Jess freaked out in surprise, she couldn’t believe that she was caught kissing her boss. She immediately used her hair to cover her face and kept her head low. Brock chuckled as he found her reaction cute.

“Sorry… sorry, I’ll just come back later. Please continue I’ll be in my car when you need me…Brock” a flushed Fred said as he quickly turned back heading towards his car.

Jess felt so embarrassed and wished to just disappear at that moment.

“Where’re you going? Brock called out to Fred who came to a halt and slowly turned his back with a tight lipped smile.

“Giving you some privacy” he smirked knowingly at Brock.

“Cut the crap and let’s get down to the main reason while you’re here in the first place” Brock said as he used his hand to comb his hair back exhaustion clearly showing on his face.

“You definitely owe me one Brock” Fred said as he walked towards him, Mia and Jess just a few feet behind.

“I know. Thanks for showing up for me today” Brock said as his eyes remained on Jess who was talking to her sister at the corner of the police station.

“Tread carefully Brock, you know that this new romance might not work” Fred said as he put a hand on his shoulder

“Thanks for your concern but you don’t have to worry about me nor my love life” Brock turned to face him and gave him a loop side smile.

“So, you kissed Jess!” Daniel said as he emerged from the dark looking tired with dark circles under his eyes.

Brock was startled, he had momentarily forgotten about his brother.

“Are you okay?” Brock asked feeling rather guilty for being occupied by only the thoughts of Jess. To him that showed weakness and not a good sign of a future leader. No matter the circumstances, you must keep an eye on every crisis so that you’re not ambushed suddenly, he remembered the words his instructor said to him during the early days of his military training.

Daniel looked at his brother, he knew he had good foresight, he was a better judge of character than him. Although, he was curious to know the person that could melt his brother’s icy heart after the war and the death of Daniella, he could see that he indeed made the right choice.

“It’s normal for a man to momentarily forget even his blood relations when in love, it has happened multiple times.So, don’t feel guilty” Daniel said as he patted his brother shoulders.

“I just hope she is ready for the storm that is ahead of her” Daniel said putting on a serious expression as he looked between his brother and to the two women who were in each other’s embrace. His eyes connected with Mia and he gave her a smile.

Mia whispered something to her sister and she seemed to have realized something as they both hastened their steps towards us.

Brock signed as he looked at his brother “I’m afraid I’ve to win her over faster so that I can prepare her for what lies ahead of her”

“Prepare me for what?” Jess asked as she got closer.

“Your destiny besides me” Brock said while looking at her face with a flirtatious smirk on his chiseled face.

Jess blushed furiously which did not escape Mia’s gaze. She looked at Daniel who winked at her and gave her a knowing look. It seems like everyone was on to a secret but only she was kept in the dark.

Daniel cleared his throat and it was then that Jess came back to her senses. She blushed the more before clearing her throat.

“Mr. Daniel, thank you for saving my sister. I’m sorry that my sister got you unintentionally involved in her fiasco” she said as she bowed her head slightly in appreciation.

“My mantra had always been mind your business. But, I’m glad that I did not follow that mantra today. Whatever happened today, I’m glad to have been of help to Mia who turned out to be your sister” Daniel said feeling satisfied that he had done a good deed.

Mia turned to Brock and also bowed her head slightly and thanked him for also extending his helping hand to Mia even though it was Daniel he had come to bail. But she was a bit surprised when she found out that Brock and Daniel were related by blood. She could never had imagined.

Brock paused for a while looked at Mia and then Jess before saying “even God would be angry with me if I turned my face away from helping a pretty angel and that too, the sister of one of my employee”

Jess blushed but Mia was captivated by Brock’s charm. She admired his face, his subtle dimple that appeared on his face when he smiled. His well-defined body appeared more upright in a tuxedo, his face which could make any woman heave a sign and his mysterious dignified gaze made Mia’s brow rise slightly after just a simple glance.

“Hi, thanks for your help” Mia stretched forth her hand to greet him.

Brock shook her hand with a polite smile.

“We should get going, our parents must be getting worried by now” Jess said as it was already past 9:00 PM.

“Let me drop you off, it is quite late and I doubt you’ll be able to find a taxi by this time”

Brock said as he adjusted his tuxedo and gestured with his hand towards his car. Jess wanted to object but Daniel chimed in and insisted that Brock drop them off while he’ll ride with Fred and send a chauffeur to pick up his car in the morning.

Jess and Mia both got into the back of the car while Brock sat in front alongside the driver. Jess would steal glances at Brock from time to time and when Brock’s eyes connected with hers, she would turn red like a child caught in the act of taking meat from the pot.

The road was free and there were at the porch yard of Jess house in twenty minutes. Jess thanked Brock once again for his generosity and apologized for any inconveniences.

“What happened to you girls, we were getting worried, their parents chorused at the same time. Jess looked closely and found a scowl on her dad’s face, he seemed to have aged in just short time. Jess did not want to worry their parents so she made up a story.

Judging from the bruise on Mia’s face and the exhaustion written on both their daughters face, they could tell Jess was lying. But they did not push the matter further.

“Go take a shower and rest, we’ll discuss about this tomorrow” their dad said. He had a lot on his mind, they were behind on their rent and the landlord just called him over the phone to vacate his property in two weeks since they were already behind on their rent.

He had pleaded for a week to settle all his outstanding rent but the landlord was not hearing any of it. He said that the property had been sold and as such they should vacate the premises or he calls the cop on him.

He was thinking of selling some of his equipment to finance some of the debt and settle the house rent but none seems to be interested in buying them at a reasonable price.

“Dad…dad are you okay?” Jess asked panicked

“Yes honey, why do you ask?” her dad asked masking his emotion. His daughters were so young and already a lot of burdens weighed on their shoulders.

“You’re bleeding” she said pointing at his nose with poignant horror.

Her dad dismissed her concerns with a wave of his hand and a light-hearted joke. Mia saw it too and thought it must have been caused by stress. She wondered why Jess was freaking out when their dad has said he was okay.

However, Jess knew of his father’s medical condition and was worried if his condition had gotten critical. But, she realized that freaking out was not going to solve the problem rather it was only alleviating it so she calmed her nerves.

“Dad, can I talk to you in private” she asked

“Tomorrow honey, I’m very tired today” her dad said.

“You better have a good explanation about what happened and not this story you just made up” their mom said as she looked between both of them.

Mia looked at Jess and from the look on their mom’s face, she was not as patient as their father. Mia finally told her mom everything that transpired leaving the details of how she was having feelings for her sister’s boss. Jess also chimed told her mom of her she found out Mia ad been arrested while leaving the most important detail of all, the kiss.

“Alright go to bed now, your father and I will handle it okay” she said as she too left to join her husband in their room.

“Arrrrh” their mom’s scream startled them and made both Jess and Mia rushed to their parent’s room, only to see their father lying in the pool of his own blood.
