CHAPTER 55

I was surprised to see a familiar car parked in the same spot as it was earlier today. Garret was leaning on the car and waved me over.

“I thought you left” I said once the distance between us was covered.

Yes but I figured you’ll be needing a ride back so I returned”

“Thank you” I had not even thought about how I would return once I was done here.

“Let’s go” we both entered the car and he started the drive.

“Are you okay?” He asked again.

“I’m fine. Here take this” I pulled out the folded paper from the inner pocket of my cloth and handed it over to him.

“Please give this to him”

“I will” he dropped me off at Kamiko’s place and drove off.

“Paisley!! You gave me a scare” she screamed the moment she saw me.

“I’m sorry. I just had to take sometime off to clear my head”

“Sometime off? You had me worried. Your family was going crazy searching for you. They thought something happened to you”

I scoffed. “I have no family”

“What has gotten into you Paisley? You were getting better. You forgave them. Why are you doing this again”

“I just found out that they all knew Edel and Nevaeh have been dating but none of them bothered to say shit to me”

“What?”

“Paisley” we both heard from the door and I turned to face who it was. Garret had a choke hold on Coulter.

“I found him lurking around your house”

“That’s my brother” he instantly met him go and Coulter coughed violently.

“What the fuck man”

“Why the fuck were you lurking around my house” Kamiko asked angrily.

“I was worried about Paisley. You claimed you haven’t seen her for days but I didn’t believe that and I came to check. Turns out I was right”

“She wasn’t here”

“Stop lying..”

“Stop both of you. Thank you Garret but you’ll have to leave now”

He nodded. “Take care of yourself” his eyes shifted to the others for a second before he turned around and left. I made sure he left this time.

“Paisley. I’ve been so worried about you”

I crossed my arms and studied him.

“I’m sorry you found out that way. I was going to tell you about it but they stopped me. They were worried about your deteriorating health and felt it’ll only add to it and make you worse”

“That doesn’t even make any sense” Kamiko said from behind me.

“Just shut the fuck up. I’m trying to talk to my sister”

“In my house” the shouting was giving me a headache and I moved away from both of them and sat on the couch. They finally shut up and came to join me.

“When did you find out?” I asked curiously.

“The week you returned”

“She was acting off and I followed her. I saw them meeting up and I thought it was normal and maybe they were just talking about you but then she follows him home. I informed mama and papa and they were furious. She returned home the next day and they confronted her. She admitted to it but made them promise not to say anything about it”

“And they just stayed silent?” Kamiko asked and Coulter rolled his eyes.

“Like I said, they thought by keeping quiet they were protecting her but none of us knew about the pregnancy. We only found out about it after you did”

I nodded absentmindedly. They should have simply told me the truth. It wouldn’t hurt at all and it won’t make me feel like they were choosing to protect her over me.

Coulter and Kamiko were arguing again and I was starting to have another headache. Why were they shouting and acting like a married couple?

“Can you just stop” I rubbed my forehead.

“Why are you acting like this?”

“Nothing” Kamiko grumbled.

“Is there something going on between the both of you that I should no about?”

“No” they said simultaneously and I became even more confused that something was wrong. I eyed them both.

“Are you sure?”

“We fucked” Kamiko said and I chuckled loudly.

I knew there was a reason for all this bickering. They fucked the lust out of each other and realized that they hated themselves.

“Stop laughing” Coulter grumbled.

“I can’t believe this” I laughed even harder.

“I’m going” Coulter stood up abruptly and I could see from his face that he was uncomfortable.

“Don’t leave on my account. I should be the one leaving so you can have time to continue talking”

“Stop that Paisley” Kamiko frowned at me and I finally shut up.

“Don’t go Coulter” I said to him.

“No. I have something to do. I just wanted to see you and make sure you’re okay. I’ll probably drop by again later this evening”

I shook my head. “I won’t be around”

“You won’t?”

“Are you going somewhere again?” They asked at the same time.

“We are going on a short vacation”

“Short vacation? We?” Kamiko asked still confused and I rolled my eyes. She was slow sometimes.

“Yes we. You and I Kamiko. I need to get away from this town or I’ll lose my mind completely. I need a fresh start, some time to rejuvenate”

“Ohhh. When will you be back?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. Till whenever”

“As much as I want you to stay, this is the best thing for you. Just keep in touch and call often. You know I love you so much and I want you to be okay. I hate everything that has happened and I hate her even more for doing this to you”

“Don’t. Don’t hate her. I don’t. Hating her would do nothing for me. I want to start on a clean fresh slate and forget everything. You should too”

“I doubt I will but if it’s what is best for you then you should do it. Just know that I’ll always be here for you”

I hugged him tightly. “I love you Paisley”

“I love you too Coulter” we didn’t let go of each other for a long while and I felt truly satisfied knowing that he had my back.

When we pulled away, I noticed Kamiko had already left the living room.

“I’ll be on my way now” he kissed my cheeks.

“The both of you should probably have a conversation before our trip”

“There’s nothing to talk about. We don’t like each other like that and it was just sex”

“If you say so”

He stared at me for a while and then he left the house.

Kamiko came outside again with her phone.

“I’ve checked out a few places. Where exactly do you want to go?”

“Far away from here” she nodded and came to sit beside me so I could look at the pictures with her.

“When are we leaving?”

“Tonight”

“Tonight?” Her eyes were wide.

“Yes tonight” it has to be tonight. I wanted to leave before he woke up and read my letter.
