Conclusion of the Elders
"I don't see the Queen anywhere. What is this all about?" The prime minister was sitting right opposite Lord Lucas, who had a small sly smile on his face.
"You won't see her, prime Minister. She won't come."
The Prime minister cleared his throat, already forming clues in his mind about what was happening.
"What are you planning?"
He shrugged. "Nothing that won't benefit this kingdom and we, the council too."
Another Elder, Leon, spoke up. "I do hope you are not trying to make us go in a plan with you to take revenge against what happened in the court the other day."
Lord Lucas let out a big laugh. "Of course not. All I am saying is, the Queen has been adamant not to take a king and I think I know where this is coming from."
"Tell us," Lord Simon urged.
"Well...she is unwilling to let go of her complete and absolute power. Of course when she gets married, the king will naturally take charge as he is the man. This is what she is avoiding."
The prime minister laughed humorlessly. "Of course not. The Queen is the owner of the throne, and the king will merely be a figure head when they get married, unless if the queen herself decides to grant him power. She must have another reason for not wanting to get married."
"Whatever that reason is, Prime minister," lord Lucas said, eyeing the prime minister. "She doesn't want to get married and it won't help the kingdom in anyway. Before we know it, rebels will start accumulating as they view our female ruler as a weak opponentt amd start trying to attack us."
Lord Simon concurred, along with other members of the council. He was finally getting them on his side, and he cleared his throat again.
"We should force her to her married, is that it?" The prime minister asked.
"Gosh, Prime Minister. That word, force, is a bit too extreme, don't you think?"
He arranged his clothes and smiled. "I was thinking we should...persuade her."
"This meeting and that idea are both a very surefire way to waste our time. We have tried talking to her.."
"Oh, I don't intend on talking to her. I have an idea."
Hector's breath stopped midway as the Queen raised a brow. "Tell me. Who is Lana and why do you see her in me?"
He shook his head and bowed. "I..Your highness.."
"Is she your lady love? A girl you have been previously committed to?"
Hector shook his head. He wasn't sure if his relationship with Lana would spark a negative reaction from her, or if she would look at it as a brazen act. He just didn't see any possibility for a positive reaction, and he wasn't ready to risk it.
"Your highness, she is my childhood friend." It wasn't entirely a lie, he just decided to look into the past and state that.
"Sure."
She sat back down. "Have you heard anything from the council today?"
"What? Uhm..no. Should I check for you?"
"I have a bad feeling, like something is wrong."
"I am sorry." Hector said with a bow, and after handing her veil to her, gave her a bit of privacy.
"What idea?" The prime minister looked apprehensive, and Lord Lucas smiled.
"You just have to give me your permission. You don't have to do anything. I will work on all of it myself."
The other elders except the prime minister agreed unanimously, talking excitedly about how nice I would be if she chose one of their sons. The problem was, they couldn't see the bigger picture that Lord Lucas already had in mind.
"How do I look, Hector?" She asked as she entered from her room, her veil elegantly covering her face.
"How am I supposed to know that?" He murdered under his breath, but didn't look up.
"Why shouldnt you?"
"Sorry, your highness. I was not.."
"You know why I want to keep you by me? You are careless with your thoughts. It's fascinating to see someone so unguarded."
He nodded. "You look as graceful as always, your highness." He gave a slightly exaggerated bow, then looked up again.
"How do you know that?"
He could hardly resist the urge to roll his eyes, but before he or she could say another word, a servant ran to the Queen, bowing a mere two inches from her.
"What is it?"
"Your highness, something has happened."
"I knew it."
Hector looked at her. She sure did.
"There is a rumor going on in the palace currently."
"Who started it?"
"I don't know your highness, I.."
"I kept you as a surveillance and you don't even know? Very efficient."
She bowed. "I am sorry, your highness. It actually spread before I could get to the origin of it. I will try my best to check."
"You better. Or I will treat you like you started the rumor."
Hector's eyes widened as the servant trembled a bit.
"The rumor is...that...you and lord Adrian are in an armorous relationship. And that you are going to get married to him very soon."
"Lucas." The queen said, her teeth gritted and grounding against each other.
"Summon the council right now."
The servant nodded, the creases on her face ironing out as she let out a small sigh of relief with the bow, and left the Queen's presence.
She was seething, her rage obvious and over the top.
"You can carry on with your work, Hector."
He nodded enthusiastically, finally getting out of her presence.
"Yes, your highness. I will be back immediately you need me."
He turned and just as he was about to leave, she turned to him.
"Hector."
"Yes, your highness.
She put her hand under the veil and brought it up, her elegant eyes meeting his.
"What is the color of my eyes?"
He used to evade it, but now he had to make eye contact with her.
"It is a deep blue, your highness."
She nodded. "Then, keep that in mind."
She turned away and headed towards the court, her servants running after her.
