Chapter 20: Commitments
Antonio's POV
"A divorce?" I asked in total disbelief when I found Melissa in our master bedroom.
She was rampaging through her walk in closet, throwing clothes into a suitcase when her arms and hands were filled with them.
"Mel, baby I'm sorry." I attempted to stop her but she pushed me away.
"You're sorry? You think you can just apologize and everything would be forgiven, Antonio?
You lied to me. You looked me in my eyes and lied to me."
She continued packing but with every pieces of clothes she put in, I took it out and hung it back in the closet.
"Stop it!" she yelled.
"Please don't leave me. I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you but I thought I was doing the right thing."
"By lying to me? I'm not your fiancee anymore Antonio, I'm your wife! We took vows and you broke them!"
"Baby, nothing happened between her and me again. I only brought her a house because of the baby."
"Did you really because I don't believe you."
"I swear to you that nothing happened. I wouldn't hurt you anymore. I'll be good baby. I promise and I'm sorry."
She slowly walked into my arms and I hugged her tightly against my chest. I had realized how selfish I had been towards her.
Sure, she had her flaws - many flaws, but I wasn't single anymore. She was my wife and I had to make her happy. She deserved happiness too.
"Hey, are we going to be okay?" I asked. I brushed the hair strands away from her eyes and titled her head upwards.
"I believe so. I love you."
"I love you too baby. I love you very much."
"Just please don't lie to me ever again. I want to be there for you and to stand next to you."
"Sure. I'm sorry."
And with that, our bodies went to the bed.

On Friday, I had an early boardroom meeting at my company. As I got into my Lamborghini to leave the house, my cellphone rang.
I looked at the caller and it was Anna. I signed with slight annoyance and answered through my bluetooth as I drove out the gates.
"Hey."
"Good morning. Are you on your way Antonio?"
"I'm on my way to work."
"But you said you'll be here."
"When, and for what?"
"The doctor's appointment Antonio! I'm having a check-up today."
I raked my fingers through my hair as I continued to focus on the road ahead and what she had just told me. I completely forgot.
"Anna I'm sorry but I wouldn't be able to make it. I've got a really important business meeting with some investors this morning."
"But you said you wouldn't miss this Antonio. It's the first appointment and I wanted you there with me."
"I'll make it to the other one. Enjoy the rest of your day."
I hung up.
______________
At midday, I got another phone call from Anna and what she told me had me running out of my office and heading towards her house.
She had fell down the stairs.
I bursted through the front door and ran to the flight of stairs that led up to the bedroom.
"Anna!" I called, worried that she was badly hurt and unresponsive.
"I'm in here Antonio!" I heard her called from the kitchen direction.
I made a beeline to the kitchen and found her sitting comfortably with her feet up on the table and laid back in a chair having ice-cream.
"What? How are you feeling? Is the baby hurt?" I was panicking but Anna had a smile on her face.
"I'm sorry but I lied. I just needed you over here."
"Are you kidding me Anna! You called me from my job with a lie!"
"Please don't be mad at me. I wanted to see you. I miss you."
"That's your problem Anna! You failed to realize that I'm not your man. I'm married!"
"I'm well aware but she doesn't love you like I love you. She wants a divorce and when she does divorce you, you'll be coming to me."
I exhaled heavily. "That's not going to happen. We're not getting a divorce and even if we were, I wouldn't run into your waiting arms."
The spoon she was eating the ice-cream with, she threw it at me.
"Why you don't wanna be with me, huh?
Is it because of the color of my skin? Are you scared that I wouldn't fit into your world so you're sticking with Melissa's ass. You don't even love her!"
"I love her!"
"Then why did you had sex with me while she was in the house?!"
She smirked when I couldn't answer.
"See, you don't love her!"
"That has nothing to do with it. I was caught in the moment and things happen but that doesn't justify the love I carry for Melissa. I'll never be yours Anna and I'd appreciate it if you don't call my phone ever again.
I'll be here for the baby when it's necessary but I'm not going to play house with you. I want my marriage to work with my wife."
"Antonio.... Antonio! Wait! Don't go!" She yelled as I walked out the door.
I got into my car and drove off while she stood in front the door with tears rolling down her face.
My heart was heavy in my chest and I hated myself for feeling that way. It was obvious that I had strong feelings for her and it was painful to bury them but I was committed to Melissa.
