Chapter 14

UNEDITED

Baylee missed a few days of work this past week. Her lack of energy lately has been serious. She has been spending most of her time sleeping or eating but this particular morning her appetite couldn't fight the nerves.

She was contemplating abortion. She made an appointment with a very private clinic later today, it felt like she was hiring a hitman. It was sickening. She literally felt queasy after her phone call but, She wasn't mother material. There wasn't one motherly bone in her body.

She was selfish and very aware of it. She didn't want to devote her time to anyone else and didn't want to touch dirty. Kids were dirty, drool, vomit, and poop central. She couldn't see herself with a kid on her hip and the little monster calling her mommy. No way.

She dresses casually white shorts and a t-shirt. Her tinted limo cab picked her up secretly at a location where paparazzi couldn't follow. Durning the smooth ride she gazed out the window. A little boy probably around the age of three caught her eyes. He was so cute, he looked like a little man. It made her think of her child. Would it be a boy? Would it look like Niko? He would be so handsome if he looked like his father. She gasps. What was she even thinking? She just gave it a face and gender.

It took a while to get to the clinic, but when they arrived she couldn't get out of the car. Her muscles froze. She didn't know if she could do this anymore.
The reality of what she was doing hit her. She would be lying down and letting someone kill her child. Killing the heart beating inside of her womb. She wasn't this selfish. She had a heart of her own somewhere in there beating. The lump in her throat rises and she spits out Niko's address to the driver. "Take me there please."

She had absolutely no plan but for some reason, she wanted to tell Niko about the baby. She didn't know how he would react but she couldn't do this alone.
In a flash, she was at the front desk in his building waiting while security called his apartment. The man picks up and presses a three-digit number. "Hello, sir you have a guest here to see you. Baylee is her name." He hangs up after a few seconds. "Go ahead." He gestures to the elevator.
More uneasiness overwhelmed her. What was he going to say? Is she doing the right thing?

It felt like a sense of reoccurrence like deja vu when she reached his door. She knocks lightly and to her surprise, it opened quickly but what was even more surprising was who opened it.

"What the.." She mumbles.

"Can I help you?" Melissa held the door partial open not letting her see inside. She was dressed in a nightgown like she had spent the night.

"No, you can't. I'm sorry... do you live here?"

"My boyfriend lives here, and he doesn't want to see you. I think you've embarrassed him and his family enough."

"Your boyfriend?"

Melissa nods. "We're officially together. I'm sorry if this hurts you. Niko told me you two were married. I think you're a great person somewhere in there, but what you did to Lola was trash."

Baylee looks to the ground. "If he doesn't want to speak to me. Why did he allow me up?"

"I allowed you up."

"Look." Baylee swallows. "I know he is upset with me but what I have."

"Just go." Niko comes behind Melissa. He opens the door fully and steps beside her. "I don't want to hear anything from you. I want nothing to do with you." He grinds his jaw in anger. "I don't even want to see your face." He pulls Melissa inside and shuts the door.

Had Baylee had any tears left she would have cried. Niko hates her and was now with someone else. She felt like she died a little on the inside.

The suckiest part of it all was that she deserved it. She deserved to feel this way and for Niko to never forgive her. What she did was unforgivable. Niko deserved a great girl that would treat him with respect and shower him with love. A girl like Melissa. Drama-free, understating, and patience Melissa who was the complete opposite of her.

She rushed out of the building trying to keep it together. When she got into her waiting car, her body was shaking, her throat dry and her heart shattered into a trillion pieces. She didn't know what to do.

Jacob turned himself in at the police station and was released the next day after posting bond. The media was having a frenzy with the recent Alden family drama and they just keep getting fed more and more.

Jacob didn't want to participate in it but in the heat of the moment, he didn't care. As a matter of fact, he still didn't care. While alone in his holding cell he had a lot of time to think and clearly. The end result of these thoughts was that he wanted his wife back. 😮

He realized that he wasn't over her. He wasn't even close to being able to actually letting her go. He was angry with her, but definitely not willing to let her go. And it wasn't the change in her or the house it was the happiness he felt waking up near her, and in his home with his children. His family. The change in her, however, made him realize that maybe if he spoke his needs, maybe they would still be happily married. He ruined everything but was determined now to fix it

Once out, he was picked up by a black SUV and asks to be taken to his old residence. It was kind of early in the AM, so the kids would all be in school at this time.

He unlocks the door using the key code and tries not to make any noise as he searches for Clair. She was in the bathroom when he finds her. She loved soaking in a hot bath when the kids were gone. Somethings didn't change.
He used to dream about joining her, that she would invite him. It never happened but didn't stop him from hoping.

When he hears the sound of her dripping wet body coming out of the tub he realizes that she was finished. Rather than she is surprised when she opened the door, he knocks. "Clair." He calls.

Her heart slams in fright. "Jacob?" She whispers. "Jacob?" She says louder.

"Yeah." He answers.

She hurriedly wraps herself with a fluffy white Cotton towel and opens the door. He was really there and in her room. "What are you doing here?"

She was soaked. The water cascading down her neck and chest, and dripping large drops from her hair to the smooth tile.
He had no shame when it came to looking at her. He scraped his focus along her body unapologetically then clears his throat. Knowing that she had nothing beneath her towel was like an overdose on viagra. "I need to talk to you...In-person."

Clarissa notices his attention on her body. He had a dangerous level of lust in his eyes that had her shaking in her towel. "Shoo then." She makes a hand gesture sending him away." Let me get dressed."

A slight smile appears on him as he notices a blush creeping up her cheeks. "I'm going." He starts backing away with his hands up. All the while he's going but, very bluntly taking in any angle he could get of her. His fingers itched to touch her again.

He goes into the family room. It was equipped with the entertainment center he set up, black letter couches, a never used pool table, and arcade games. He sits on the recliner and kicks his feet up. He closes his eyes and brings the image of Clair he just imprinted into his brain.

This time he didn't back out of the room. He imagines himself reaching out and caressing her check, gliding his thumb along her slippery wet neck column and whispering. "I want to come home."

Her eyes light up. She laces her fingers around his neck and replies. "I was hoping you would say that. We've missed you."

"Why are you here? The real Clarissa brings him back to actuality. Now dressed in a pink rob and streaming mad.

"I wanna come home." He just comes out with it.

Her heart skips a beat. "What?" She was thrown off course for sure. "What did you say?"

"I miss you." He stands and pushes his hands into his pockets. That meant he was making himself vulnerable. "I miss the kids and our life together."

He was kind of telling her, and not asking or apologizing. She was a little upset about it. "Is this a joke?"

"What? Of course not. Clair I"

"Stop" both her hands fly up. "What do you think I have no respect for myself?"

"What? No...."

One of her brows quirks up. "Pathetic then?"

"None of those things. Listen..."

"Leave." She orders. "You arrogant asshole."

He touches his chest as if to ask her if she was referring to him.

"Yes, you." Her fist tightens.

He chuckles. "Clair, baby...

"Don't call me that."

"Why?" He steps closer and one of his hands come out of his pocket.

"You know why Jacob. You lost that right." She steps back. "I just want you to leave. The kids are not here so there is absolutely no reason for you to be here." She grabs his hand and begins pulling him to the front door. Once there, she opens it, looks at him seriously, and gestures him out. "It's over. Please don't contact me unless it's about one of the children."
