Fated Mates

PHYLLIS’ POV

I watched as the witch healer stooped to round off the last step of changing the bandages on Mother’s unhealed injury. My eyes were also fixated on her when she rose and turned to me, her countenance sullen. I folded my arms and cocked my head to the side, “What is it?”

The witch healer shook her head, coming to the table, which I leaned on, to grab the hand towel. “I am so sorry, Ace, but due to the Oak oath taken by witches before the merge, wounds created by a Wolf have been immune to our magic and also cannot heal quickly,” the witch said as she wiped her hands with the towel.

“So what are you intending to say, the wound cannot heal for a long time?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer. The witch nodded a reply.

“It is deep, but not so severe. It will hopefully heal within seven days.” I nodded my head continually as I waved my hand as a dismissing gesture to the witch. She turned around to leave and my eyes flicked to where Mother sat on her bed.

Her eyes were probably counting the number of strokes on the lush tiles, but when I turned to her, she looked up at me.

“Why did you engage him in a fight when you knew you could not fight off? If I did not interrupt, he would have done you much more harm than this.”

Mother intertwined her fingers as she gave her answer, “I thought I could handle him, not until my magic refused to work when I was at his mercy. Besides, he was too proud. He kept speaking about naming him an Alpha too soon and when I told him about the Alpha’s son, he suddenly flared and threw fits. Next thing he was on my throat.”

I sighed and leaned out of the table, going over to the lampstand beside Mother’s bed to take hold of the cup of herbs that stood there ignored since. I handed the cup to her and stooped to take a better look at her neck as she drank the cup’s content. The wound on her neck seemed to be continually bleeding to the point of already beginning to stain the new bandage.

“Mother, is it really necessary to keep Forrest captive? He is the most powerful amongst the wolves in the Fire-pall pack and it is only right that he remains healthy,” I complained to Mother as I stood to my full height. She cautiously brought the cup down and swirled the hot herbal content of it slowly.

“You see, that is the exact reason I had him immobilized. He is powerful and I fear that he would counter our plan if we do not subject him to us.”

“Huh?” Mother looked up at me, the look on her face giving out the precise explanation of uncertainty.

“You know the Alpha’s last wish, right? He wants his son to be the next Alpha, so who am I not to make that happen, why should his Beta then want to go against the Alpha’s request?”.

            I sighed, “But—”

“Do not worry, my dear,” Mother cut in, handing the cup back to me. I leaned down and received it with my two hands, then placed it back on the bedside table. “I would not hurt the Beta; I will not do anything to destabilize his health. Thus, you do not have to worry about him. He would be just fine after freedom,” she assured and I found myself clasping my palms before my face and rendering an obeisance to her. “Fiona is guarding the back of the Tower. It is best that you switch places, so you can be able to watch over the Alpha’s son.”

“Yes, mother,” I bowed again and made my way out of Mother’s chamber, padding down the back staircase and later finding myself at the back of the Tower. It was already two hours past midnight and thankfully, after five more hours it would be time for the initiation of the new wolf into the pack.

I arrived at the Fir tree only to realize that the people I had left there were no more. I was about walking out to search for them when I came across Flynn, who anxiously walked along the dappled path.

When he reached me, I could see the look of worry that spread across his face and at that instant, I needed no one to tell me the reason he was at the back of the castle at that time of the night.

“Ace!” he called as he drew closer, “Have you seen my brother?”

I stiffened. “He left the Waterfalls,” I simply replied, hoping Flynn would take that as a satisfactory rejoinder. However, I only realized I was wrong to hope when confusion appeared on his face. “The Alpha sent him on a mission. He would not be back anytime soon.”

“Really, and he missed to tell me?” Flynn queried and I only had to shrug. I was not comfortable with Mother’s decision to restrain Forrest’s freedom, nor was I going to sell myself out. I leaned on the tree, hoping to change the topic and then escape the inquisitive gaze of the Wolf before me. “Have you seen Fiona?”

“Aye,” Flynn pointed to the direction of the flowers, which had their silhouettes lying on the moon-casted field. “I saw her go that way.”

“Hmm,” I nodded and walked past him, headed towards the field. I twirled the sword in my hand as I ambled towards Fiona who I now saw standing behind one of the shady flowers, which was just some paces before the field.

Apparently, I caught her staring rivetedly at the direction before her, but I cared less of that as I made my way to her. I stood beside her, aware that she had fully noticed my presence, yet acted as if she did not. “You are called back, Fiona,” I told her, subconsciously turning to where she glued her gaze on.

I saw two figures lying far ahead on the field. With my super sight, I was able to discern that the two creatures made out under the watch of the moon and it took me no time to recognize who they were.

The very first of them was Elspeth who stranded the crotch of the Alpha’s son between her legs, rocking him in a way I never thought a naïve-looking girl could as their pace increased.

It seemed I was too late for the show because it was only at that time that I saw them stiffen in the peak pleasure that was about to hit them, the wolf’s body shooting up from the ground to wrap around the maid and roll her over a couple of times. Her scream and his grunts did not also fail to reach my notice, sounding in my ears with a quivering tempo as they rode themselves through their orgasm.

I turned to Fiona, her eyes were intense and clouded with the need for mind-blowing ecstasy and knowing the Firne, she could not wait to grab another malleable male and render him helpless under her mercy. “How long have you been watching them?” I asked involuntarily.

Fiona looked away from the couple, her gaze lingering for quite a long time on me before she huffed and walked away, leaving me without a response, not as if I cared about it. I turned my eyes back to the intoxicating scene before me, but the show was sadly over.

I saw the handmaid place her head on the body of the exhausted wolf and within a second, I heard their heartbeats slowly race down to a steady pace. With this seen, it did not take me much thought to realize that those two could be fated mates.
