Chapter 30: I Refuse!

Kara’s POV:

With a throbbing headache on the backside of my head, accompanied by an uneasy strain across my entire body, slowly I was retrieving back my senses. My last fading senses accurately remembered that I was being kidnapped by someone from the school restroom floor while I was groaning in pain, and that sudden realization made me open my eyes with a quick jolt!

Even in my last fading senses, I remembered my heart was deeply petrified from the thought of being dragged away by someone where I might never be able to see Duke Orville again! Just the dreadful thought made my consciousness revive quickly but when my fogged vision started to clear, I found myself lying down on a bed, in an unfamiliar room!

“Kara?”

But my frightened heart seemed to find a bit of relief when I heard a familiar deep manly voice calling me from close. Blinking my lashes slowly, this time I saw Duke Orville’s anxious pale face hovering above me, as if he had been waiting all this time for me to wake up.

Just from seeing his face, the amount of relief my heart felt was astonishing. I had almost forgotten that I was separated from Raphael in the school, but just finding Duke Orville near me almost teared me up, as I quivered, “M-Master…is that you? Or…am I dreaming?”

My words made his eyes a bit grim as I felt his warm soft hands caressing my cold cheeks. He even wiped my tearful eyes, before he stated, “I know what you went through in school, but don’t fret, I am here with you now. Nothing can harm you anymore. You have been passed out for hours…I was starting to get worried now… But thank goodness, you finally woke up…”

Feeling comforted by his words, I slowly sat up on the bed with his help, as Duke also placed a cushion to support my back. When my drowsy senses cleared up furthermore, I saw an elderly man standing next to Duke but he bore a cryptic gaze towards him. His face looked very serious, and he was carrying a stethoscope so I assumed he must have been a doctor.

“Master…where am I? How did I get in here? I…I remember…someone tried to abduct me in school after I was attacked by a perpetrator.” I curiously urged the Duke, while trying to let out the concerning thoughts bothering me. “I couldn’t even meet Young Master Raphael, and he must have been worried for me—”

“You don’t have to worry about anyone else now that you are with me.” But Duke curtly intervened my words, and handed me a glass of water, sounding a bit rigid from his tone.

Strangely even though he was trying to look calm, I could vividly sense extreme anxiety had surfaced his handsome face. While I obediently accepted the glass of water, the doctor walked close up to us and urged me in a cold tone, “So, are you feeling a bit okay now? I have injected you with some medicines, so it might show the effect.”

“My head hurts…and my stomach also hurts…” I answered the doctor in a low mumble, trying to address all the discomforts I was going through. “Also, my whole body feels sore, Sir…”

“Have you been feeling severely nauseous from early morning for the past week? You must have faced loss of appetite and even threw up many times in a day, right?” In response, when the doctor suddenly tossed his direct query at me, I felt a bit startled at his accuracy!

“Yes, I did experience all this…Sir… But…h-how would you know that…” My voice crooked a little in confusion, as I noticed the doctor’s expression was turning dark from my answer.

“Well, I don’t know how to tell you this…but…you have to brace yourself. Your name is Kara, right?”

“Yes, but–”

“Kara, you’re pregnant for 2 weeks now.”

Suddenly, the doctor frowned his face with displeasure, before giving me the most shocking news in my whole life! I spaced out blankly for a few seconds while gazing at the doctor as if my heart wasn’t prepared to hear a truth that would change my whole life! Feeling as if my throat was stifled from the inside, I barely managed to utter a quiver, “M-Me? A-Am I pregnant? B-But I am…w-wolfless!”

“I know…but…I do not understand it myself as well. In my 40 years of medical experience, this is the first case where I am equally stunned.” The doctor addressed me in a grim voice, but I felt as if my ears were ringing inside.

Duke Orville sat beside me on the bed and held a remorseful expression on him when he gently held both of my hands. I felt his arms trembling a little as if he was very nervous, but he managed to speak firmly while meeting my gaze, “Kara…I understand this truth must have shaken you from the inside. On that night, I should have been sane enough to use contraception at least, but…I have done something terrible to you. I won’t blame you for this. So, you should consider it a mistake too… Let’s abort the child because this should have never happened in the first place. I will take full responsibility to free you from the child.”

“W-What?” As soon as I heard Duke’s suggestion, his words felt like a dagger stabbing me deep in the chest, as I couldn’t breathe for a moment. My heart was aching painfully, and unleashing my hands from his hold, I clenched my belly while urging him, “I am also confused regarding what’s happening, but I am carrying your child, M-Master! But you are asking me to abort it?”

“Lord Duke is right.” This time the doctor’s voice sounded more stern than before when I met his icy glare fixated on me, “This is his child. And you are just a black slave offered to him by Her Majesty. You should be rational enough to consider the world in which you two resides. If it has happened by mistake, then Master is taking his responsibility to abort the child. So, you should comply with him too—”

“BUT THIS IS ALSO MY CHILD!”

A pained teary shriek escaped from me as my heart couldn’t endure the torment from their words. Clenching my hands over my belly, I gritted, “I am the one who’s carrying this baby, then shouldn’t you ask for my consent too? I would never want to harm my innocent baby…so how could you want to separate me from my child? No! I won’t do it! I refuse to abort it!”
