Chapter 24: Discovery

Anna's POV

"Anna, are you alright? Are you in pain?" I heard Antonio's faint voice echoed in my head as it spun faster and faster.

That son of a bitch!

There's only one explanation to this!
He was living a double life with my mother!

"Anna?" Antonio shook my shoulder gently.

"I'm fine," I answered once I had stopped thinking about it and fearing the man who made my life a living nightmare in my teen.

"Dad, this is Anna Wells. The former maid who's pregnant with my baby. Anna, this is my father."

"I'm aware," I patched out and locked eyes with his.

"I'll get you a glass of water," Antonio offered to me and made a beeline to the kitchen.

His father walked slowly over to me with a weird smile on his face as if I had caught him redheaded in a big lie.
Technically, I did.

"So you're the one who trapped my son?"

"Oh save it Peter, I know it's you! How could you Peter?"

"How could I what?"

"Lie to my mother while living a double life behind her back?

You were still married to Antonio's mother while you were with my mom! You pretended that you loved her but you were lying!"

"Would you keep your voice down! I can't believe after all these years, you're still a pain in the ass."

"I'm going to tell Antonio the truth and I'm going to tell it to your wife as well!"

"I swear, if you utter one word about this to anyone, I'll make your life ten times worse than it already is!"

"Are you threatening me Peter?"

"Wow. Congratulations Anna, you know when someone's threatening you. I see you're not so dumb anymore."

I narrowed my eyes at him and Antonio came back with a glass of water. I drank silently while Antonio and his father had a soft conversation in the corner away from me.

After ten minutes, his father left.

"I'm sorry if I caused any problem between you and your father," I said and wheeled myself over to him.

"He's just upset because I cheated on my wife with you."

"Like he's the one to talk," I mumbled with annoyance but Antonio caught that.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked.

"Nothing. I just don't like it when people try to rule other people's lives."

"Oh. Well he has always been that way. I admire him ever since I was a kid. He treated mom like a queen, and never once had he been unfaithful to her. We were the perfect little family everyone admired."

"Oh Antonio, if you only knew."

"I'm sorry that he wasn't pleasant."

"That's okay, he can't be pleasant if his life depended on it."

"He's not always like that."

"Antonio, he's always like that!"

"Anyways, Elizabeth would be here soon and I'm heading down to the company before it's all taken away from me."

I watched as he headed upstairs and I went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast but it wasn't easy being in a wheelchair.

After failing to reach the items I wanted in the cabinets, I gave up but Elizabeth and another gentleman walked in.

A handsome looking gentleman. A chef.

Melissa's POV

"Pull yourself together and fight for your marriage!" Mrs. Kissle advised firmly as she sat down next to me on the bed with a box of tissues in her hands.

"Are you going to let that maid have her way with your husband?"

"How can I fight when he's not fully committed to only me? Apart from the baby, he has feelings for her, Alice."

"That feeling is only lust. Her curvy body and pretty face and the manner she could satisfy him. It's only lust. He's not in love with her nor will he ever be so pull yourself together and go back to your husband. He's yours."

"I can't. I wouldn't compete for him. I shouldn't have to!"

"Melissa sweetheart, everything in life is a competition. You think I would of gotten to where I am today if I had given up on my husband."

"You had a happy life Alice. Peter was a good man to you."

She laughed loudly and startled me.

"A good man? There's no such thing and maybe that's why you're so heartbroken because you gave no room for disappointment and you fell too much for my son.

Peter wasn't a good man Melissa. He pretended to be but I'm no fool. I knew he was cheating on me and I had him followed. He would pretend he's traveling abroad but actually, he was living a secret double life with a black woman."

I was stunned.

"And you didn't say anything to him?" I asked her.

"No. I knew the truth so I didn't see the point of asking him anything."

"Really, that's very unlike you."

"You see Melissa, we weren't always rich. In fact, we were the opposite of rich. Antonio barely saw us when he was growing up because we had to work our tails off to provide everything but the company I worked for, ran into financial difficulties and had to make cuts and I was cut.

Peter and I were struggling but suddenly, he started earning more money than he usually did so I knew something was wrong.

I had someone tailed him and I found out that the woman he was seeing, although she was a black woman, she was extremely rich.

I allowed him to see her for years and I pretended I didn't know anything about it. We needed the money she was providing but then jealousy took control of me because I was hardly seeing my own husband."

"What did you do?" I was fearing the worse and I didn't like the way this story was going.

Alice's eyes narrowed with a dark tint to it she looked possessed.

"I had her poisoned."
