Chapter 28
***Serafina's POV***
I felt soft rays of sun hitting my face and when I open my eyes I realized that it was already morning and I was alone in my room.
King Calixto was no longer here the only thing left was the wrinkled sheet where he lay last night.
I stretched my body and headed towards the bathroom to wash my face and make myself presentable before stepping outside my room.
The moment I opened the door I saw a young lady standing in front of my room as if she had been waiting for me.
A bright smile was plastered on her face, so I flashed an awkward smile, still unsure how to interact with anyone because I felt like everyone in this palace was judging me.
"Good morning Queen Serafina," she greeted me filled with energy.
"Good morning," I responded an awkward smile still plastered on my lips. "What's your name?"
I saw the smile on her face slowly fade. Her lively expression was now filled with worry and confusion.
"I thought it was just a rumor but you lost your memory, Queen Serafina? You forgot about me?" she asked and even held her chest as if she was in pain.
I looked at her apologetically and slowly nodded my head. "I forgot my recent memory after what happened so I can't remember my life in the palace. I am sorry,"
She looked at me with her eyes filled with pity. She reached for my hand and gently held it while looking at me directly in the eyes.
"Don't worry Queen Serafina I will help you create happy memories that you will treasure forever. Is there anything you want to do today?"
I tried to think of anything but all I want is to remember the life that I had in the palace before the incident happened.
"I want to recover my memories," I responded and I saw how her expression changed when I said that.
She looked away as if she was hiding something.
"Why? Is there something wrong? Did I do something embarrassing that I should forget? Did I do something wrong?"
She turned her head on me again and shook her head. "I think it will be better if you just create a new memory. Now that your relationship with King Calixto has become better I think it would be best if you just create new memories together and bury whatever happened in the past,"
Confusion filled me when those words slipped out of her lips. What does she mean by that? Do I have a bad relationship with King Calixto before?
"What do you mean about that? What's wrong with my relationship with King Calixto before?"
She bit her lower lip and I saw fear in her eyes. She looked at me apologetically and bowed her head.
"I am sorry Queen Serafina just forget about what I said. I was out of my mind and was not thinking straight," she apologetically uttered and bowed her head again before walking away.
I wanted to ask more questions but she already vanished leaving me dumbfounded.
"Why are you just standing here Serafina?"
I turned around and there I saw King Calixto standing in the hallway while looking at me intently.
I stared at his face trying to put the pieces together. The words that I heard from that young lady kept on playing inside my head while looking at King Calixto.
"Is something wrong Serafina?" he asked while looking at me directly in the eyes.
I wanted to voice out the question that had been bothering me but instead of doing that I smiled at him and shook my head.
"Did you have breakfast already?" I asked to change the topic.
He shook his head and smiled at me. "No. I was waiting for you," he sweetly uttered making me smile.
"Let's have breakfast together?"
Without hesitation, I nodded and clung my arms to his.
We walked towards the breakfast hall and after a few minutes of walking, we finally arrived.
I saw King Calixto's mother, Lady Ysobel at the dining table.
I smiled at her the moment our gazes met and she smiled back at me.
I walked towards her and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before walking on the other side of the table taking the seat across from her while King Calixto was sitting on the center end of the dining table.
"How are you feeling Queen Serafina? Do you still feel weak?"
I smiled at her and shook my head. "I feel fine Lady Ysobel. My body is slowly regaining its strength after taking a rest,"
She nodded and she looked pleased when she heard my answer.
"That's good. You should regain your strength. I don't want to pressure you Queen Serafina but you are already running out of time. The full moon will happen in a few weeks and by then you should have already conceived an heir for King Calixto,"
"Mom," King Calixto butted in looking at his mother intently as if telling her to stop.
"Don't worry Lady Ysobel I will fulfill my responsibility as King Calixto's Queen. I will conceive an heir before the full moon," I bravely uttered even though I had no idea if I could make that happen.
I am still filled with doubt and fear something hard to tame and keeps on bothering me but I guess I just need to put all those emotions aside and focus on bearing an heir for King Calixto.
"You don't have to force yourself, Serafina. Just focus on recovering first and forget about other matters,"
Lady Ysobel chuckled when her son said those words as if she found it ridiculous.
"You are becoming soft King Calixto. I also care for Queen Serafina's condition but she needs to conceive an heir to put an end to the rumor spreading around the Kingdom. We need to tell something good to our pack to make them forget about all the tragic things that happened,"
"But Mom, Serafina's body is still not ready to carry my heir," King Calixto insisted.
A sarcastic smile grace on Lady Ysobel's lips while looking at her son intently. "Is that really your reason Calixto or you just don't want Serafina to carry your heir because you want another woman to carry your bloodline?" she asked filled with sarcasm.
King Calixto fell silent and while looking at them it felt like they were communicating through their eyes using the secret language I didn't understand.
Are they hiding something from me?
Why does it feel like this palace is filled with dark secrets that I need to unfold?
