Concubines

As Isabella's eyes glowed red, her secretary, Meanie, shifted uncomfortably, but her expression remained neutral. “It does seem like a poor start for her, my lady,” she said cautiously, trying to tread lightly. “But maybe she’s just overwhelmed…”

“Overwhelmed or not,” Isabella snapped, trying to calm her wolf, “she should at least have the decency to get things right. It’s like she’s trying to get rid of me before she’s even settled in. I’ve been the backbone of this company’s finances for years, and now she’s acting like it’s some sort of inconvenience.”

Slowly, Meanie nodded, though her eyes betrayed a flicker of nervousness as she lowered her gaze. “You know, my lady, you will always be Alpha Alex’s favorite. It’s hard to imagine Morgan will ever measure up to that.”

As her irises shifted back to black, Isabella sighed, leaning back in her chair, her gaze distant. “I suppose you’re right. But what about the rumors? Have you heard anything from the pack house since that bitch moved in with Alex?”

Raising her gaze slightly, Meanie hesitated for a moment before responding. “There are whispers that Luna Morgan has been quite… assertive with Alpha Alex. People say he has to put her in her place more often than not.”

A smirk slowly played on Isabella lips, and then she chuckled, a sharp edge to her laughter. “Alex never was one for women who don’t know their place. He prefers them more… compliant. If Morgan’s clashing with him, it’s only a matter of time before she becomes a problem and he get rid of her... for good...”

Suddenly, Meanie’s expression grew more serious as she added, “But you might want to keep an eye on Clara as well, my lady. I’ve been hearing that she’s been spending a lot more time with Alpha Alex lately. Some say they’re getting quite close.”

As the board members slowly rose from their seats, they exchanged glances but said nothing. Then calmly, they walked out of the room, and the tension seemed to dissipate slightly.

Remaining behind as the last of the women left, Sophie’s expression softened in to a smile. “Are you okay, my luna?"

The weight of the room finally lifted as the door closed behind the last person. Morgan exhaled deeply and turned to Sophie, her shoulders slumping. “I really messed up, didn’t I?”

“You had a rough start, my luna.” Sophie reassured her, “but it’s not the end of the world. They’re testing you, seeing how you handle pressure. It’ll get better.” She gave her a small, sympathetic smile.

Though not entirely convinced, Morgan nodded. “I need to be better prepared. I can’t afford to make any more mistakes.”

Minutes later, Sophie guided Morgan back through the corridors of Lupine Industries, the tension from the meeting still crackling between them as they approached her office.

Finally, when they entered the room, Morgan let out a heavy sigh, leaning against her desk. Hesitating for a moment, Sophie glanced at Morgan with a look that suggested she was wrestling with something she wasn’t sure she should share.

Sensing Sophie’s reluctance, Morgan turned to her with a steady gaze. “Sophie, I need to know what’s going on here. I get that the board members are powerful and influential, but there’s something more going on, isn’t there? I can feel it. It’s not just about the war or the company. What’s their deal with me?”

Sophie’s face grew pale, and she fidgeted with the edge of her sleeve. “Well, Luna, I’m not sure if I should—”

Morgan’s eyes flashed with a hint of steel as she commanded, “Sophie, as your Alpha, I’m commanding you to tell me what’s going on. No more games. What’s the real story here?”

Biting her lip, Sophie nodded reluctantly. “Okay, I’ll tell you. But please understand, it’s a lot to take in. The board members... they’re all concubines of Alpha Alex.”

Morgan’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Concubines? As in, they are...?”

“Yeah,” Sophie confirmed, her voice barely a whisper. “Since Alpha Alex isn’t bound by the mate bond, he’s have... multiple partners. The board members are all women he is involved with. It’s been a sort of unofficial arrangement, but it gives them considerable influence and power.”

Dumbfounded, Morgan’s mouth dropped open in shock. “You’ve got to be kidding me. So, not only am I expected to lead this company, but I’m also supposed to work with his lovers?”

With a sympathetic gaze, Sophie nodded. “That’s right. It’s a complicated situation, my luna. They’re powerful and hold significant sway over both the company and the pack. It seem like they see you as a... threat to their status.”

Shaking her head, Morgan struggled to process the revelation. “Why didn’t Alex tell me any of this? I walked into a minefield without even knowing the stakes. It’s not just a challenge; it’s a setup.”

Sophie stepped closer, her voice urgent. “I’m sorry, my Luna. But now that you know, maybe you can use this information to your advantage.”

Running a hand through her hair, Morgan’s frustration was palpable. “Use it to my advantage? Sophie, I’m supposed to be leading a team that’s hostile and resentful. It’s like being handed a broken sword and told to defend a castle. I can’t believe he didn’t give me a heads-up. I’m supposed to be his partner, and he leaves me to fend for myself in the mess he created.”

With a softened expression, Sophie tried to reassure her. “I know it’s a lot to deal with, my luna. But if anyone can handle it, it’s you. You’ve got the skills, and now you’ve got the truth. You just need to approach them carefully and show them you’re here to work with them, not against them.”

Taking a deep breath, Morgan tried to center herself. “Alright, Sophie. Thanks for being honest with me. I’ll need all the support I can get. Let’s regroup and figure out our next steps. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover if I’m going to navigate this situation and come out on top.”

Nodding with relief, Sophie promised, “Of course, my Luna. I’ll do everything I can to help you. We’ll get through this.”

After, Sophie had excused herself out of the office, Morgan paced back and forth in the room, her frustration bubbling to the surface. She muttered to herself, her voice laced with anger. “I can’t believe this. Alex, you bastard. You played me.”

She stopped in her tracks, staring at the wall, her hands clenched into fists. “He made me think this was about something bigger, about leading, about being his Luna, and all the while, he was just lumping me in with the rest of his harem.”

Her thoughts spiraled, the weight of the situation pressing down on her. “How could I be so stupid? Of course, he wasn’t going to treat me any differently. I’m just another name on his list. Another conquest. This isn’t about partnership or respect—it’s about control.”

Shaking her head, Morgan let out a bitter laugh, her frustration giving way to a burning anger. “I didn’t sign up to be one of his playthings. But he’s just a player with no real feelings, no real commitment. And now I’m stuck in this mess with these vicious women that seems to want my head on a plate.”

“And what so freaking annoying is that... If I’m going to survive this,” she murmured to herself, “I need his full support. Not just as the Alpha, but as someone who believes in me completely.”

With a deep sigh, Morgan rubbed her temples as she tried to formulate a plan. “But how do I get that? Everyone in his pack already sees me as a threat. I need to turn this around and use him instead, make Alex see me not just as a leader of the silver claw pack, but as someone indispensable... someone he can fight and die for... If I can make him fall in love with me...”
