A warning wrap in a gift
Gazing away from her, Alex stepped out of the car and walked around to open the door for Morgan.
She hesitated for a moment before stepping out, her mind still replaying the kiss that had just happened. The warm summer air seemed cooler now, but Morgan brushed off the lingering thoughts and focused on the present.
As they entered Lupine Industries, the lobby that was pulsing with energy when silent as Alex escorted Morgan through the hallways, his presence commanding the attention of the employees they passed, and they bowed deeply.
Moments later, when they reached the last floor, Sophie was at her desk, diligently typing away on her computer.
The young omega looked up as they approached, her eyes widening slightly in surprise when she noticed Morgan hugging Alex's arm.
When they stopped in front of Sophie's desk, Morgan glanced at Alex, a soft smile playing on her lips.
“Did I already tell you thank you for lunch?” she asked, her tone teasing.
A slow smile spread across Alex’s face, and he reached out to gently pat her head. “I think you might’ve mentioned it,” he said, his voice light.
Suddenly, Sophie's eyes widened as she stared at them, her lips parted slightly.
“See you later, Morgan,” Alex said as he turned to leave, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer before he walked away.
Subconsciously, Sophie’s eyes followed him until he disappeared around the corner, then she turned to Morgan, a grin spreading across her face.
"What's?" Morgan whispered, noticing her.
"I am doing it again... spacing out?" Sophie mumbled, snapping out of her thoughts.
When Morgan nodded, she sighed, sitting up straight as she whispered, leaning in conspiratorially. “You were just calling him an asshole this morning,”
Studying her eyes, Morgan chuckled, shaking her head. “If both packs are going to keep the peace, we have to at least like each other, right? Even without the mate bond.”
Sophie beamed at her, her eyes shining with admiration. “I like this side of you, my Luna.”
Raising a brow, Morgan’s smile softened, and she reached out to gently pat Sophie’s head as she said, “As long as I’m the leader of the Silver Claw pack, I’ll do my best to make sure war never happens between us and the Moon Blood pack again.”
“I know you will.” Sophie beamed.
With a final smile, Morgan headed into her office, closing the door behind her. She leaned against it for a moment, exhaling slowly as she tried to sort through the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her.
Just as she began to settle in, there was a soft knock on the door.
"Come in," Morgan called out, her voice steady.
The door creaked open, and Sophie peeked her head in. "Luna, do you have a moment?"
Sitting behind her desk, Morgan straightened up, nodding. "Of course. Come in."
Hesitantly, Sophie entered and closed the door behind her, a mix of curiosity and concern on her face.
"I forgot to ask, how was lunch, Luna?" she let out, her tone light but with an undercurrent of interest.
Seeing the innocent gaze in her eyes, Morgan offered a small, tired smile as she sank into her chair. "It was... eventful... Oh right... We need to talk."
A sudden look of fear crossed Sophie's face, and she moved closer, her attention focused. "What’s on your mind, my luna?"
For a moment, Morgan hesitated, then spoke, her voice tinged with regret. "I asked Alex if it would be possible for you to live in our quarters. I didn’t consult you first, and I’m sorry for that. I hope you understand."
Silently, Sophie’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly masked her emotions with a composed smile. "Really? Why, my Luna? I am not qualified-"
"Of course you are... and I just felt it would be easier for me if you were close by. You’ve been a great support to me, and frankly, you’re one of the few people I feel I can trust right now." Morgan said with a faint smile.
Immediately, Sophie’s expression softened, and she stepped closer to Morgan’s desk. "Luna, it’s an honor to serve you in any way I can. I’m actually quite happy about this. It’s a privilege to be closer to you, my Luna."
Morgan looked up, surprised by Sophie’s reaction. "Really? I thought you might have concerns."
Hastily, Sophie shook her head, her eyes shining with sincerity. "No concerns at all. I understand the importance of loyalty and support, and I’m more than willing to adjust. If it helps you and makes things easier, then it’s my honor."
"Thank you, Sophie. I really appreciate your support." Morgan said, feeling a wave of relief washed over her.
"Of course, Luna. I’m here for you."
I hope so. I just want things to be as smooth as possible. Especially with everything that's going on."
"I’m sure everything will work out just fine. And if there’s anything else you need, don’t hesitate to let me know."
"Will do. Thanks for being so understanding."
Hours later, when the sun had dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over the city, Morgan and Sophie finally called it a day.
As they walked out of Lupine Industries, the cool evening breeze was a welcome relief after the long day.
The building was quieter now, with most of the employees already gone, but a few still lingered near the entrance, their low murmurs filling the air.
Morgan's ears perked up at the snippets of conversation she caught.
“Did you see that car? It’s insane!” one of the employees said in an excited tone.
“I heard it’s the newest model, and it’s ridiculously expensive,” another chimed in.
Curiosity piqued, Morgan glanced at Sophie, who shrugged with an amused grin. “Want to check it out, my Luna?” Sophie asked, her eyes sparkling with interest.
"Why not?” Morgan chuckled, her curiosity getting the better of her as she started walking toward the small crowd gathered in the parking lot.
As they approached, the employees noticed them and quickly parted, making way for the Luna and her assistant.
Stopping in her tracks, Morgan’s breath hitched when she saw what everyone was fussing about. There, gleaming under the fading sunlight, was a monstrous black SUV, its sleek design and imposing presence commanding attention. It wasn’t just any SUV—it was the Karlmann King, the world’s most expensive one at that, worth a jaw-dropping $2 million.
Her eyes widened in surprise. “Is that…?” she started, but her sentence trailed off as she tried to wrap her mind around the sheer luxury of the vehicle in front of her.
With wide eyes, Sophie let out a low whistle, clearly just as stunned.
“Wow, that’s one hell of a car,” she murmured, her eyes sparkling with admiration. “Looks like someone’s making a statement.”
Before Morgan could respond, a man dressed in a crisp black suit appeared seemingly out of nowhere and approached them. He bowed deeply, showing a level of respect that made Morgan instinctively straighten up.
“Luna,” the man said in a smooth, formal tone, “Master Alex instructed me to take you and Miss Sophie back to the pack house in your new car.”
Morgan blinked, taken aback. “My new car?” she echoed, glancing from the driver to the SUV and back again. “Alpha Alex got this for me?”
“Yes, Luna,” the driver confirmed with another bow. “He wanted to ensure your comfort and safety.”
The employee's whispers continued to buzz softly around them as Morgan took a step closer to the Karlmann King, her fingertips grazing the cool, sleek surface of the SUV.
'Alex, the wolf that you are is scary... I am playing a risky game with you, ain't I?' Morgan's thoughts raced as she continued to stare at the massive vehicle before her, a mix of emotions swirling in her chest.
The Karlmann King was an extravagant gift, a clear statement from Alex that he valued her safety and comfort above all else. But it was also a reminder of the power and control he wielded, the unspoken dominance that came with being the Alpha of the Moon Blood pack, and she saw right through his gesture that he wanted her to remember that.
