Chapter 27: In which she celebrates.

Nathan's P.O.V:
Something was definitely fishy about the whole day.
First, Savannah refused to come to work saying that she still had to bring some real clothes from her house along with a couple other necessities. Okay, I admit, the nightgowns were a bit revealing but that's the whole point! It's not supposed to stay on for the entire night.
Secondly, Tina kept disappearing a few times throughout the day. But that can just be my overactive imagination playing tricks on me. It was thanksgiving after all, and she's happily married and has family. I envy them. I wish I had someone to cook me thanksgiving dinner and celebrate with me. Ever since my entire family died, it's been so hard to celebrate this day without hearing mom's affectionate voice, dad's booming laughter and Ryan's stupid jokes. But who am I kidding? Savannah loves cooking, she's probably cooking up a storm right now, making sure we have enough to last for a month. She did order me to hand over Roan yesterday to go shopping, the results were the best chocolate cake I'd ever had...but not necessarily eaten from a plate.
Lastly, I narrowed my eyes at how slow Roan was driving tonight. Traffic was fairly normal for thanksgiving night, but he was driving at a snail's pace. It's been almost 45 minutes since we came out of the office and I should be home by now, except that we were still about 5 minutes away from home. His explanation had been that the car must be running low on brake oil. But how could that be when it was fine just this morning? And what was he doing all day to not have noticed such a major flaw?
"Sir, we've reached." Roan's voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I thanked him and got out.
Parties were in full blast on a lot of floors in my apartment since this entire complex was built for major businessmen. An empty feeling set in my chest as the lift door opened on the ninth floor and I found the place devoid of any decorations, sounds or smell, except for that of stink of a mosquito repellant. Which did seem a bit odd, but I shrugged it off. It could be someone’s turkey burning for all I cared.
"I guess there won't be anything special about today after all," I muttered to myself as I turned the lock and entered into the darkness of my living area...and turned on the lights.
"SURPRISE!"
Both my eyes and ears turned numb for a second; everything too overwhelming for my senses, and then I finally looked around me to see what was going on.
Several of my men and their wives/girlfriends; some of Savannah's friends and even Beth, Roan and Tina were here with their partners. Savannah was standing in front of everyone, in the rust pink dress that I had gotten her, looking like the angel that I pictured her as when I bought that dress; but most of all, it was the decoration and smell of thanksgiving that nearly brought me down to my knees.
"Come on," Savannah stepped towards me and then took my hand in hers as she led me to my room while everyone fell into merry conversations. "Here, I've got your clothes laid out. Go take a quick shower and change. Our guests are waiting."
I complied without any further ado but not before giving Savannah a sound kiss on those delicious lips that I plan to devour later tonight. When I was showered and ready in a rust pink shirt, a color similar to her dress, along with cream coloured jacket and pants, Savannah came up to me and fixed a platinum dialed watch on my hand. It was too expensive for her to afford, so I was about to ask her to return it when she answered my unspoken question.
"It's a hand-me-down. Belonged to my grandpapa. I thought you'd like it."
"It's wonderful, Savannah." I cupped her cheeks in my hands and kissed her forehead, any further would mean our guests would have to wait even longer. "I have something for you too. Turn around."
She did as told and I took out the pearl necklaces I got her today, white pearls with a pink stone pendant in the middle, and clasped it around her neck. She gasped as she looked into the mirror. My breath caught too, but for a totally different reason. I saw us in the mirror, together. And it was the most beautiful view of my life.
"Thank you for coming into my life again, Nate." She touched her hand to mine as I rested it on her shoulders.
"Thank you for turning this house into my home, Savannah."
With that, we were off to enjoy the party that my Savannah had planned for me. And just like I told her, I felt like I had finally come home.
