Chapter 32

Amelia had no other option now as she could no longer go out from the entrance she came in. She had to find a way to hide from her vampire pursuers inside the hotel but how would she get past the receptionists? She wasn't with her credit card and even if she was she was sure she couldn't afford a room in a place like this. Her best bet is to try to sneak her way past them into the main hotel. She already had her eyes set on the elevator but executing her plans would be very difficult as she must first pass the receptionists stand before she gets to the elevator and the two receptionists at the stand a male and female, had their eyes on her like hawks.

No time to think it through though as the vampires finally entered into the lobby and Amelia just hurriedly walked to the direction of the elevator while stylishly hiding herself at the back of the passersby to get away from the eyes of the receptionists and It seemed her plan was about to work for a moment as she had managed to bypass the receptionists and the elevator entrance was the only thing ahead of her....but then.

“Hey Miss," One of the receptionists, the lady, called her attention but Amelia chose to ignore her call and continue walking. Getting closer to the elevator however the lady was persistently calling her.
“Miss, Miss on black I am talking to you!"

Amelia had to stop as the lady's voice was pretty loud and it was drawing attention to herself but so far her vampire pursuers haven't seen her yet however she knew if that lady keeps screaming like that her cover would be blown.

“Sorry, are you talking to me?" Amelia acted innocently as she withdrew her steps back to the receptionist's stand.

“Yes, you haven't checked in." The female receptionist said, giving Amelia a not so nice look.

”Oh really. I thought I had, it must have slipped my mind." Amelia tried to cover her lies with laughter and smile but the receptionist wasn't buying it and maintained a serious look.

“Are you booking a room or are you here as one of our client's visitors?" She inquired formally and Amelia used some seconds to think.

“A visitor," she replied and the receptionist studied Amelia for a few seconds.

“And what's the name of our client you want to meet and their room number?" She asked and it was obvious she knew Amelia won't be able to answer her question with the way she spoke.

“Mmmm.." Amelia couldn't produce any words from her mouth. Her lies had caught up with her and she knew there was no way this receptionist was letting her in and just then her senses became heightened and she immediately turned around.

That's when she saw that her vampire pursuers had seen her and were already approaching her.

“I have forgotten the person's name and room number but can't you please just let me in?" Amelia pleaded with the receptionist.

“I can't do that and I'm afraid I will have to call security on you if you don't leave here." The receptionist said, sounding a bit harsh.

A panicking Amelia turned around again to see that the vampires had gotten even closer to her and any seconds from now she would be at their mercy. The vampires were already smiling evilly.

There was nowhere to run to but Amelia won't go down without a fight. It was against the wolf's rule for a wolf to shape shift in front of a human, most especially in a public place like this filled humans but at this point Amelia doesn't care about any fucking rules she will do everything and anything to stay alive and if that means breaking a long time rule and traditional so be it...

She had prepared herself to transform to her wolf's form but then she heard that voice that melted her very soul.

“She is with me."

Amelia turned around and she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw Damon standing right next to her looking as handsome as ever in his black coat and he was very much alive which was the best part to Amelia.

“Damon," she called softly with lots of emotions visible in her eyes.

“She is with me. So can I take her in?" Damon said, flashing a charming smile at the female receptionist that got her acting like a teenage girl in love.

“Of course, of course. She can," she said.

“Thank you," He said, still smiling at her before he turned to Amelia.
“Come let's go," he took hold of her by the hand and took her towards the elevator.

Amelia gladly went with him but she turned her head around as she walked to find the three vampires just standing at a spot watching angrily as she and Damon got into the elevator. They were no longer pursuing her.

Inside the elevator Amelia couldn't stop staring at Damon as if she had seen a ghost but Damon looked unbothered, he just stood in silence as the lift took them up to the top floor.

The doors of the elevator opened up and Damon walked out with Amelia following him from behind before she caught up with his steps and they were walking side by side.

“How come you are alive?" She asked before Damon got to his apartment door and Damon turned only his face to her.

“Do you want me dead?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No..of course not. Why will I want you dead?" She felt hurt by his words but Damon just stared at her for some seconds before he opened the door and walked in.

“I actually thought you were dead cause my brother Henry said you were attacked by a gang of vampires including the vampire that left me for dead," Amelia explained herself as she came in.

“Oh, the gray wolf. Did he tell you that he ran off like a coward as well?" Damon said and Amelia paused for a while.

“He is not a coward. He just didn't think there was a chance of you winning that fight even if he assisted." Amelia came to her brother's defense.

“Sounds exactly like something a coward would say," Damon said and Amelia felt bad but she understood nobody will be happy when abandoned.

“That doesn't matter anymore, what matters is that you are alive and I am very happy," she said, smiling genuinely.

“Why are you here?" Damon asked and his question made her confused.

“What do you mean?" She asked.

“I said why are you here? Why did you come to town when you know you can't defend yourself against the vampires?" Damon said with his crystal, ocean blue eyes boring into hers.

“I came because I was searching for you." She answered.

“Didn't your brother tell you I was dead? Yet you still came looking for me, risking your life?" he said and once again he had one of his eyebrows raised.

“I..I just couldn't believe you were dead. Something kept telling me you were still alive even if it didn't make sense," she said and Damon just stared at her.
“And it turns out I am right, you are alive. So it was worth the risk." She further stated, staring at Damon with loving eyes.

“It will take more than a few night walkers to kill me," Damon said, then he walked and poured himself a glass of wine.
“Care for some?" He said to her and Amelia nodded.

Damon filled another cup and stretched out his hand out and Amelia walked up to him, taking the glass cup from his hand.

“Thank you." She said before taking a sip but squeezed her face slightly as she swallowed down.
“Ahh." She gave out a discomfort sound, clearly the alcohol content was really strong.

Damon watched her for a while then sipped some more wine from his cup and in no time he was done with his glass cup and was refilling his cup while Amelia was still battling to finish hers.

“How do you do it?" Amelia asked and Damon took his eyes to her.

“I pour it into my mouth," he replied.

“I am not talking about that. I mean how do you do it? How do you manage to be alive despite living in a city full of vampires? How did you survive when a gang of deadly vampires attacked you?? I mean I haven't stayed up to a day here and I was almost killed by bloodsuckers but you have been living here for some days now and yet you are unharmed. How do you do it?" She asked and her eyes showed her eagerness to know the answers.

“Can't you tell I am different?" Damon answered with a question.

“I can, I just don't know what makes you different. You ain't a pure wolf, are you? Are you some kind of hybrid?? Half wolf, half vampire? But you don't smell like one of them," Amelia said the word vampire with a disgusted look on her face.

“If I were one would that matter to you?" Damon asked, staring at her directly in the eyes.

“No, it wouldn't." She replied and Damon walked to meet her, closing the distance between them.

“Why?" He said in a whisper his crystal, ocean blue eyes focused on her hazel green eyes.

“Because I am in love with you." She didn't know when the words left her mouth.
