The dungeon or execution house
I have been smiling like a fool since after my conversation with the Director, I checked my phone for the tenth time and there it was, the money for my father’s surgery. The Director really fulfilled his promise and now it’s time to fulfil mine.
“I don’t know the reason why he is avoiding the press conference and honestly it’s none of my concern. What matters the most is the fact that I was able to find a solution which I pray will not backfire because my dad’s surgery depended on it and there’s no way am planning to give the advance back, at least not anytime soon.
I checked my wrist watch and saw that I still had an hour before the press conference. I quickly brought out my phone and called Sarah and gist her about the events that just transpired between the Director and me.
“Hmm! My friend is in love” Sarah said teasing me.
“Common! Stop it” I said blushing, but I had to admit that the Director is a very attractive man with his strong jawline, well defined abs and his eyes and broad shoulders, only a blind man would not find him attractive. It was a good thing that Sarah couldn’t see my face right now, if not there would be no end to the teasing.
“I have to go now, love you, bye.” I quickly hug up and went to join Mrs. Walker and the rest of the team to welcome the press as they started arriving in droves. Seeing more than 15 press vans pull up in front of the building made me start rethinking my decision.
“I thought it was a small affair with a few press” I whispered to Mrs. Walker.
“It was supposed to be a small affair but since Rose Bethmot is also gracing us with her presence and the media had gotten wind of it, just expect more media houses showing up vying for the best story and coverage for their newspapers tomorrow” she said excitedly, probably thinking of the benefits which such public visibility will bring to the hospital.
I was excited too, and from the happiness and giggling I’ve noticed around the hospital shows that I was not alone in my sentiment. The only ones I’ve seen that was not excited was Daniel and the Director. Who knows maybe they are not a fan of royalty, I thought to myself.
“Let me quickly call the vendors to see how the preparations for the gala night tomorrow is coming along” Mrs. said while placing a hand on my shoulders.
“Yes Ma’am” I had replied while cleaning my sweaty hands on the back of my trousers.
“This is not the time to be nervous” I gave myself a little pet talk and put on a brave front with a charming smile to hide my nervousness.
I was interrupted by the noise of 2 police cars and then a fleet of 10 SUV’s driving in with high security. Despite trying to act like nothing’s wrong, my hands were still sweaty and my heart was racing a mile by the seconds. I put a hand over my chest trying to calm my nervousness when the reality of what’s going on became clear to me.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost” I heard Bianca say from behind me in the hall way.
“What are you still doing here, inform Director Brock that the Crown Prince’s Fiancée has arrived” she said with both hands folded on her chest.
“What?” I asked shocked
“You haven’t heard the rumor that Rose Bethmot is going to be the future crown princess of our country? She asked me with a wicked grin on her face, as if she was privy to information which I wasn’t aware of.
I had no time to process what she said as I saw a figure stepping out of the car. She had this domineering aura around her. She was in the company of one of the people that interviewed me, the one that seemed impatient with me.
As she was ushered inside, I couldn’t help but admire her beauty. She was tall with blue eyes and her blond hair which was held in a bun accentuated the emerald choker on her neck with matching earrings. She was dressed in a beautiful red flare gown that stopped just below her knee. She exuded royalty indeed. The crown prince must be happy to have such a beautiful fiancée, I thought with a smile.
I was quickly brought back to reality by the flashes of the many cameras from the press as she was urshed inside the building. From hindsight I saw that Mrs. Walker had escorted the entourage to the media room. I quickly left Bianca in the hall way to join the rest of the staffs to start the press conference.
“How rude that a royal princess is being welcomed by less subordinate staffs instead of the Director himself” she said on realizing that my boss was not there to welcome her and show her around as was the norm.
Mrs. Walker and the rest of the staffs all turned their heads to look at me as if I was the one hiding or holding the Director hostage.
I quickly made my way to the royal entourage and curtsied.
“Your Highness, the Director apologizes for his absence for such important occasion and sent me to convey this letter to you as a way of apology” I said bowing my head slightly while handing her the letter.
She stretched forth her hand to collect the letter but her hand lingered a little longer as if she wanted to crush me. In my heart I was just thankful that she and I would not be crossing path as enemies.
After reading the letter she smiled and dismissed me.
Thankfully, the press conference was a success even without the director being present.
As she was being escorted out she stopped by for a while and looked at me, I quickly bowed my head and lowered my eyes not wanting to incur her wrath.
“What’s your name?” she asked me
“My name is Jess, your highness” I replied while still bowing my head.
“Tell your boss I’ve accepted his apology letter” she smirked and left.
I was relieved when she left and quickly packed up my things and headed back to my cubicle to continue my work.
“Sir, she said to inform you that she has accepted your apology letter” Jess reported on the success of her plan as soon as she got to Brock’s office.
“Thank you Jess, you can take the remaining day off” he said with a grateful smile on his face.
I was happy that I was able to kill two birds with one stone and at the same time see the Director’s enchanting smile.
“Good night sir”
Meanwhile Rose was determined to crush anything or anyone that will stand in the way of her childhood sweetheart. If Daniella did not stand a chance against her then who is this Jess that thinks she can stand in her way.
