Chapter 34: New Phase
NATALIE'S P.O.V
It was a silent minute's drive to his house in the limo. I wasn't spoken to through the drive nor did I speak to him. This was the worst nightmare I have had in my life, and I earnestly wished I would wake up from whatever grief or trauma it is that is waiting for me. But that grief is one I know I wouldn't be able to escape since I am already married to Maverick. I had received a text from Taylor, he wanted to see me, but I ended up texting him back with a lie. I couldn't find any courage to tell him I am married to one of the known billionaires in America. How do I even find the courage to tell him? Will I ever see him again? There was no one to give me answers to my questions
Maverick's house was a beautiful sight, and it gave me this sweet feeling of ease. Looking at the flowers and shrubs planted almost around the compound was something I can stand to look at all day. It was a beautiful and alive environment, a perfect one at that. Especially because I love everything that I see. Did my mother tell him what I love? She was very much capable of such. There was a specific spot that had a shady tree, a comfortable zone to sit in. A very good place to sit and maybe read during the summer periods because I love to read. The sight was so overwhelming that I'd forgotten what I needed to do and that was to get out of the car. Maverick had gone out, ignoring me and acting like I didn't exist or like I wasn't in the car with him. A normal gentleman would help the lady get out of the car, but it was sadly obvious, that the one I married isn't a gentleman after all. I sat still in the limo looking out through the opera window and taking in the feel of the environment.
"Ma'am, are you not coming out of the car?" His driver asked, coming over to me. I nodded my head instinctively and let him take my hand as he helped me get out of the limo. The driver was a sweet guy, he looked older than Maverick and I just wondered if he was being ordered around by Maverick. I pity the young man. He might probably be a grumpy boss to his employees. I felt sorry for all of them already.
"I'm Natalie, call me Natalie, it's okay. What's your name?". I asked, with my most polite voice.
"I'm Eric, ma'am" he responded tending to bow curtly. It was new and strange for me. I wasn't used to getting bows from people that were older than I was. It was going to be different now, and I'll be made to get used to the billionaire lifestyle, one I'd never wanted or dreamed of.
"Natalie please" I corrected. It was obvious, he was a strict one. He must have given Eric those orders that he adhere to strictly. Besides he doesn't like that he's married to me, so I can be called whatever I choose to be called, and that includes my name.
There were so many servants standing outside. Maybe not so many but compared to the number I usually see in homes. Eric carried my bags and began to go inside the house and I followed him behind. At the door, the servants greeted me in a very formal way, the way I usually see them do in movies. It felt good, I felt rich. It would have been a very comfortable feeling to take in if the situation was different. When I walked in, oh my God! It didn't look like a house, it looked like a castle. My already stressed heart which had been beating fast and stressed from the whole wedding now stopped for a while. I'd seen a little part of heaven or so I thought because I wouldn't doubt it if I was told it was a chamber in heaven. It was of a beautiful white color that appeared very big, and the rooftop was very high. The Chandler was very big, it was like nothing I'd seen before in my life. From the place I stood, I could see the view of the blue pool through the large glass window, it was an amazing site to behold and I was stunned by the beauty of the whole house. Everything inside the house was clean and so in order. I had almost forgotten whose house it was and for what reason I had come here. Eric dropped the bags and stood beside me, maybe waiting for the next instruction.
An elderly woman in her late forties I suppose, who I saw talking to Maverick before, came to me after Maverick asked her to show me my room. She asked me to follow her and I did, with Eric coming after us with my bags. The room was a double of mine. The bed was bigger than what I used to have. I didn't like that I was there but I loved the feeling I got the moment I stepped into the room.
"This is your room," the elderly woman said. "You are welcome, " she added. Eric dropped my bags and left the room. "By the way, I am Jane," she said with a broad smile showing off her dimples. She was a beautiful woman, she had a chubby but firm body and she spoke kindly to me too.
"Thank you, I'm Natalie," I said
"I know milady, you are most welcome I'll run you a bath, and when you are done, the table will be set for food," she said and began walking towards the bathroom
"I'm not hungry please," I told her. There was no need to feed at the moment, I had lost any appetite to consume anything at all. Jane didn't look pleased from the look on her face when she turned to me but she smiled almost immediately concealing the sad look.
"No problem then, I'll run you a bath," she said to me. When she was done, when she came out from the bathroom, I was already seated on the bed, it was a soft one. It's not like the one in our house isn't soft, it's just the one in Maverick's house felt so much softer like fur and wool. Especially the quilt. It was a sky blue color, the color of the sky, and one of my best colors.
"I'll leave you to rest," she said, again with a broad smile, and left the room, closing the door behind her. I was still in my wedding gown but that didn't matter. I just wanted to rest, then I can begin to face this new phase of my life, the one phase I would never and didn't choose for myself. A phase I already hate so much, but behind my heart lay a little bag of hope. Like I always have been my whole life, hopeful that one day I'll be free from this cage I'm trapped in. So, I just lay in bed with my eyes closed, all I wanted was to sleep.
