“I want to dance!” Noah stomped his feet like a whiny kid.
I covered his mouth with my hands and glanced around; making sure no one was witnessing this ordeal. After dragging him subtly from the stage before he could announce the meaning of ‘happy’ to everyone, I had brought him to a secluded corner of the dining area.
He had pointed to the moon, visible from the floor to ceiling window and whispered to me, “It’s full moon tonight. Can we turn into werewolves?”
I had face palmed so hard that I think I broke my skull.
And, as the music came on, and people started waltzing to it, he wanted to dance too.
“You can’t face everyone like that!” I exclaimed, peering into his red, swollen eyes.
He gave me a lazy grin. “Yes. But, I can face them, with you by my side.”
I faltered for a moment at his words, then, composed myself and gave him a stern look. “Noah, I swear to God, if your mother sees you like this tonight, you are dead.” I even had to make the motion of slitting my throat, to get my point across his foggy brain.
He had looked serious for a moment, before he burst out in laughter. “What’s a mother?”
I was so taken aback that I was rendered speechless for a moment. “Noah…” I started slowly, “I was talking about the queen, your-”
He cut me off as soon as he heard the word ‘queen’ and pulled me to him. “What queen? The only queen here is…wait, what was her name again?” he tapped a finger against his forehead, then, suddenly snapped with delight. “Yes! Chloe awesome Scott!”
“I-I-” I stuttered, failing to come up with a reply.
“Meet my mate, Chloe awesome Scott,” he held up a fork in front of my eyes.
My lips set in a grim line and I gave him an unimpressed look. He, of course ignored me, and the next I know, he was organizing a battle between the forks and spoons on the table.
For a moment I was relieved that he was distracted, but, that relief flew out the window when my eyes fell on Alice strutting towards us.
“Shit! Come on, Noah, time to leave,” I grabbed his hand to pull him up from his chair. After throwing a big whiny tantrum and muttering about his childish battle of forks and spoons, he finally stopped resisting and got up. Okay, fine, I may have had to bribe him with a promise of giving him more forks and spoons later.
We were walking through the sidelines of the dance floor, going successfully unnoticed when Noah suddenly started singing horribly:
“Johnny Johnny! Yes, papa? Have you any wool? Baba black sheep? No, papa! Twinkle twinkle-”
I turned around quickly and slapped my palm over his mouth. What the hell was he even singing? A medley of nursery rhymes?
Noah started making noises behind my hand, and I gave the severest look I could muster, then, placed a finger on my lips. “Shh!”
He turned still at that, then, closed his eyes and nodded compliantly. I removed my hand from over his mouth, slowly and skeptically. Maybe he was finally coming around-
“Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…!!!” he made a very loud noise with his finger on his lips, making me jump in fright.
My head whipped towards the dance floor, where the people standing closest to us, were now looking and pointing in our direction. Before I could grab Noah’s hand again, to drag him away, he was already stumbling towards the middle of the dance floor.
Now, everyone had started recognizing him as Noah, the prince. He was waving at everyone, with a huge grin on his face. I quickly went up to him, and wrapped my arm around his wrist.
At that exact moment, the lights started fading away and the dance floor was slowly engulfed into darkness. A slow song started playing, and the chattering around us died as everyone adapted to the mood. I couldn’t even see properly now. All I could make out was Noah’s silhouette in the dark.
“Noah,” I whispered, tightening my hold around his wrist. “Don’t try anything funny. We will quietly walk away from here. Do you understand?”
“Can we not dance?” he asked, quietly. I could just about imagine him pouting and looking adorable. But, I shook my head. In the state he was in, by ‘dance’, he probably meant jumping around like a monkey and snatching people’s wigs.
But, without even listening to me, Noah had managed to release his arms from my hold and wrap his own fingers around my hand. He pulled me closer with a single tug and guided my hand to his shoulder. And, while still clasping my right hand, his free hand went around my waist. And, before I knew it, we were gently swaying to the light music in the background, our feet shuffling mindlessly and our eyes locked in each others’.
I was stumped. How could he- I mean, I thought-
“Have a little faith in me, Chloe,” he leaned in to whisper, as his breath fanned my ear. “I have formal training in these things, you know?”
Oh…of course, he had…he was a prince after all. Maybe, I was worrying too much-
“Ouch!” I yelped, when his shoe collided with my feet.
“Oops,” he laughed lowly, “watch it, Chloe. Why are your steps faltering? Are you drunk?”
“Noah, you annoying SOB!” I fumed, purposefully stepping on his foot, and digging my heels there. But, it didn’t deter him in the slightest.
Suddenly, in sync to the changing tune, he was spinning me around and then, pulling me back to him. Only this time, my back was to his chest and both of his arms encircled around my waist. I felt my breath hitching in my throat, as my senses were swiftly overpowered by his amazing smell and his breath fanning my neck.
“I feel like I am drunk,” he breathed in my ear.
“No shit,” I replied in an unsteady voice.
“But, I always feel like this whenever I am with you,” he continued, making me shiver with his closeness.
I could only breathe in response. Slowly and steadily, I was becoming aware of the air around us which was thick with tension and intimacy. My heart was beating wildly, becoming hyper aware of my close proximity to Noah and his body heat and incredible smell that was engulfing me.
My knees almost gave their way under me, when I felt Noah’s lips brush against the side of my neck. What’s breathing, again?
I think, I was dreaming…maybe Noah was right, I was the drunken one here…
I was trying to convince myself that soon I would start seeing stars on the ceiling, when I felt him brush his lips against the back of my neck, again.
What was happening? I- I was about to collapse…my heart couldn’t take it anymore.
“Noah.” I managed to breathe out, tipping my head sideways to look into his eyes.
“Chloe.” he mumbled in response, meeting my eyes with an overwhelming intensity.
“W-what are you d-doing?” I managed to stutter out.
Instead of replying, he turned me around by my shoulders, never breaking eye contact. And, before I knew it, he was leaning closer and closer.
“This is something I should have done a long time ago,” he rasped, and without missing a beat, he captured my lips with his.
I was so lost in the moment that my brain failed to register the spotlight that had fallen upon us.
A/N: Sorry if things got a little too heated lmao. But, I do try to keep things balanced. Anyway, this kiss was long overdue, wasn’t it? Funny thing is that, in my first book too, (TBBTBAM), their first kiss happens in chapter 33, lol. Anyway, I hope you liked the chapter. I am so bad at writing intimate scenes…don’t even get me started, like I start thinking about everyone reading this book and judging me blah blah and then, I can’t focus on writing it, and then, I try to censor it and make it as PG 13 as possible and yeah…end of rant. I will go now XD. I hope you liked the chapter! Drama coming up upcoming chapters and secret spilling too ;)
