Chapter 15

CHAPTER 15

"WHAT?" Mikael kneaded Janette's hands. He tried to lessen the stress in her body but it seems like her pent-up frustration with her brother had taken its boiling point. 'What if she backs out of our agreement? Where would I pick myself then?' It was hard trying to convince her to claim him. And he couldn't risk taking a bath of beer— he had already made that scheme. Mikael is afraid he'll ran out of idea at this point. 'Can't have that prick ruin my chance.'

Max can be the death of his wife. That's no secret to him.

"What did you just say? Max is travelling now back to the city—" Janette snapped her head to his direction. "Mikael, move to the kitchen for now. Please. I have something to tell them."

Mikael glanced discreetly at the series of bowed heads in front of him. One of the officers is giving him a pleading look. He pretended he couldn't see it. "I know what are you going to do. And it's not good to take all your frustrations out of them. They're not Max. That's not good for you."

Janette huffed. "You think you can be the boss of me?"

'No. Please don't get mad.' Mikael worried over his lower lip for a moment before sighing. "Fine. I'll go. I remember I have to do something for this afternoon."

"Good." Janette raise a brow before dismissing him. Mikael carefully crafted a devastated expression in his face before slowly turning around.

"Okay... I'll go now." He took three painful steps in a turtle-like pace. Mikael looked back at Janette then again said, "I'll really... really go now."

He caught Janette's eyelid twitching with an annoyed appearance. She clicked her tongue. "Damn it. Come back here! Fine, you stay!"

It was not an exaggeration to say that the men standing before Janette sighed in relief. Mikael meekly took the seat beside Janette and continued kneading her hands.

"Look at these fingers, they're all tense. You shouldn't stress yourself so much. What if you suddenly choke on your own spit?"

Janette forced her lips shut. She eyed Mikael maliciously. Kael definitely know that Janette won't act so heartless in front of him. She's still afraid of scaring Mikael. Vampires are not beautiful creatures.

"Be serious." She chided. "Did you know something about Max' return?"

Mikael struggled to put a good word for Max. "Ah, that scumbag! Yes, yes. Obviously, he wants to brag about his fated mate. You know him. He probably wants you to personally see her before announcing it to the coven."

Janette's face didn't make a clear reaction about Mikael's words but the stiff shoulders softened visibly to his own eyes. "So he still know how to flatter me? Good! He should! He wasted all of my efforts to secure him this vacation! I even accepted half of his paperworks then I'll come to know about his disregard of my wishes? It's not like I asked him to drink poison! Kael, you tell him that!"

Seeing her usually dark pupils become bright red, Kael nodded with fascination and a smile. "Of course..."

'She still looked her best when she's angry.' He mused. 'Good thing because she's basically angry the whole time we're together.'

"UNCLE." Jeffrey sneezed. He walked out of the empty basement before continuing, "Mom sent a list of all the things that she like. She said you don't need to exhaust your mind thinking of how to ease her wrath. I'm sure you'll be happy to know this."

"Naturally." Max couldn't hide the relief in his voice. He hated fighting with Janette. Until now he still doesn't know who's more immature between them. "Send me the list now. Give your best and you have my permission to show off during your field work. Goodluck!"

"Thank you, Uncle Max!"

Max ended the call with the small curve at the end of his lips. He waited for the notification in his e-mail and nodded with satisfaction when he received the file.

Janette finally realized that now that he has a mate, he needs to focus on prioritizing his life than her trivial fuss about his lifestyle. All of his bad habit was bound to change now anyway.

'As expected from my only sister.'

He skimmed through the ten things listed on the single page document on his laptop. Max couldn't believe his eyes and decided to read it seriously again.

His smile folded into frown.

Max couldn't stop his hand in time and he started to dial Jeffrey's number.

"U-Uncle Max..."

"What's this?" Max bellowed. "What's this? What. is. this?"

Jeffrey squeaked on the other line. He continued his lament, "Number one, Dolly should stay within her house for two months? Hell no. Number two, I should buy her the latest summer dress collection in her favorite brand? Fine, I can afford that. Number three, she should be the witness of our marriage and number four, my first child should have her name? Does your mom intends to drag our fight for her whole lifetime? What's this? What's this list?"

"It's not a list to appease her! It's the list of the things that will anger me! Material things, I can always give her that. But what about this... this absurd—"

"Uncle, yah! I'm still working! My colleagues can hear you since I put this on loudspeaker—"

"Now you intend to shame me too? My dear nephew!" Max' eyes turned blood red. The veins in his forehead started to pulse rapidly. "I'll talk to your mom, alright! Let's see what she can do!"

"Max?" Dolly came over him. Her wet hair leaving drops of water every time she moves. "What happened?"

Her scent assaulted Max' nostrils. The anger in his chest dissipated a little. He tried to chase the feeling in his heart. He still needed to scold Janette's child. He clearly knows about the content of his mother's list but he still sent it anyway.

This is blatantly disregarding his position in the family!

"I'll visit your mother tomorrow. Tell her that we'll settle this personally!"

Dolly gently patted her hair with the dry towel. Her lips twitching slightly as she noticed how indignant Max' expression has become. 'What made him this mad?'
