♥ Chapter 71♥
Alessio Vecchio.
As soon as I left the room, my expression turned to an implacable ice. I headed towards the doctor, who was talking to Eric.
'' Can she be transferred to my hospital now? '' I asked coldly. The intensity of my gaze made the doctor take a step back, scared.
'' Yes, it's possible. '' He spluttered, his nervousness evident as he tried to maintain control.
'' So do what is necessary. Prepare her, redress the wound, and give her and the baby a complete check-up. I want to make sure everything is perfect before we head back to Portevecchio. '' I ordered with a coldness that seemed to freeze the surrounding environment. The doctor, visibly intimidated, nodded quickly.
'' I will arrange this immediately. Excuse me. '' He said before leaving, leaving me alone with Eric.
'' Stay calm, Alessio. '' Eric asked in a soft voice, trying to calm me down.
I couldn't contain the look I shot at him—cold and penetrating.
'' I won't stay calm. I will only calm down when I see you free from pain. And where is that bastard, Salvatore? ''The coldness in my voice made every word sound like a deadly warning.
Eric sighed at my coldness.
'' Saulo and Cezar went ahead. They thought it'd be best to take him back to Portevecchio and leave him in the cellar, waiting for you.
A cruel smile formed on my lips, a smile so macabre it made Eric flinch. The coldness in my eyes was palpable.
'' He messed with my queen, almost killed her, and almost killed our son too. He will have the most special treatment I can offer. Have Dante call Saulo and instruct him to take care of him with the utmost care. Give him food and water, and treat him like an honored guest. '' My voice was filled with ruthless determination, and Eric had no choice but to agree.
'' Okay, I'll let Dante know. '' Eric said, his fear almost tangible.
'' I will return to my queen. Tell Dante to call Daniel and get the helicopter here immediately. '' I ordered with a coldness that left no room for discussion.
I returned to the room, anger still boiling inside me. I need to get rid of that bastard Salvatore as quickly as possible, but this isn't the right time. Now, my focus needs to be my family.
I observe Isabella sleeping peacefully, and I approach with light steps, so as not to wake her. I touched her face with my fingertips, the anger still pulsing inside me, knowing that she was hurt and that I almost lost her. Guilt weighs heavily on me for failing to protect her. How can I call myself a king if I can't protect my queen and our son?
I look down at his belly, where the wound is still visible. Just remembering the scene makes my heart hurt. Seeing her unconscious, so vulnerable and lifeless, moved me deeply. The feeling of helplessness, of not being able to do anything to help, broke me. Desperation consumed me terribly.
I raise my hand to her belly, feeling the softness of her body. Knowing that my son is in there, growing up and being protected by his mother, calms my anger a little. I feel a fierce desire to make sure they are safe and that nothing can threaten them anymore.
'' I'm sorry, my son. '' I mutter to myself, my voice filled with regret. ''Due to my jealousy, you and your mother were put in danger. I don't deserve the title of king if I can't protect my queen from danger.
I will do everything in my power to make sure they are safe. The only thing I can do to redeem my failure is to kill Salvatore for putting his hands where they shouldn't be.
I snapped out of my thoughts when the door opened abruptly. The medical team entered with meticulous efficiency, a sign that the time for transfer was approaching.
'' We will now take you for exams and prepare you properly for the transfer. '' The doctor spoke in a low tone, his fear of provoking me was clear.
I looked at him without much patience.
'' I will accompany you to the exam session. '' I say firmly, showing that my order cannot be questioned.
The doctor just nodded, without question, and signaled the team to start the process. They began to move Isabella carefully so as not to disturb her. The team was prepared to ensure the transfer was as safe and comfortable as possible.
First, the medical team began a detailed physical examination. They placed a heart monitor next to the bed to monitor her heartbeat and oxygenation. The nurse adjusted the monitor, and the device began to emit a steady, soothing rhythm.
They then performed an ultrasound to check the status of the embryo and Isabella's general health. The ultrasound screen showed a gestational sac, and inside it, the embryo was beginning to form. It was a small pulsating point, still in its early stages of development. The organs and systems were beginning to form, but the embryo was still very small and did not have more defined characteristics.
As I watched the screen, I felt a mixture of relief. Seeing my son's early heartbeat, although small, was a sign that he was alive and developing, even if he was still just an embryo.
The next step was cleaning and treating the wound on Isabella's waist. The team began by removing the old bandages with extreme care, and the doctor began cleaning the wound with antiseptic solutions. The procedure was done meticulously to ensure the area was disinfected and prepared for new dressings. They applied a healing ointment and a new bandage, fixing it with precision.
Meanwhile, they performed a series of rapid laboratory tests. They took blood samples to analyze the presence of any infection and ensure that hemoglobin levels and other vital indicators were stable. The test results were quickly analyzed, and it was confirmed that Isabella was recovering.
Finally, the team prepared a comfortable mobile bed for the transfer. The doctor ensured that all necessary measures were taken to protect the wound during transport. They adjusted the pillows and covered Isabella with a clean, soft sheet.
While all this was happening, I remained to the side, my gaze was fixed on Isabella, watching her every movement with intensity. With the exams completed and Isabella ready for transfer, the doctor approached.
'' Everything is ready to take her. The transfer will be carried out with all necessary care.
'' Right. '' I replied, keeping my gaze steady. From afar, I saw Dante approaching.
'' My lord, Daniel, has already arrived. He's on the terrace, waiting to take them. ''Informed quickly.
'' Very good. Take the rest of the men and return to Portevecchio. I'll be moving forward. Tell Taylor to be waiting for us. I want the best team to take care of my wife. ''I ordered with a cold precision. Dante nodded.
'' Yes, my lord. Have a good trip. '' He said before walking away. I was about to follow the team when the doctor called me.
'' Ah, but one thing, sir. '' He looked hesitant, his hands shaking slightly.
'' Say. '' I replied, keeping the coldness in my voice.
'' As the patient's injury is recent, she is sedated so as not to feel pain during the trip. '' explained the doctor, with a worried look.
'' He did no more than his obligation. ''I retorted.
I followed them down the corridor. The moment we went up to the terrace, I saw the helicopter, and it was a relief to know that we were leaving this hell of a place. The helicopter was positioned for a quick takeoff. The medical team began preparing Isabella for the flight, while I watched her every movement.
'' Place it carefully. ''Instruct.
The transfer process was done with precision. Once she was settled in the helicopter, I climbed aboard, not moving away from her for a second. When we finally got up from the terrace and the helicopter began to gain altitude, I looked out the window and saw the city moving away. The only thing that mattered now was the well-being of Isabella and our son.
The trip was marked by tense silence, every minute seemed like an eternity. Salvatore's fate and my own anger took a backseat, while the sole focus was ensuring that upon arrival in Portevecchio, my family received the best care possible.
I don't know how many hours have passed; I just couldn't take my eyes off her, even for a moment. Every detail of her—every breath, every movement—was an anchor for my sanity.
As soon as she's discharged, I'm going to step away from mob duties for a bit. I'll leave Dante and Saulo to take care of everything. My priority now is Isabella.
When we finally landed in Portevecchio, the sight of the hospital brought me tremendous relief. Being back home, in familiar surroundings, made me feel better. Taylor's team was already prepared to welcome us, and I knew that I could finally ensure that Isabella and our son were in good hands.
