WAYNE’S POV
I had made a decision. There was no going back.
“Repeat after me, I swear by the Alpha’s cold-blooded body before me…” was Deveron’s shady voice, jolting me back to reality, “…that I will not betray the fire-pall werewolves pack.”
“I swear by the Alpha’s cold-blooded body before me, that I will not betray the fire-pall werewolves pack,” my dull response came. I looked up at the crowd when I heard the low murmuring coming from them. I felt the urge to sigh. Were these creatures going to resent me for eternity? This was an initiation for Moon goddess’ sake!
“Drink. Now.” I hurriedly brought the rim of the cup to my mouth and guzzled down its content. My face scrunched up as the sour taste spread through my mouth and I gagged. It came slowly and almost unnoticeable at first that I did not realize when the sharp pain struck me in the head. I screamed before two strong hands held onto my arms, but they were not so powerful, I would have been pulling them to the floor with me.
The pain spread to my chest and then to my intestines, it did not leave out my spine and that moment I felt all the bones in my body breaking and fixing itself. I shut my eyes, as it felt like I could give out any moment. My knees knocked and I got on them, even the hands could not hold me any longer.
I wanted this stinging to stop, but it only persisted with the number of wishes I made. I saw the colors swirling in my head and I began to imagine what it felt to die. Was it just this way; is this how I would end the so-called legacy?
Despite the pain, I felt a hand touch my head, and then, “By the authority bestowed upon me, I hereby name you Alpha of the Fire-pall Pack,” was Deveron’s declaration before I lost consciousness.

The intention was not clear, yet I found myself enthralled by it.
It was a cave, always a cave. However, rather than the dark entrance which I constantly dreamt about, it was a spacious layer with pebbled floor, vines laced on the rough, cobwebbed walls and a stone platter fixed directly before me.
My eyes were riveted on the filthy surface of this platter that seemed to inculcate a feeling of dread in me. Something about it was not right and as much as I tried to pull my eyes away, the Stygian potency that hovered about would not let me. I pulled my fingers to fists as vague voices began to fill my ears; they were shrieks mixed with the wailing of a male and what sounded more like a chant to me.
Nonetheless, this was quickly disrupted as the gale-force came in spontaneously, infuriating the dust that once settled on the floor and causing them to invade me. I closed my eyes from the unforeseen occurrence and when they opened, it was to view the flowery, crisscross design of my room’s polished ceiling.
I heard the furious pitter-patter of heavy rain upon the rooftop as I reached down to pull the duvet over my body in a bid to relieve the cold, which still seemed to persist.
I felt the need not to think much about the dream I had just had. After all, dreams do come and they could mean something or nothing. I trailed my eyes to the hearth to realize the fire had gone way down, I was just wondering why the chill in the room seemed as if I was directly under the rain.
I slid my legs out of the bed and strode to the fireplace. Surprisingly, I felt too full of health as I knocked the woods together to elicit the flame. I then went ahead to light the candles since the room seemed to be too dim.
My feet took me to the window with the intention to watch the rain, though I could not see past the haze that shaded the glasses. A sigh escaped my lips as I wondered how long I had slept, and then the memories of the events before began to flash in -- how I was initiated into the pack.
I scrunched up my face when the thoughts of the pain I had gone through made their way into my mind. I still do not think I will live past that pain; I would only end up wincing whenever I recall it, as it was too severe. Thankfully, I was more than fine now.
“Al... Alpha,” tuned a male voice in my head, I did not know where it came from. I panicked as I frantically turned away from the window, my eyes immediately fixing to the door, as I expected a personality to come in. However, none came. “Can you hear me, Alpha?”
“Who?” I asked spontaneously, not sure if this speaker got the right person. Nonetheless, I heard a chuckle on the other side. Gosh, was I going crazy?
“This is Sentry Flynn. Do you prefer lunch in private or at the hall?” The voice sounded humorous, yet I could not help but lace a familiarity with the name. ‘Flynn’ rang in my head and indeed, I did not have a short memory to have not recognized that Flynn was the green-eyed sentinel, unless another also bears the name.
I kicked my feet to walk towards the door and when I opened it, I found no one there. “Are you playing some jokes with me, where are you speaking from?” I seemed to raise my voice despite myself. The voice on the other side remained quiet for a while, but I could hear the chortle very clearly.
“I am speaking through the pack link, Alpha Kor.”
“I am no damned Alpha, refrain from calling me such!”
“Tch, have you forgotten so soon?” The hilarity was obvious. “You were named an Alpha a few hours ago.” I was?
My lips fell apart as I tried to recollect such and it was obviously true. It was something that happened exactly when I experienced that heart-wrenching pain. I was definitely not used to the title yet and I hoped that I would be accustomed to it sooner.
I crossed over the doorsill and found myself walking along the hallway after shutting my door close. “So how does this pack link thingy work?” I asked to be informed because this seemed too new to me and I had never read of it anywhere.
Flynn hummed, “I have no idea of how to say it in a plain language. Could you just speak with Ace? She will explain better.”
I sighed, “I swear that girl might be terrible at clarifications.”
“Mind if I tell her?” there was a low snicker on the other side and my brows puckered.
“Do not be mischievous. You are a wolf, a sentinel at that. You should be more cognizant.”
“Does not sound like the man whom I was made to believe you were,” Flynn whispered.
“What does that mean?” As I descended the stairs, a number of maidens approached from before and I was forced to tighten my lips while I spoke. However, talking to oneself seemed normal, as the women only expressed their obeisance and walked past me without qualms, the strange glances of before also evaded me.
“Means nothing,” Flynn’s voice came. “Anyways, the link enables you to speak to anyone within the pack without having to go a distance to meet them. Gratefully, when I become your Beta we will converse more often.”
“There was a Beta, if I am not mistaken.”
Flynn sighed. “Aye. My brother. Too bad he had to go on an impromptu mission― so was I told.”
I recalled the blunt-looking Wolf, who walked alongside Flynn the day I bumped in on them. Though they did not have any facial similarities, still could they be brothers? “Your brother?” I asked anyway.
Another low snicker came from the other side, “You seem to have a short memory, do you not?” Flynn asked between his titters. I shrugged in spite of the fact that he did not see me do so. “Forrest is his name, the one with the stygian-shaded eyes.”
“Oh,” I simply mouthed. What I originally had in mind was that Phyllis would act as a Beta since she always had her eyes on me. There was no way I could escape that girl and speaking of which, she was just standing right at the dining hall doorway, a steel dart twirled her hand as she examined it. I approached and stood before her while she looked up at me.
“I have been waiting for you,” she remarked, immediately turning into the hall.
We had lunch already laid out when I arrived at the table. The witch, Deveron, sat in the same position as before and I decided to take the seat opposite her, leaving the Alpha’s chair vacant.
She smiled at me. “How do you feel, Alpha Wayne?” she asked, the title yet sounded strange to my ears. I simply nodded at her question before Phyllis came forward to sit beside me.
While the senior witch ate calmly, Phyllis nudged my arm and inclined her head to me. “You should eat quicker than usual, we have no much time on our side,” she whispered and I creased my brows.
“Maybe it is time you relieve me on the spell already, have I not done all you asked?” I deadpanned instead. Phyllis moved away without replying to my question.
