Chapter 23

***Serafina's POV***

The way he looks at me melts away the pain that he inflicted but I can't let myself get fooled by those gazes again.

He is lying Serafina. He wants you gone.

I have no idea why he is here risking his life but I can't trust him again. I can't trust his words again.

I pushed him away breaking off the hug. I saw pain cross his eyes as if it hurt him that I was pushing him away.

Why is he so good at this? Why is he so good at making me believe that he cares for me?

"If you are doing this out of pity or because you think that I am your responsibility just go back to the palace and let me die here. I don't need your pity King Calixto and don't think of me as your fucking responsibility,"

Tears continued to fall from my eyes like waterfalls and I could no longer stop it.

"Enough with this fucking drama!" the leader of the rouges shouted making me flinch.

King Calixto immediately hid me behind him protecting me from anyone who would try to attack.

"Get the woman and bring her to my room. I need to taste her before killing both of them,"

Fear crept into my system and I could feel my hands getting cold. King Calixto held me tightly having no plan of letting me go.

He threw a glance at me and gently squeezed my hand. "Don't be afraid I won't let anything happen to you,"

I vowed to myself that I would no longer trust him but I found myself holding onto his words. I found myself relying on him once again.

I stayed behind him while he faced the leader of the rouge who was so eager to take me.

"Come on King Calixto don't be selfish let me taste your Queen. Her scent was too addicting and I can't help but imagine how she will taste like,"

King Calixto let go of my hand. I saw his claws coming out and the way his shoulder moved up and down told me that he was enraged.

"Does your Queen taste good King Calixto?"

Like lightning, he attacked the leader of the rouge.

He let his claws dig into the neck of the leader of the rouge. He was too mad to even control himself.

"Let him go!" one of the rouges shouted ready to attack King Calixto from behind but the moment he got closer he was effortlessly thrown on the ground like a feather.

Another rouge stepped in and I thought he would attack King Calixto again but instead, he held me and dug his claws on my neck copying what King Calixto was doing to their leader.

"Kill him and I will kill your Queen, King Calixto,"

I saw how King Calixto's hold loosened while looking at me with his eyes filled with fear. He threw the leader of the rouge on the ground and focused all his attention on me.

"Let her go," he uttered rage laced in his tone but the rouge that was holding me just let out a sarcastic laugh and dug his claws into my neck even more making me whimper in pain.

My vision started to get blurry and I could feel tears falling from my eyes.

"Kneel King Calixto. Beg for your Queen's life,"

Without hesitation he kneeled on the floor something that I never saw him do before but while he was kneeling on the floor the leader of the rouge stood up and kicked him making him fall to the ground.

I tried to free myself from the hold of the rouge that was holding me to help King Calixto from being beaten up but I was held tighter.

"Fuck you asshole! I will fucking kill you!"

The leader of the rouge kept kicking King Calixto but he was taking every kick having no plan to fight back.

"Please stop! Don't hurt him, please! I will do everything you want," I pleaded while tears are streaming down my face.

When the leader of the rouge turned his head on me and looked at me directly in the eyes I felt my heart beating erratically.

He was about to walk towards me when King Calixto held his feet to stop him from taking a step.

"Just kill me and let her go. I will do everything you want just don't touch her,"

A demonic laughter echoed in the forest. The leader of the rouge kneeled in front of King Calixto whose face are now filled with wounds.

"Don't be impatient King Calixto. I will kill you but before that watch me how I devoured your Queen first,"

The leader of the rouge started walking towards me. I saw King Calixto trying to get up but two rouges pinned him down.

The moment the leader got closer I was thrown into his arm.

"Let's play a little game darling,"

He started sniffing my neck and that made me feel disgusted.

I wanted to push him away but I was too weak to even do that.

"Let her go!" King Calixto shouted making my head turn in his direction.

He was standing and the rouge that was holding him earlier was lying on the cold ground.

"Take a step and we will shoot you,"

The rouge that was holding me earlier uttered but King Calixto ignored his words and took a step forward and the moment he did that an arrow flew in his direction piercing his shoulder.

"King Calixto!" I shouted.

I saw pain cross his face but he took another step and another arrow was released into the air, hitting his other shoulder.

"Let me go!"

I tried to remove the hand that was holding me but I was held even tighter.

"King Calixto just stop. Just please stop!" I begged while tears continuously streamed down my face instead of listening to me he took another step and another arrow was released and this time it hit his chest making him fall to the ground.

"Let's see if that asshole can still survive. Those arrows were stained with wolfsbane. It was already flowing in his vein and in just a few minutes he was gone!" the leader of the rouge happily uttered.

I can feel rage filling my system.

I lift my head staring at the full moon above and for some unknown reason, I can feel a strong energy filling my veins.

My heart started beating fast and the strength that I had lost came back. My claws came out and using the strength coming from the moon I pushed the leader of the rouge that was holding me and his body ended up hitting the huge tree. The impact was too strong making the tree split into two.

Everyone looked at me with their eyes widened. I saw them taking a step back as I walked towards King Calixto who was lying on the ground...unconscious.

The rage that I was feeling doubled when I held him in his arms and felt his heartbeat getting weaker.

My breathing started to get heavy as I lift my head and roam my eyes around.

I saw fear in their eyes the moment my gaze landed on them.

I looked at the rouge that pierced an arrow to King Calixto's chest. I stared at him intently and for an unknown reason just by thinking of it I was able to lift him from the ground and throw him on a huge tree making his body crumpled.

I can no longer control myself. I shifted my head on the other rouge that shot King Calixto on his shoulder and lifted him from the ground suffocating him and when he turned pale I let his body fall on the cold ground.

I roamed my eyes again to find the other Rouge who shot King Calixto in the shoulder as well not letting anyone who hurt King Calixto get away.

"Run! Fucking run!" he shouted the moment my eyes landed on him. I want to kill them all but I don't have time to do that. I need to save King Calixto first.

When all the rouge was gone I tried to lift King Calixto from the ground but failed.

"Please wake up King Calixto,"

Tears streamed down my face and some ended up falling on his face. I pulled him closer to me hugging him tightly and buried my face in his neck.

"Please wake up! Please don't do this to me,"

My chest started to tighten from too much crying.

"Please wake up King Calixto,"

I was holding him too tightly and after a while, I could feel my strength leaving my body.

It feels like my strength is getting sucked from me.

My vision started to get blurry but I heard his voice.

"Serafina," he called me weakly.

I broke off the hug to look at him and a smile graced my lips when our gazes met.

He is awake.

He is alive.

"Y-You're alive," I weakly uttered but before I could even hear his response I lost my vision and everything became dark.
