Chapter 16
MATTEO'S POV~
"Being dumb and choosing to stay silent are two different things."
The guys and I arrived at the location which our hacker had sent us. The place looked rundown and dark, it was an old abandoned warehouse.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" I asked Chase through the two-way radio.
"Yes boss, I used the GPS on his phone to track his location," Jamie responded.
" Okay, guys," I turned to Mikhail Andrew, and Tom who were with me.
"Mikhail, I need you to take the other door, Andrew, score the area for anything suspicious," I instructed looking around us. We were on the outskirts of the city, and the only things I could see were dark smoke from factories, old trucks, and bushes. The whole place looked empty and deserted asides from the very few trucks that passed by from time to time.
"Tom stayed close to me," we dispatched heading to our assigned positions. Tom opened the huge iron door, careful not to make any noise. I pulled out my loaded pistol from its holster. We moved noiselessly around every corner, the whole place looked empty and lifeless. Just when I was about to conclude this place was empty, I heard gunshots outside. We quickly made our way over to where the sounds were coming from.
Andrew was hiding behind a car as some rugged-looking men fired continuously in his direction. They didn't notice us and we used that to our attention, shooting down all of them except one. The last guy went down on his knees raising a hand in surrender. Tom rushed at him, knocked down his gun, and held him down when he tried running.
"Where's Jimmy?" I asked not wanting to waste any more time. He stuttered out some words I could barely understand.
"What's he saying?" I asked Tom who merely shrugged his shoulders in response, I glanced at Mikhail who joined us.
"He's saying he doesn't know anything that he was merely following others," Andrew interpreted making the three of us raise our heads in question as he stared at the man. Andrew is one of the guys who started with us. He had an innocent, charming look that could make anyone, whether male or female, fall to his knees. He knows how to flirt his way out of trouble. Even with his personality, we knew not to mess around with him unless he was in the mood.
"Seems like a dead end then," Tom whispered before knocking the man out.
"Not entirely," Mikhail stated with a sneaky smile before leading us back to the path we came from.
We came to a stop as he opened the door of what seemed to be an office. On a table inside the office lay the clues for us to use. There was a flight ticket booked for tomorrow, a signed contract laid beside it, and then some pictures and other important details. I smirked as I analyzed all of them knowing we weren't far from getting him.
"You can hide all you want now but I will definitely get you."
As soon as we arrived home, Jamie came out to welcome us. I handed over the suitcase to Mikhail giving him some instructions before heading towards the hallway that lead to the hospital.
"Hey," I greeted her as she looked out of the window at the corner. She glanced at me before looking back, not saying a word.
"I see you have taken care of the arm," I didn't know how I expected her to react after ordering, Tom to knock her out. I know she isn't happy with me but I couldn't bring myself to apologize. It's not that I did anything wrong, if anything she should be thanking me for putting her safety first, for now anyway.
I watched as she stepped away from the window going back to the bed. She crawled in, pulling the blankets over her head.
"What did the doctor say about your hand?" Silently. "Hope it's okay because I don't want anyone drawing us back," when she still didn't reply, I walked out of the room angrily slamming the door behind me.
I sat in the office unable to concentrate. Thoughts of, Hazel flooded my mind, I gritted my teeth in anger as I recall her childish act of silent treatment. I don't know why her actions are affecting me so much. It's not like I cared about her feeling like I already made clear that she's here only because of her involvement with Jimmy.
As soon as the mission is over, I will send her back to whatever petty lifestyle she was living.
