Adolph's Painful Shift

NEW YORK

ON THE EVE OF THE FULL MOON

ADOLPH'S 16TH BIRTHDAY

Tatiana and Zion huddled closely, the wind blowing coldly, as they stood in the centre of the large field where they had come to begin their son's ascent into a wolf.

Today was the eve of the full moon, which was coincidentally Adolph's 16th birthday, and the night of his turning.

He had started showing signs of his inner wolf named Zeus calling out to him, and for weeks Adolph didn't attend school.

He had become so restless, always talking to himself at home and biting at his nails every time.

His best friend Charles who was the son of their only human friend Mara in the city, had even come to check up on him due to his absence at school, and Tatiana taking up her motherly role had told the worried boy that his best friend was sick.

The past few days had been tough for their little boy, and Zion knew that their son's shifting was going to be a terrible and painful one because he was transforming into one of the most powerful wolf.

Zion himself was a second grade Apex Alpha, and the folklore and myth known to every member of the Apex Alpha family clan was that a secong grade Apex Alpha would birth a highly classed first grade Apex Alpha, which was what their son Adolph was.

He would be the third in line of first grade Apex Alpha's that had emerged from the Keanu clan.

This classification was one of the main reason, why their son hadn't shifted at the age of 13 or 14 like most wolves did.

It was because he needed to be strong enough to endure the excruciating pain he would face, and agile enough also to battle it.

Adolph had been growing hairs all around his body for almost three days, a vey strange occurence but was most likely as a result of his special powers and abilities, and he had also been choosing his meals specifically, sometimes going for days without eating anything.

He was barely talking, choosing instead to respond whenever he was being asked something, with a low mewl, and exhibiting all kinds of strange behaviours.

Now, as Tatiana and Zion both stared at Adolph, it was evident by the look on their faces that they were both worried if their son would remain the same after this great ordeal.

Luckily for Zion, he had scoured around looking for a strong werewolf shape shifter guide, one that would help their son control his raging hormones once his shifting began, and he had seen a woman who would help them do the job.

Earlier, prior to their arrival at this lone large field, the shape shifter guide had gotten lots of herbs such as wolfsbane, a silvery liquid and some leaves all which she had mixed and had given to Adolph before he had been bundled into the car that had driven them down to the outskirts of New York City.

They had also gotten chains, some ropes and other materials that would help them in controlling Adolph, because they both knew he would turn into a large fit as soon as the full moon appeared.

Zion, looked up at the moon instinctively, waiting for it to shine and glow in it's full form and then he looked back at his son who was in the center of the large field hands and legs tied, as he yelped and barked too.

Adolph had already become so hairy, and he was talking to himself, shaking his head furiously and trying so hard to free himself from the chains but all to no avail.

"We've got little or no time right?" Tatiana asked, looking at Zion, and stroking her husband's chest gently.

Despite her soft strokes, Zion knew she was trembling inside, and her face was already damp with tears.

He had not even wanted her coming, but she had insisted claiming that Adolph was her son and that she needed to be there for him, like a mother would for her son.

Like a wolf would for her cub, and Zion had relented not wanting to anger her.

"Yeah, the full moon is open us, and I'm trying to say some spells to ease his pain. Not to worry ma'am your son would be fine." The shape shifter guide replied Tatiana and she nodded slowly.

"Our son would be fine okay." Zion said gently, his hands on her face, wiping away the tears falling down from her cheeks.

The shape shifter walked towards Adolph and sprinkled some wolfsbane powder again on his body and he made a sound which was akin to that of a wolf.

"The full moon is almost nigh... Give us the fortitude to withstand this pain... Let this procession be an easy one..." The shape shifter continued praying, saying some incomprehensible words, as she walked round Adolph and his parents just stood far away, in each other's arms as they prayed silently too.

Zion looked up at the sky after some minutes, and that was when the full moon appeared and all hell broke loose.

"The full moon is nigh..." The guide declared, and they watched her cut of her skin causing blood to smear the ground as Adolph began to howl loudly.

He was changing...

The hairs in his body began to increase in full, as sprouting furs became visible everywhere.

He was trying to be freed from his chains, but they couldn't go near him, and they also knew that once he shifted he would break the chains with so much strength.

Despite the darkness surrounding them, the full moon surprisingly shone directly on Adolph, and Tatiana and Zion could see his long claws from his finger and toenails coming out in full force.

His soft shiny nails, were being replaced with large dangerous claw hands of a beast, and his fingers started cracking as his flesh began peeling.

He was howling so loudly, and as he screamed and shifted the wails from Tatiana became more louder as she shuddered helplessly against her husband.

The next thing, they saw was him turning towards them as if on instinct, and howling loudly, fur covering most of his body and face Adolph's eyes shone bright, and his Iris turned reddish yellow.

Followed next, was the painful process of his bones cracking so loudly that Tatiana had to cover her ears to mute the shrilling sound.

She couldn't even look at him, and so Zion and the shape shifter guide who was also staring from afar, watched as Adolph's entire body started molding itself into its new werewolf shape, and his bones began to snap, lengthen, and pop through the skin and back into place, as his body shape grew and grew.

The chains he had on him, had been broken just like they had predicted, and he was just laying low, his body morphing into an identical wolf shape and his true form coming out.

He was becoming more bigger, and then finally there was silence which was then followed by breaking of bones and then Adolph's wolf alias Zeus came into being.

He howled loudly, looking at the full moon his mewling sound like music as the wolf started going round and round in circles.

"He is done Tati. We need to shift, and go be with him as a family." Zion said gently to Tatiana, who was still shaking helplessly and she looked up, and seeing Adolph in his mighty form....

So mighty than any baby wolf she had ever seen, Tatiana broke into another heart wrenching sob, but this time it was one of pure awe and gratitude.

"Should we do this?" Zion asked, holding her hands, and she was not even listening to him, her eyes focused on her son when she nodded slowly, "Yes we should."

Facing her, Zion laid a kiss on her neck, whispering soft reassurances in her ears and then he proceeded to bite deep into her skin.

As he did this, he both of them immediately transformed into their inner beasts as the full moon shone on them, and ran off to meet Adolph who was aimlessly wandering about.

As for the shape shifter, she stood and watched blissfully, as the three wolves came together as if in a ritualistic circle, and looking towards the moon they started howling beautifully...
