CHAPTER 45
I felt numb. I had not changed out of my dress since yesterday or moved an inch from my bed since I entered my room.
The tears had stopped and I did nothing but think. Think about everything that I have lost.
"Paisley" I heard my mothers voice from the other side of the door.
She had come to the door over a hundred times since I locked myself in begging me to open the door but I didn't respond.
It was all their fault. They must have something against me. For a month I begged. Pleaded with them to find Nevaeh. Nothing was done. She refused to show up.
Just when I had fallen in love and accepted everything. When I was about to celebrate my happiest moments, just when I told them that I loved Brayan. They found a way to ruin it for me. Why?
"Paisley please just open the door for me" my mother pleaded. She sounded like she was crying but I didn't give a fuck. I turned over to the other side and covered my ears with my pillow. I eventually slept off.
My full bladder woke me up and forced me out of bed. I relieved myself and I was returning back to my bed when I saw myself in the bathroom mirror.
I looked horrible. Make up smudged, my hair undone and my eyes swollen. I didn't get to see myself beautiful today. The tears started again and I held onto the bathroom sink.
I pulled the dress off and folded it neatly in the bathroom. I took a shower and washed the dirt and tears away.
My eyes was still swollen but I looked so much better. I saw my old phone on the night stand and turned it on. So many messages came in.
They were mostly old messages and a few recent ones. I turned it off back again and put it into the drawer. My stomach rumbled.
I wore something light and then I opened my door. I could hear voices as I walked down the hallway but it stopped as soon as they saw me. They were definitely talking about me. I looked away. I didn't want to see the fake pity and concern. I moved to the kitchen.
"Paisley. How are you doing honey" mama asked me but I didn't respond. I saw an opened box of cream and grabbed some milk from the fridge.
"Paisley" my father called me. I looked at him for a second and looked back at the plate in front of me. He looked okay and well. Silas didn't hurt him. I'm surprised he's here too. The ritual failed. Silas must really be furious. I looked around for Coulter. He was nowhere to be seen. Did Silas still have him?
"We risked our lives for you. The least you could do is to talk to us" I scoffed. Risked her life?
If she was looking for a reaction from me, she wasn't going to get it. I ate slowly and tried to ignore them but they were making it impossible for me.
"Let her be Nevaeh" mother said with a hard voice. I expected her to shut up. Obey like she used to but she didn't and continued talking.
"We helped her and got her out of that mess why is she acting like we took her prized possession away"
"Stop it Nevaeh"
"You stop it. If she wants to be upset at anyone, let it be Silas and those bloody animals. Paisley should stop acting like somebody fucking died"
"I said stop it" papa slammed his hands on the table and she finally shut up. Good for her because I was five seconds away from punching her.
"Paisley. We should have done better. You tried to protect us and in the end....." I didn't want to hear whatever it was he had to say.
I dropped my spoon noisily and stood up from the stool.
"Paisley No. please eat. We'll leave you alone and not bother you but please have something to eat" mama held my hands. I dragged it roughly from her grip and moved away. I could hear her footsteps behind me and I walked faster.
I could also beat father shouting angrily and Nevaeh raising her voice too. They deserved each other and I didn't want to be part of their drama.
I was about to lock my room door when she stopped me.
"Paisley please eat something. You've done nothing but cry since yesterday. I'm scared something bad may happen to you. Just come back and eat some more. We won't say a word to you" I didn't care for food again. They made me lose my appetite.
I tried to shut the door but she held onto it tightly. I looked at her annoyed. She had a sad face on. Normally I would be moved by it but now, I couldn't care less.
"I've apologized countless times even though I've done nothing but hurt you. I never meant for any of this to happen" she cried.
"It's too late" I said and moved her hands roughly from the door. It didn't matter how remorseful they felt at this point. They had already ruined my life.
"They brought something for you" she said before I could lock the door. I paused and looked at her. They brought something for me? I stared at her waiting for to show it to me.
"It's in my room. I'll just get it. You can sit on your bed but please don't lock the door. I ignored her and she ran to her room. I waited there for her curious to see what they brought for me.
When I saw her with my luggage, the tears started again. They had returned my things. Just another reminder that it was all over.
"Paisley..." I cut her off and snatched the luggage from her hands. I closed my door quickly and shut it.
I muffled the sound of my cries with my pillow trying so hard to breathe through the heart wracking sobs. It was truly over.
I opened the box and saw my phone at the top of my clothes. I switched it on. I wiped my eyes and searched for Brayan's name. I sent countless messages begging him to let me explain myself and even tried to call but it wasn't connecting.
I had a strong urge to hurl my phone against the wall but I resisted. It was the only way I could communicate with Brayan.
I closed the box and climbed into bed with my phone in my hand and waited patiently for Brayan to reply to my messages.
