of her palm after taking it in his.
"Thank you, Levi," my mom said.
Mom said she had gotten a message from my father to wait for him, she said he wanted us to go there together. So, we all sat down on the long silver bench waiting for my father. A maid brought juice for us while we waited. My father wasn't one to rely on to be early for an event. It was mostly his nature to be late and we were used to it. It was only 5 minutes before my father arrived in his limo. Personally, I was surprised, I thought he would come maybe in an hour or more.
"How's the groom ready to take his bride?" He asked with a smile coming closer to us. My father wore the widest smile on his face. His white suit looked so perfect and best on him together with his hat. I hugged and greeted him. He turned to my mother and smiled. Taking her hand in his, he kissed softly and swiftly. "You look good, my angel," he said to her. He still called her my angel regardless. She smiled and said a thank you to him. He shook Levi's hands with a smile.
"Now shall we?" He asked us all, gesturing with his hand towards the black limo.
