9 stay away from my fiance

Raige

I woke up feeling energized, despite the lingering dream from last night. Nothing could dampen my spirits today, knowing I’d be seeing Sierra again. Last night, I had snuck to her house and waited outside her window, silently watching her sleep. I wanted to give her a goodnight kiss. From now on, I’ll be following her, whether she knows it or not.

But when I saw my brother, Rojan, talking to Aliyah, my good mood vanished. If Rojan wasn’t my brother, he’d be six feet under right now.

“I’m just saving your ass, bro,” Rojan whispered, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. “Your crazy fiancée will make that girl’s life a living hell. Trust me, I’ve known her for a hundred years. I practically grew up with her.”

We were standing outside, having just escaped a mind-numbingly boring discussion about humans. Seriously, why do we need to know about dead people and their lives?

“I can handle Aliyah myself, Rojan,” I said, my voice edged with annoyance. “I don’t need your interference. I can take care of Hilda, too, so back off and stay away from Aliyah.”

Rojan just laughed. I almost punched him. My rage was building, and one wrong move, I wouldn’t be responsible for my actions.

“I wonder, is she that special to you?” Rojan challenged, a hint of jealousy in his voice. “Are you like that with all your prey before, you know... you kill them? We’re brothers, but I hardly ever see you. As I recall, I only see you once a year at our mother’s birthday. You stay for a day or two, then you’re gone again.”

I tilted my head, remembering that Rojan is my step-brother, his mother just a regular vampire. I, on the other hand, am pure-blood, making me the rightful heir to our father’s throne. That’s why my father allows me to explore beyond our territory. I possess the power to withstand threats outside our realm.

I smirked, aiming to silence him. “Yes, she’s my prey,” I said, my voice laced with a dangerous edge. “And I’ve already warned everyone to leave her alone. So, if I catch you near her again, I might forget who you are.”

“So, that’s how you treat your prey?” Rojan remarked, his curiosity piqued. “Okay, I’ll try to stay away, but she’s tempting, especially since she seems unique compared to other humans.”

I narrowed my eyebrows, sending him a silent warning. “Do that and you’re dead.” This brother of mine, annoying since I was a kid, seems to have only gotten worse with age.

Aliyah

I sighed, feeling powerless. I had hoped to avoid Raige, but I guess this was my destiny. Maybe I should be grateful for the night we spent together instead of dwelling on it. If I hadn’t met him, I wouldn’t have had this chance. He’s a freaking rich kid, and a regular girl like me is nothing compared to those people around him.

At least I have this opportunity to investigate my sister’s death. For now, despite my dislike for Raige, I needed to endure it for my sister’s sake. After the last class, I stood up as those two jerks, the brothers, were rushing out as if something urgent demanded their presence.

That was good news for me. My mind needed a break from those torturous hours of having them sit beside me. Unfortunately, they are my classmates, and, for some unknown reason, the world decided to make fun of me by placing them on either side of me.

Just as I thought I was getting a break, the torture continued as Hilda and her minions appeared out of nowhere.

“I knew you were here.”

My eyes widened in surprise as Hilda and her friends stood before me, just as I was about to finish my food. It was odd seeing these students here; it seemed out of place. She was looking for me?

“Don’t flatter yourself,” Hilda said, her voice dripping with venom. “It was me searching for you. I’m here to warn you to stay away from my fiancé. If you don’t, I assure you, you’ll be thrown back to where you belong, bitch.”

I furrowed my brow in confusion. What was she talking about?

Fiance? Did I even know who her fiancé was? How could I stay away from someone I didn’t know? Ugh…

Hilda stepped closer, and I recoiled. Throughout my college years, I never considered crossing her path. At the party, I’d even done whatever she wanted to avoid her. So why was she accusing me of flirting with her fiance? Who was her fiancé, anyway?

I was a good student, always striving to stay out of trouble.

Hilda swiftly grabbed my hair. I didn’t see it coming; she was too fast. One moment I was thinking, and the next she was pulling my hair.

“Ouch!” I cried out, pain shooting through my head. “Hilda, please! I haven’t done anything wrong. I don’t even know who your fiancé is.”

“I saw you flirting with him yesterday,” she said, her voice laced with malice. “Are you calling me a liar?”

Hilda pulled harder, her friends laughing at my predicament.

“I thought you were just a simple girl who wanted to study and maintain good grades for a scholarship,” Hilda said, her voice dripping with scorn. “But now I see you’re like those gold diggers, chasing the richest man you could find to climb to the top.”

I felt a sharp pain in my scalp as she pulled my hair, but I couldn’t do anything; she was incredibly strong. I started to cry, the pain unbearable. I wished someone could see me and help me; I felt so helpless. But it was peculiar for a student to be misled in this area, so I was certain no one would notice, even if Hilda killed me right here, right now.

I struggled, desperately trying to break free from her iron grip on my hair. It felt like my scalp would be ripped off if she didn’t stop. My body tensed, but Hilda’s strength seemed limitless.

“Please, Hilda, stop it!” I pleaded, my voice cracking with fear and desperation. “I promise I haven’t done anything wrong. If you saw me, maybe that man you’re talking about was just asking for something. Please…” I hoped that my plea might reach her heart and make her stop.
