Fated Bond

“Your response to her is not favorable,” Phyllis urged on, probably not caring if I replied to her.

“How do you two expect me to become the Leader to people of a place I do not properly know? Moreover, I am not even sure if she is telling the truth. She murdered my Father for the Alpha’s selfish gain and that is all I know.” I blurted. I just needed to find my way out of this mess.

“Well in case you do not know, you have no choice. Have you forgotten your brothers still need to be free? The naming is tomorrow. Say no more about this,” Phyllis concluded as she leaned out of the table, dropped my sword, and headed to the door.

However, she was right. How could I have forgotten that she was still there to come at me with her threats? Now I have realized how Lucerne felt when he had to take up Lordship of the shore. It was indeed not easy to make tough decisions.

“Oh…” Phyllis paused just as she was about to open the door. “Breakfast is ready, get your ass up and come down to the dining hall,” she instructed before finally finding her way out of the room.

I sensed a feeling. Someone was coming. Actually, my Mate was coming.

She silently walked in like a cat, curtsying and then moving over to the wardrobe. I flicked my eyes to her feet because how can a living being walk this smoothly without a single sound made from her feet? Anyhow, this time, I had the urge to speak with her.

“Elspeth,” I called fondly, getting her attention. She turned around to face me and curtsied again. I nodded, acknowledging her obeisance as I uncrossed my legs and got out of bed, moving to the study table.

I took up my sword and leaned on the table before unsheathing the steel and peering at the sharp, light reflected blade. I turned my attention to Elspeth and I noted that she never raised her head to look at me the whole time.

Her head remained bowed and her fingers wriggled before her thighs where she crossed them. I did not want her to feel this way. I did not want her to exude an aura of anxiousness around me. Therefore, I had to find a way to lighten the heavy ambience in the room.

“Your birth name is Elspeth?” I began after racking my brain for what to say. I wanted to know her better, but I had no clue where to begin.

She still did not look up. “Elspeth MacDill, my Lord.”

Perfect! “Did you grow up in the tower?” I asked again, reaching my hands behind me to drop the sword. I caught Elspeth peek at me. Then when she noticed that I had my eyes on her, she quickly looked down to elude my gaze. She shook her head at my question.

“I lost my mother at a very tender age. My Father however took care of me until I turned a decade and seven years, but I lost him then, and since I had been the maid of Ace until you came,” she replied fluently, slowly pacing her words. Her accent showed her elegance in its tone, which made me believe that this girl indeed had a perfect home bringing.

I would have just cut the chase and dropped the bombshell. I would. Nonetheless, I did not want to make the whole scene look awkward. I could just be more friendly with her until she was ready to hear what I would say― if she does not already know. Not that I had a strong feeling for her though, or as if I was ready to Mate anyone, I just wanted to have a clean, doting relationship with her until I was probably ready.

“I was sent to get you ready for breakfast, my Lord,” Elspeth saved the moment just when I was scouring my brain for the ideal way to dismiss her. I nodded, aware of what she meant. I spread my arms wide as a gesture for her to go on with undressing me. She came forward, still looking down.

The handmaid tugged my pajama shirt off through my head and slid the pants down my legs. Not looking at me, she folded the pajamas neatly and placed them in the wardrobe, then brought out another newly washed towel from the wardrobe and tied it around my waist, later giving me the space to find myself in the bathroom.

In the bathroom, I stood in front of the mirror and stared back at my reflection. To myself, I did not physically look weak. I mean, with all the muscles I had, coupled with my hard and contoured facial look, it was not possible that I showed weakness as others thought of me at one look. Nonetheless, I sighed, stripped myself of my shorts and got into the bath. Elspeth came in seconds later.

She slowly neared the bath, taking up the sponge and crouching to bathe me. Just like last time, she was so gentle with my skin to the point that I felt the urge to sleep. I faced her when I noted that she washed my skin ardently. She had a lovely smile crossing her lips as the mildness of her features became more exposed.

Abruptly, her eyes rolled to lock with mine, gazing at me beneath a pair of scarce, black brows. This time, they did not leave mine. It seemed like they enjoyed the view of my hypnotizing features, but I could tell what was going through Elspeth’s mind.

Just when I thought she was going to let our lips make contact, Elspeth leaned in to me, drawing closer as I flicked my eyes between her juicy lips and her ocean orbs. I wanted to stop her, but it seemed something deep within me so desperate to copulate. It kept pushing me, driving me…

I had a fervid spot for Elspeth. However, it did not seem like I loved her. And yes, aside history and mythology books, I have also had my share of steamy and romance volumes, so I was able to know I had no deeper feelings for this woman despite her being my Mate, and despite my body wanting her so badly.

            Overall, Elspeth kissed me.
