Chapter 19: Mother Is Hood
Anna's POV
"Just get the door Antonio. They've already seen your car outside," I said as I pointed to the door when the heavy knock came.
Antonio opened the door slowly and Melissa busted through along with the other Mrs. Kissle.
I froze. Too stunned to say anything but I wasn't intimidated by their presence.
"Hello," Mrs. Kissle greeted while gazing around the house.
"Hello and welcome," I answered.
"Oh I'm not here for your welcome. So you're the girl who trapped my son into bed with you and into buying you a house?" She made small steps towards me but I stood my ground.
'Rich' was paved all over her. She had blonde hair that was neatly cut in a bob and framed her oval face perfectly. Her blue eyes were like Antonio's and she was fit for a woman of her age group. The outfit and jewelries she wore could feed an entire third world country for a week.
"I never trapped your son into anything. The last time I checked, he was a grown man capable of his own decisions," I defended.
Mrs. Kissle smirked but that quickly disappeared. She turned towards her son next who was standing next to Melissa as a husband should stand next to his wife.
"Antonio, why you brought this girl a house, and don't even think about lying to me."
He mounted his answer silently.
"Speak up!" his mother snapped at him.
"Because I wanted to," he answered.
"Oh you wanted to? You're now a married man dishing out favors for former employees like if you owe them anything. Or maybe you do."
"Mother, it's not like that."
"Oh really? Isn't she a former maid?"
"Yes."
"Your money purchased this house, didn't it Antonio?"
"Yes."
"Exactly. So please enlighten me on where I'm wrong."
He paused. There wasn't an answer to give. Mrs. Kissle turned to me again.
"Listen, I know exactly what you did with my son but I'm telling you that that is over. He's now a married man with a classy and beautiful wife. Something you'll never be.
You better stay away from my son and his wife because if I have to come back here, you wouldn't have a roof over your head by the time I'm through with you."
"Mother," Antonio almost yelled.
"Don't you dare interrupt me!" she yelled at him.
"With all due respect Mrs. Kissle, that decision isn't up to you. It's up to Antonio," I said.
"Don't you have any pride and respect for yourself? You think sleeping with my husband is going to get you anywhere in life? You did enough to me and the home I'm desperately trying to build with him. You did enough with your lies and tricks!
Why can't you just let us be?" Melissa's eyes teared up and I saw the pain in them.
"You ought to be ashamed of yourself," Mrs. Kissle directed.
"Okay that's enough! Mother, you had your say now just leave Anna alone!" Antonio cut in and left Melissa's side to come over to mine.
"Antonio, are you trying to put me out of your mistress' house?"
"First of all, she's not my mistress and secondly, you weren't invited so don't act so surprised Mother.
She made a mistake. I made a mistake. But you have no right to come at her like that in her house!"
"You sound so stupid! What had she been doing to you, huh? Do you realize you're talking to your own mother!" Melissa said.
"I know that. I don't need you to tell me that Melissa."
Melissa shook her head and walked out the door.
"You've upset your own wife for this slut! A low life who isn't capable of making it on her own!"
"She doesn't deserve being on her own and I'm not going to let that happen." He stood in front of me and square off like he was challenging his mother.
"You're going against my command Antonio?"
"Yes I am."
"Wow. Just wait until your father hears about this one. Do you think he would be proud of your behavior?"
"He would want me to be a man and accept my responsibilities."
"What responsibilities? Huh? Buying a house for a complete slut?"
"That complete slut is pregnant with my child!" he raged.
I was astonished. I never expected him to tell the truth to his very mother.
Mrs. Kissle held her chest as if she was having a heart attack and I was strongly convinced that she almost had one.
The front door opened again and Melissa walked in with eyes opened so wide that I assumed she had turned into a space alien.
"Did I hear you correctly Antonio?" she asked.
He raked his fingers through his hair when he realized what he had done.
"She's pregnant! She's fucking pregnant and you kept that from me?"
"I can't believe you got this thing pregnant Antonio! What the hell is wrong with you? Have you completely lost your mind!" Mrs. Kissle yelled.
"Mom. Melissa. I never meant for the truth to come out like this."
"How did you want it to come out? When the baby is born?" Melissa was crying again.
"I'm so disappointed in you. You've single-hand turned this family's name into a disgrace!
Your father had built everything and handed it over to you and this is what you do? Have affairs with maids?"
"Mom,I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize to me Antonio! Apologize to your wife who's crying her eyes out because of you!"
"Mel, I'm sorry." He looked at Melissa with sorry eyes.
"I don't want your sorry Antonio," she said then paused.
Then she said the words I never thought I'd hear her say.
"I want a divorce."
