Chapter 19

CHAPTER 19

"NOW, NOW..." Yeon-hee gifted Jeffrey a demure smile. When coupled with her parting words, it came out with a teasing mood. "You don't have to avoid me, you know. My mate won't go after you. She knows you're like a baby brother to me."

He wished to be carefree and joke with her but Ria's gaze made it unbearable to be in the same room as her.

This woman slept with his mate.

A lot of times.

He even came to witness it.

Jeffrey heaved a breath. It's not his fault. How can he blame himself if he can't feel the need to be with Cedric.

'Fine.' Jeffrey figured he have to name the feeling in his gut whenever Cedric is near. It's apprehension, the need to appease him. To please him.

But unfortunately, he didn't get the chance. Cedric pushed him mightily off the stage even before he can rationalize the emotions in his gut.

The man was determined to throw him off.

Cedric show off how he can bend Ria on his desk and rut with her as if his mating pull with Jefferson was just a joke. A mistake on the part of the Fates.

He can understand why was the guy so disgusted with being mated to him. He's a man. And as far as he's concerned, Cedric is straight.

A type of man who will never consider a guy as his partner even in his wildest dreams.

"I sincerely thank all of you. You guys treated me well, I will never forget that."

A middle-aged woman snorted but she meant to defend him. "Not all of 'us' was decent with you. I won't be shock if you asked for a transfer because your boss here is being a dick to you."

"Shannon," Yeon-hee warned.

"What? Cedric can't possibly blame me for saying this. The kid is going to move away. We can at least give him our honesty for the last time."

Jeffrey asserted himself before the conversation escalated. "It's fine. And His Grace specifically assigned me to the next office, no one forced me to move out."

"Then that's acceptable." Shannon finally let it go. She move to his side and hug him briefly. "I will miss you, innocent boy."

'I'm hardly a baby.' Jeffrey consoled himself. He's not a good bond mate for Cedric. In the last few weeks, he had a fair share of goofing around with different people each night.

'I guess that makes the both of us even.'

There will be days that he will need comfort from his own mate, considering that his vampire side had already acknowledged Cedric's presence. But it's not like he had no parents and relatives to help him.

Jeffrey only needed to get this matter behind him and forget.

Cedric was not healthy for him anyway.

"YOU'RE SAYING that my son's fated mate, is that hybrid in the coven?" Janette couldn't be more offended upon hearing the news. Max had the audacity to actually laugh. She can imagine his appearance in the other side of the call. Janette doesn't like it.

She faced Jeffrey, whom is peeking at her beyond his lowered lashes. He looked pitiful. Which angered her more considering that 'that hybrid' bastard played with her son.

"Yes. Don't hate Jeffrey for it, it's not his fault. For the record, Jeffrey is a 'hybrid' too. So tone down your biased opinion."

"He's my son! A harmless human! He can't probably make a trouble for that man. Who is he to reject my son? Jefferson Adenhart Duvas— even the name should bring shivers on his back! His standing in the coven is only second to yours!"

"Janette..." Max' searing voice scalded her throat. "You know we can't force him if he doesn't want to."

"What do you want me to do then?! Max, you send my Jeffrey to that scoundrel's door— do you wish to harm him?!"

"No. I don't!"

Janette expected him to explode. But surprisingly, the man only sighed noisily. "Sorry, love. Okay, Janette, I only intended to let Jeffrey know who is his fated mate. Wether their mating pull comes into fruition or not, it's up to them. I only wanted Jeffrey to know and make options for himself! I didn't expect that he'll reject jeffrey— or that Jeffrey would hate him!"

Janette let out an embarrassing high pitched scream.

Mikael appeared in front of her within a flash. His eyes bloodshot and angry. "Stop it," he grumbled.

"Stop what?" Janette forced herself to look in his eyes. She let Mikael sleep through dinner because his mood was still unstable after a few days since she bit him.

But because of her fury, he woke up in a fuss and find her.

The man didn't even bother wearing his clothes. The only piece of covering that he had is the white sheet by his waist.

"Stop feeling upset." He took the seat beside Janette. "I can't sleep when you're mad."

"You have to get used to it because I'll be angry from time to time from now on!" She pursed her lips and scolded Max through the phone. "If it isn't for his bright Uncle Max, your son would've live peacefully for the rest of his life!"

"Max?" Kael grunted. His hand fishing the phone out of Janette's grasp. "Max, you destroyed our special day. What's with my son?"

Janette listened as Max explained everything. After a few minutes, Mikael's brow twisted.

"How can I break this mating pull?"

"Kael, you've just turned for a few days. You're not invincible. You can't do anything at this moment."

"I'm a vampire now. There should be at least a few things I can do to help my son right now. One of the reasons why I'm so eager for this was to finally provide support and protect my family, Max. There should be something I can do."

Janette watched as Mikael's face flush red then pale with rage. She reach for his hand to give him comfort. His intense mood swings are something that has become the new usual now.

"There are a few things indeed. We should never let them be alone together. Every time his chest aches, we should provide him encouragement. Let our familial link tamper the mating pull. That should be enough. The two's bond didn't grow. This shouldn't be hard."

Jefferson put down his utensils. Janette saw as he patiently wipe the sides of his mouth with a napkin before wincing at them. "Mom, I don't feel anything right now. You guys are just... overreacting this matter. See, I didn't even feel like Cedric was anything important to me other than being a prick of a boss. I'll be fine. I have a new job now. I'll be at peace."

Janette felt a twinge of sympathy in her gut. "Don't worry, son. You have us."

Mikael have the same expression with Jeffrey. They thought that everything is simple as avoiding Cedric Mallory. Janette knew better than being complacent to a matter with importance such as dealing with fated mates.

She can only hope that the setback won't be that painful.

She personally experienced the ache when she tried to run away from Mikael before. The pain wasn't anything but simple.
