A challenge

Moments later, Morgan sat quietly in the passenger seat of Alex’s car, her eyes fixed on the blur of the city passing by. The early morning light cast a soft glow over the streets, but she barely noticed. Her mind was racing, stuck on everything that had gone down in the last few hours. She could still feel the ghost of Alex’s kiss lingering on her lips—a harsh reminder of the reality she was now stuck in.

Obeying him felt wrong like she was betraying herself and everything she believed in. But deep down, she knew Alex had a point. The Moonblood Pack wasn’t just going to accept her because she had a new title; she had to earn their respect, even if it meant playing by rules she didn’t like.

The silence in the car was heavy, and though she could feel Alex’s presence beside her, she didn’t dare look his way. Her thoughts were spinning too fast, trying to make sense of it all. The tension between them was thick, but neither of them said a word.

Soon enough, they pulled up in front of a towering building made of steel and glass. A sleek sign on the front read “Lupine Industries” in bold, silver letters.

Without a word, Alex turned off the car, got out, and started walking around to her side, but Morgan stayed put. She wasn’t ready to face whatever was waiting for her inside.

When he opened her door, his eyes met hers with a mix of impatience and command. “Morgan, we’re here,” he said, leaving no room for argument.

With a resigned sigh, Morgan got out of the car and followed Alex toward the building. He held the door open for her, and she shot him a glare as she brushed past him.

The moment they stepped into the lobby of Lupine Industries, the room fell silent. It was like someone had hit the mute button, and all the bustling activity came to a stop. Every head turned toward them, and one by one, the employees bowed their heads—a show of respect meant for Alex, not her.

Glancing around the lobby, Morgan tried to keep her expression neutral, but she felt the weight of employees stares, the judgment in their eyes. It wasn’t admiration or respect for her—it was all for their Alpha, the guy who had their loyalty and fear. She was just an outsider, a figure they had to accept because of her connection to Alex, not because she’d earned their trust.

As Alex walked confidently across the room, Morgan followed a step behind, her heart pounding in her chest. This was so different from the warmth and camaraderie she was used to with her own pack. Here, every glance felt like a challenge, every bowed head a reminder of the power dynamics at play.

It hit her then—what Alex had meant during breakfast. This pack wasn’t going to follow her just because she was their Luna. She’d have to prove herself in ways that went beyond titles or alliances.

Something inside her snapped. Maybe it was remembering Alex’s words, or maybe it was the overwhelming need to prove to herself, and everyone else, that she wasn’t weak. Without thinking too much about it, Morgan slipped her arm through Alex’s, holding on tightly as she walked closed by him with her head held high.

Eyeing her, Alex didn’t stop walking, but she felt him tense up just a bit. She glanced up at him, half-expecting to see surprise or annoyance. Instead, his eyes met hers with a curious intensity. He didn’t say anything, but the faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips was a silent acknowledgment of her bold move.

As the elevator doors slid open, Alex guided her inside, his hand covering hers where it rested on his arm. He leaned in close, his breath warm against her ear.

“You’re full of surprises, Morgan,” he murmured, his voice tinged with amusement and something else she couldn’t quite pin down.

Raising her gaze, Morgan tilted her chin up, meeting his eyes with more confidence than she felt. “I figured it was time to start acting like the Luna you want me to be.”

"Good," He said, and the was something about the way he uttered that word that made her shiver. It wasn't just approval; it was a challenge, a dare to see how far she could go, how much of herself she was willing to sacrifice to fit into this world that was so foreign to her.

The elevator hummed softly as they ascended, and Morgan felt Alex’s hand still resting over hers, and her lashes fluttered as she looked away from him.

Moment later, as the elevator doors opened, Alex led Morgan down a wide corridor, and Morgan couldn’t help but feel like she was walking into a battlefield, even though the only sounds were the soft click of their shoes on the polished floor.

They soon reached a large, double-door office. Alex pushed the doors open, revealing a spacious room with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a panoramic view of the city. A massive desk sat in the center, flanked by modern, minimalist furniture that screamed both elegance and authority.

Before Morgan could take it all in, a young omega appeared from behind them, standing in the doorway. She was petite with wide, curious eyes and a nervous energy that filled the room the moment she noticed Alex. Her name tag read "Sophie," and the moment she stared at him, she quickly dipped her head in a respectful bow.

“Alpha Alex, Luna Morgan, good morning... Welcome...” Sophie greeted, her voice small but steady.

Turning to face her, Alex gave Sophie a brief nod, then placed a hand on Morgan’s lower back, guiding her forward. “Sophie, I’m no longer the CEO of Lupine Industries,” he began, his tone businesslike and matter-of-fact. “As of today, Morgan is the Luna of the Moonblood Pack, and she will be the one in control of this company.”

With a faint smile, Morgan saw Sophie’s eyes widen slightly, but she kept her composure, nodding quickly as she took in the information.

“Of course, Alpha,” she responded.

Looking over at Morgan, Alex continued without missing a beat. “I want you to schedule a meeting with the board so Luna Morgan can introduce herself and begin making decisions. She’ll need to be briefed on all ongoing projects and any urgent matters.”

“Yes, of course,” Sophie said, scribbling notes down quickly. “I’ll take care of everything.”

“Good,” Alex replied, his voice carrying that same finality it always did. He looked to Morgan, his expression unreadable. “I’ve done my part. It’s your turn now.”

When he suddenly took a step toward the door, Morgan blinked, caught off guard. “Where are you going?” she asked, a hint of frustration creeping into her voice.

Stopping in his track, Alex’s eyes locked onto hers, the intensity of his gaze making her stomach flutter. “I’ve handed things over to you. Now it’s your job to take control.” His words were firm, almost challenging as if daring her to rise to the occasion.

Before Morgan could argue or even fully process everything, Alex turned and walked out of the office without another word, leaving her standing there, stunned.

Speechless for a moment, Morgan watched the door close behind him, her mouth slightly open in disbelief.

“Asshole,” she muttered under her breath.

Looking away from the door, she was suddenly snapped from her thoughts when she noticed Sophie staring at her, wide-eyed, and her heart skipped a beat.
