Responsibilities Awaiting

(Author’s Note – Finally Adolph’s and Daciana’s childhood has been duly explained, and right from this chapter our main story starts.

Our main lead Adolph is now grown up, and he’s a 31 year old Billionaire business man, still living in New York.

There would also be chapter and place diversions, as I would be splitting between New York and Alaska (Where our female lead is), before focusing on just Alaska when our male lead goes there.

Thanks so much for your support, and drop your honest reviews.

From here onwards, our bumpy story ride begins…)

SOME YEARS LATER

NEW YORK CITY

Adolph stood besides his mother, hands on her shoulders as he watched his uncle Fenris, give information about what was to be done, concerning his father’s burial, and the big fate that awaited him back at his hometown in Alaska.

Fists clenched, his heart squeezed gently as he thought back to the events of the last few weeks.

His father, Zion Ceaser, passed away from unknown circumstances some months back, and ever since then Adolph could plainly say that his life had been thrown into real chaos.

Business had taken a downturn, because the responsibilities mounting on his shoulders were taking a toll on him, and just last night his Uncle Fenris had arrived from Alaska, with some good and bad news.

The good news being that, the pack and clan had approved of his father’s rite burial and passage to the underworld, and the bad news being that Adolph needed to come back to Alaska.

Not just for his father’s burial, but also to assume his rightful place as the heir of the Keanu Clan.

There were so many things to be solved, and taken care off and he knew if he left for Alaska this instant it would take months for him before he would be able to come back to New York.

But still, there was no way Adolph could deny this surmounting issue, as it was a traditional rite that the first son of an Alpha, clearly became the Alpha and leader of his pack should in case anything bad happens, and before his father’s strange death he hadn’t denounced his position as Leader of his clan, so now his duties had been duly passed to Adolph.

Also Adolph knew he had to…

“Adolph, son.” His mother called out, breaking him from his strain of thoughts, and hairy brows arching up, Adolph turned to face her.

“Yes ma.”

“Did you hear what your uncle just said? You look like you haven’t been listening right? What are you thinking about?” His mother, Tatiana asked him, her voice lowly and breaking and again Adolph’s heart squeezed in pain.

Of everyone mourning, and suffering the aftermath of his father’s death, Adolph knew that his mother was bearing the worst of it all.

She had just watched the love of her life, vanish and drawn into the cold abyss of death, and Adolph doubted if his mother would ever be the same again.

At first she hadn’t even believed Adolph, when he had brought the news of his father’s demise to her, and days after she had been in a trance, staggering in and out if consciousness.

She had cried day in, and day out, that even Adolph’s attempt at consoling her had proving abortive and he had decided to leave alone.

Not just the death of his father bringing out his mother’s soft shell, but then the demise of the great leader of the Keanu Clan was enough reason for long lost relatives and people Adolph barely knew about to resurface.

He had no idea how they had even known the address of where they lived, but a week after his father’s death, pack members, relatives, strangers he had never met before in his life flocked Adolph’s mansion in New York, dropping their condolences and making themselves feel free at home.

As it stood now, as he was right here in his private office with his mom and Uncle, downstairs and most part of the mansion were filled with wolf members and relatives.

He didn’t like the disturbance one bit, but then he had to tolerate them and be polite to them.

This were the people he was going to rule soon, and he wouldn’t want to be an eyesore to them, or create a bad impression on them.

Back to what they were discussing…

“You need a mate son. A Luna that is, you have to take up a wife before you can be rightfully inducted in the throne.” His uncle Fenris said to him.

“A mate?” Adolph asked and laughed sarcastically, “Have you forgotten that I’m mateless Uncle? Or do you mean to throw a jab at me?” He asked, already feeling down at the reminder that he could never fall in love, despite how much he wanted to.

He wanted to share the beautiful relationship his mother and father had, even till they were much older, and he wanted to rear kids with a woman he loved, and would give the world for.

Unfortunately he could’nt.

He was a well known womanizer, and playboy in New York, but after years of scouting and going after thousands of pussies, having his fair share of women, he still hadn’t found that woman that would make his heart go wild.

He even had an on and off girlfriend, beautiful Cassandra, but he never felt anything for her.

He just fucked her, and she was one of his numerous flings, or favorite fling rather.

Fuck the Prophecy!

Fuck what the witch had predicted, just like his parents had told him some years ago!

Fuck everything!

Adolph knew that if he met this woman, he would make her fall in love with him, whoever she was, but the main question here was?

Where the heck was she?

Was she here in New York, or Alaska, or another part of the world, maybe another country?

If he could remember the prophecy vividly, he could recall words such as, - "He will fall in love with her, but she will hate him. She would be the lowlest of beings but he would crave her touch. She is his antidote, cure, that he can never have. He will be a blasphemy to his generation, she would be the one to redeem him. He is the cursed one." –

So he was definitely going to meet her.

“The prophecy said the woman you might love, wouldn’t love you back. It never said you wouldn’t get a mate, or wife or whatever…”

“And you want me to get married to someone I don’t love?” Adolph asked, his jaw ticking, as he removed his hands from his mother’s shoulders, and proceeded to roll the sleeves of his suit shirt up his tattooed arms.

His jaw was ticking, and he was already becoming angry but he tried to keep his cool not because of himself, or the respect he had for his uncle but because of his mother.

She was the only reason why he was being this way.

“Of course yes son. You need a Luna to establish your stand on the throne. You might not love her, but in time you would learn to tolerate her and who knows you might even fall in love with her. We don’t always end up with who we love, you can use me as an example, I’m a good definition of that.” His uncle finished, and Adolph watched as his eyes dimmed and went straight to his mother who was surprisingly looking down shyly, and sniffling.

What the?

His uncle did love his mother.

Something Adolph's father had told him one time about a relative, falling in love with his mother but she had chosed his father instead.

He was still connecting the dots, when his uncle said again, disrupting his thoughts, “So what do you say Adolph. Should we get a mate for you? A Luna one that would…”

“Enough!”

There was no way he was letting anyone choose anything for him, fuck the tradition.

His hands raised up, and wiping his hands over his forehead, his jaw still ticking Adolph said curtly, “I would make my decisions myself. I’m of age, I’m the Alpha and future leader of the clan, and I wouldn’t be seen as a weak man, unable to do what he wants. Uncle, continue the preparations for our leave with Alaska, I’ll sort myself out. I think that would be all for now.”

“But…”

Adolph raised his hands dismissively, and pointed at the door indicating he leave, “I have work to do uncle. It night interest you to know that I am also a business man, and my business comes first and I have lots of work to do. I can’t leave my identity in New York in shambles, and just follow you all to Alaska. So please if you would excuse me.”

“Son…” His mother called out softly, but thankfully his uncle had gotten the message.

“It’s okay Tati. I’ll take my leave.” Fenris said, and bowing his head Adolph watched as he walked out of the office leaving just him and his mother.

“You were a bit to harsh son.”

“I don’t like it when someone dictates things for me. You should know that Mom.” He said, and walking to her, he took her hands gently in his and then said reassuring not only her but himself too, “I would be well mom and so will you. The first step would be to go too Alaska, and we’re making plans towards that. Don’t be worried okay.”

“Okay son, I trust you.” She said softly, and Adolph smiled slowly.

“All would be well soon. All would be well…”
