Am I a dark fairytale?!!…
*The day she was born, they said, 'She is built for war and the hunger of a big bad wolf!!...*
**Proserpina**
Cold...I was so cold. This cave part was freezing. It looked spectacular as well as disturbing. There was an eerie silence as if nothing was welcome here. It looked full of secrets, daring you to enter its domain and embrace death.
I looked over at the mass of that weird thing. It was the only thing growing in that part of the cave. It was a root with a crimson thing flowing through it. It branched into tiny fibres and was tangled into knots in some places. There were a few fossilized corpses embedded into it. Its base was big and hollow with an opening.
Despite its harrowing appearance, I found myself drawn to it. Although the rational part of my brain warned me from doing anything stupid, the irrational part beckoned me to touch it. I walked closer, feeling compelled to do so as if something inside the core of that root was calling me to it.
"No! Don't touch..." Hades started to say, but it was too late. My fingers curled, and my nails scraped against the root. I sucked in a sharp breath as it began moving rigorously and tingled in my arms. I cried as it tore into my skin. Then I heard a strange noise.
"What's happening?!" I shouted as I had to yell over the noise as it was getting too loud. And then everything around me, along with Hades, merged and blurred with the rest of the world. It seemed as if an artist had painted something, and then whilst the pain was still wet, he ran an angry hand through the portrait. I felt as if I was watching the warped version of reality. But this was soon to be the least of my problems.
I was teleported to a different time, another place or maybe another nightmare. It felt like I was stepping into the past.
I was standing on the surface of the water. It was dark, wet, and foggy. I could smell the damp earth and the cold penetrating my thin clothes. The thick viscous clouds were growling in the night sky and about to wreak havoc in the surrounding wilderness. Once my nerves got better, I tried to move quickly, finding myself unable to do so. I felt as if the chains bound me. Then a current started coursing through my body, and when I looked down, all I could see were those weird roots coming out and wrapping my lower body. The roots glowed crimson when the moon finally escaped the shadows of the cloud.
"What the hell?!" I asked myself when the roots around me suddenly grew higher and higher. I was twisting and squirming to release from its hold. Then my eyes fell on the water's surface, and I found my reflection staring at me. My reflection was that of a tortured woman calling out for help. The trauma in her eyes told me that something wasn't right. She screamed at me, desperate to be released from the eternal cage. I wanted to pull away and recoil from her, but I couldn't.
My reflection got closer to me and whispered, "Time to go... Time to end this...Dagger!"
The moment the word 'Dagger' was uttered, the water rippled as if something beneath it was being disturbed. It was enough to jolt me into action. I yanked my hand with unimaginable power and pulled out the dagger.
"Just die!" I screamed, cutting through the roots over and over again. The largest slash was too deep for the reins to let go of me. I slumped back, away from the clutches of that deadly parasite. Then a big hand suddenly reached out to grab me.
And I was transported back to that cave with Hades.
"Wh...What was that?" I asked, shaking my head and trying to regain my senses.
"Are you alive!?" Hades asked, holding my face in his hands. I frowned down at his question. I threw that dead piece of root I had cut with the dagger. It turned grey and lifeless.
"I think so," I gave him the uncertain answer, looking over my hands and body.
He pulled me from that hideous thing and then looked down at that damn piece of root. He raised an eyebrow and said, "One of your claws, I presume?"
"Dagger...Yada!"
"That's impossible!" His eyes turned wide as if he was looking at the ghost.
"Why? Are humans forbidden to touch that ugly thing?" I asked.
"Not only humans, even the supernaturals. No one has ever survived touching that thing."
"Well, they must be drunk then... and this proves I'm not supernatural," I spoke with a smirk.
"Well, they were dead... and this also proves that you're not a human either," Hades chuckled.
"So what am I? A ghost? Zombie? Alien? Am I even visible or alive?" I spoke sarcastically.
"Definitely alive as I can touch you!" He spoke, caressing my cheek.
"Well, if you want to touch me, then you should just ask me for a date," I said with a forced laugh.
"A date with a weird woman born to piss off people."
"Sounds good," I said as we both moved ahead. Suddenly my foot struck something, making me trip on the floor. I almost screamed bloody murder.
"Shut the fuck up...it's just a rock...will you ever grow up or..." Hades said, giving me his hand. I scowled at him but anyways grabbed his hand.
"Or what, you gonna put me on a leash?" I snapped, making him grin.
"Don't give me ideas, Raven," he said before adding, "But I think it's a nice one."
"Yeah, this raven can use the dagger, and not in a way you will like it!" I spoke, taking out the dagger and pointing at his stiff erection.
"Seriously, do you think this toy dagger will do the job?" He asked, trying to hide his laugh.
"Well, this dagger cut through that weird root that no supernatural or human can survive. But considering the diameter of your manly bit, I need to try to see if this dagger can do the job," I grinned at him.
"But my dear Raven, if you want to see me naked, all you need to do is ask...or beg, depending on my mood."
"Asshole!" I muttered.
"Yeah, well, this asshole saved you from those shadows by making them disappear," He said.
"Disappear? Didn't you kill them?" I asked, biting my tongue to hold back the urge to call him an asshole again.
"I just made them disappear. They cant be killed. They must be hiding somewhere. But don't worry, as they never forget the scent of the victim so that they will come back to you with a bang." he chuckled. And I was not sure if he was serious or just scaring the shit out of me.
"If you want me to stay with you, just ask...no need to scare me." I hit back. He rolled his eyes at me.
"And if you want to talk with me, then just talk...no need to piss me off by your stupid question every other second."
"Noted, but after my last question," I spoke warily. His face looked like he was just a hairbreadth away from gagging me, but like you say, 'Curiosity is mightier than a pissed-off man.'
"Who commands the shadows?" I spoke it quickly as if it would help me escape his wrath.
"Dracula-The shadow," He must have thought that giving away the answer would be more sensible than arguing with me.
"The shadow of Vlad?" I gasped in horror. He gave me a questioning look, which made me realize that I shouldn't give away too many emotions. I observed that Hades is intelligent and won't take long to know my identity if I keep fumbling. I continued speaking to avert his suspicion, "Oh, I know because everybody knows...remember those stories if cranky kids don't sleep at night...Go to sleep, or Dracula will take you to his lair...I was one of those grumpy kids...yeah." I hope my answer will convince him.
"Were you also one of those grumpy kids?" I asked him. The killer look he gave me was enough to warn me to stop the nonsense. "Just asking as I felt your distress. It's okay if you don't want to share."
The moment my words hit him, his body almost froze. I had entered the forbidden part of his life, which he had hidden in the shadows of his heart. I had no clue what was going on in his mind as his nerves and mind seemed all over the place. It felt like one part of him wanted to bare his heart, but the other seemed annoyed. For a second, I thought I was interfering too much in his life, considering I knew nothing about him except his name. After twenty minutes of me panicking and freaking him out, he decided to share something.
"Just a nightmare, haunting me since my childhood." He started speaking.
*There's so much he wants to say, but nah!!...*
