The revelation

Back at the mountains where the royal family had fled to for their safety, when the enemies broke their defense at the border. They had been up all night since returning from the kingdom of Iduim trying to strategize and plan on their next course of action.

The king watched as his two most trusted advisers bickered about accepting the marriage proposal. Elder James was firmly against accepting such proposals as according to him, we will be getting the short end of the stick in the deal. He argued that this was the crown prince's life and that he should be allowed to take a bride of his choosing.

Thomas on the other hand seemed to be looking at the benefits of joining alliance with Iduim kingdom and how it will greatly help push the resistants’ back. He was of the opinion that, time was not on their side to consider other viable solutions.

“Your majesty, pardon me for having a contrary opinion from Thomas” interjected Elder James in the middle of Thomas giving his unsolicited opinions. Thomas was not happy with elder James interrupting him.

He and Elder James in the past few years had never seen eye to eye on certain issues. If the king had been discerning enough, he would’ve noticed the frosty relationship between these two men.

“The warrior king of Belmoth is taking undue advantage of this situation by proposing an alliance through marriage between his daughter and our crown prince. I believe before such proposal can be accepted, we must first consider the crown prince’s feelings as it is his life and marriage we are talking about” said elder James trying to make them see the death trap in the proposal.

Thomas huffed in annoyance and then turned his gaze to elder James “this is not a matter of choice. Olu Belmoth in his wisdom has given us the best alternative in this critical time. Obviously, we are outnumbered and our troops are stationed outside the palace on the far east of the country. It will take them about four days to be able to make it to the capital city” stated Thomas while dramatizing with his hands.

“Even though the king and his family are safe up on this mountains, what about the poor innocent subject that have nowhere to flee to? What will they say about the royal family that is supposed to protect them and their loved ones? He asked and this struck a nerve with the king as he felt guilty about fleeing the city.

It is just a matter of time before rumors begins to circulate about how the king and his family fled the palace while leaving behind the subjects whom he had sworn to protect. This will make our enemies advance further into the city seeing that it is vulnerable without protection” he stated.

Thomas was an orator and knew which cord to strike in order to get things rolling in his favour, especially when it came to battle of words with elder James. He did not like losing to him, and this made him press on in his quest to get the king to agree with the marriage proposal of Iduim’s king.

“I see nothing wrong with the proposal” chimed Queen Malti who had been listening to the conversation quietly while standing by the door. It was never her intention to eavesdrop on their conversation.

She had wanted to speak to the king about the outcome of their journey when she over held about the marriage proposal. She decided to give her two cents on the matter as it concerned her son, the crown prince.

"Rose is a beautiful girl and well mannered. We all have become familiar with her these past few months as we watch her friendship with Daniella blossom. I must add that she has all the necessary skills it takes to become a wonderful queen in the future” Queen Malti said as she walked to take a seat beside her husband.

“My queen, don’t be too presumptions” said the king. The matter is not a simple one, I also feel that it is wrong to talk about marriage proposal in the middle of a war as it will set the wrong notion” he stated.

Queen Malti was not happy with the King's comment but she brushed it off. Although she may not understand all the intricacies involved in politics, but she knew that this was the best option that they have at the moment and they were running out of time to consider other possible solutions. She thought.

Queen Malti did not see why the matter should be discussed extensively thereby causing a possible delay to the welfare of the people whose lives were currently at stake and at the mercy of their foes. If nothing is done immediately, the royal house may be in danger as the people will feel that they were abandoned and rebel against the king.

“Your majesty, I do not doubt your testimony about Lady Rose. But I feel that Olu Belmoth’s hands are not tied as he may want us to believe” said elder James.

“He is the paramount ruler and the great commander and warrior that is feared amongst his subjects, after Zaza, he is the second strongest kingdom in terms of military power and weapons. It is just hard for me to believe that he can do nothing to help Zaza at this critical time without a marriage alliance between the two kingdoms” he stated.

He couldn’t shake this dreadful feeling from off his chest that accepting this proposal will cause problems in the future. He also considered Brock as a son and was looking out for his best interest.

“Elder James, have we exhausted all our options” the king asked and elder James shook his head indicating that there were still options left unexplored but the question that was on everybody's mind was, was time on their side to consider other possible options? This was a question that remained unanswered.

“I’ll give you two days to come up with a better solution and if you cannot come up with an alternative within that time. I will have to accept the proposal from Olu Belmoth” he said.

If you think about it, having a marriage alliance with the second most powerful kingdom will give us an advantage as well. It will make us one of the strongest kingdoms. And the fact that Olu Belmoth’s heir is a girl means that my son will become the ruler of both lands by marriage” this thought pleased the king greatly that he forgot to take into consideration the feelings of his own son.
