Chapter 40: In which she gets all that she ever wanted.
Epilogue
2 Years Later:
"Manager! Five more orders!"
"Bring in the list!" I said, tossing the ingredients in the huge wok in front of me. Did Brittney skip today? Damn that woman! I'm so-
"Dear God!"
The scream nearly had me flipping the pan over. I looked behind me to see a familiar redhead running towards me full speed.
"Drop that thing right now, young lady!" Nikki took the handle of the pan from me and handed it to a flustered looking Brittney. "Are you crazy? Look at the size of that thing! Good thing I saw Britt right in the middle of Central Road and gave her a lift."
Vibrant as ever, Nikki took my hand and pulled me out of the flaming hot kitchen and to my cabin. It was October, fall hadn't yet set in but the temperature outside felt quite chilly today. Or maybe the kitchen had turned into a furnace? Ugh! I need to start thinking about expanding it.
"What on Earth were you thinking!?" Nikki helped me sit down on the super comfy couch that I'd found delivered to my cabin about five months ago, courtesy of my overprotective elder twin brother. "Working in this condition! What if you got hurt? Or burnt? Or worse, what if th-"
"Nikki!" I snapped, exasperated at her panic. "I'm pregnant not paralyzed! Now calm down and sit with me." Ever since I got pregnant, everyone was treating me like I was made of glass. I couldn’t stand it any longer! If this baby didn’t get me an extra layer of fat then sitting around all day doing nothing sure did. Damn it! If I had to sit still even longer, I just might explode.
Sighing, Nikki plopped down on the couch near my feet. Giving her a glare, I picked up the wireless phone from the table beside the couch and dialed down to the bar. "Jamie, bring up two beers, one Martini and a glass of fresh apple juice."
"Who are the beers for?" Nikki asked curiously.
"You're here aren't you?" I looked at her pointedly, but continued when all I received was a blank stare. "How long do you think it'll take before Lyric follows in? And I'm very sure, Lyric's new bff just needs that as an excuse."
"Excuse for what?" Came a chorus of male voices, making Nikki and me burst out laughing.
"Come on in boys." Nikki called out just as the door opened to reveal three handsome, tall, broad shouldered men.
"Hey," I greeted Nathan as he swooped down to brush his lips against mine and sat down on the couch beside ours. Lyric sat close to Nikki while Samuel was left squashed between the two couples. The couches in my cabin were all arranged in a circular manner with a round glass table in the center. It was convenient that all the people sitting here would be able to see everyone's face.
Jamie, the bartender, came up at that moment and placed the drinks on the table, except he handed mine over. We resumed our conversation as soon as he was gone, and as usual, Samuel started complaining about being the only single guy in the room and how he needed to get a girlfriend soon. The only people that were missing were Tina and her husband who were on a much deserved vacation.
It's been two years since Vincent was locked behind bars and sentenced to lifelong imprisonment; two years since Nikki decided to remove life-support from her mother after almost twenty years of waiting. A lot had happened since then, Nathan and I'd gotten married a year ago and now we were expecting our first child; Nikki and Lyric were getting married in four months and Samuel, despite all his whining, had started dating but won't tell us who the lucky girl was. Call it twin-tuition, but I just knew he had a girl in his life.
And not to mention, all of us were best friends now. Nathan too has started hanging out with Lyric more often and that does give me some time alone from all the babysitting he does with me. Monday's are official Spaghetti Night's with not just Nathan and me but the entire gang coming over for dinner. It's safe to say that no one suffers from Monday blues anymore.
And the best thing that happened to me after all the chaos was the opening of my new restaurant, Blue Star. I'd bought the land that I'd initially chosen with the salary I'd saved and by selling my mother's house. That house had been special to me for so long, but some things I just had to let go. Mom would always be in my heart but I could no longer go back to Moorland after everything I had been through. Samuel had signed off the rights to that house to me so it was easier to sell, he'd even wanted to divide Vincent's properties into three parts but I'd refused straight out. I wanted nothing of that murderer, but Samuel had worked hard on that company and deserves to keep it. So now, not only are Nathan and Samuel business partners but also best friends.
Life couldn't be any more perfect. Here, sitting among my friends and family, I knew that I hadn't only gotten what I always wanted; I'd gotten more that I deserved. Or maybe…I had finally gotten everything that I deserved.
A tab on my shoulder made me turn to Nate, who was leaning close to my ear so only I could hear him. "What are you thinking?" He asked.
"Nothing." I smiled at him before adding, "just tomorrow's menu."
"Savannah, remember that day we went to Central Avenue? At the wishing fountain?" He asked.
"Of course!" How can I forget that day? It was one of the most special days of my life.
“Want to know what I wished for?” He asked, smiling that oh-so-handsome smile that transformed his face to devastatingly beautiful.
“But we aren’t supposed to tell others about our wishes!” I whined. “If we do that then the wishes won’t come true.”
Nathan’s smile only widened. “But mine already did.” With that, he brought my left hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to my wedding ring.
/////////////////
If there is some God out there that’ll really listen to my wish, then I just want to say: I want to have a future with Savannah.

I don’t know which God this fountain belongs to, but if anyone is listening, please make whatever Nathan wished for, come true. I want nothing for myself but for this.
