Chapter Forty Six: The Blood Moon Spell
“Stella Martin” Father Wilmut said with a gravity in his tone, which Lorraine couldn’t understand. “She’s the visitor I told you about, a mixed blood witch. Almost thirty years ago, a witch from the Delvaux family fell in love with a human man, and Stella Martin was the product of that.”
“Why did she come to you?” Cedric asked with suspicion in his tone.
“You understand how the Delvaux family feels about mixed—blood witches. So, it was expected that they would disown her, they even went as far as trying to kill her. I think after the death of her mother, Victoria took her under her wing, and they have been inseparable since then. When Ms. Martin came and found me, she explained to me how Victoria got involved with The Brotherhood of The Sun. Apparently, with the way the Delvaux treated Stella, she thought by gaining more power they would come to accept her.” His eyes found Cedric, “An ancient spell, written by the Vancsura, is a way to borrow more power.”
Cedric's eyes widened and he moved forward in his seat, “You don’t mean…?” He trailed off then shook his head as if the idea sounded ridiculous. “It’s just a myth, no one performed that spell before!”
“But someone did try.” Father Wilmut stated.
Lorraine shook her head, “Alright, can you guys share with the class? What are you talking about?”
“The Blood Moon spell.” Father Wilmut answered. “A spell that has been written and perfected by your ancestors, only attempted once by a Vancsura witch, and it was stopped by another. It was one of the reasons your family fell apart.”
“What does it do exactly?” Lorraine questioned and her eyes drifted between Wilmut and Cedric.
“It opens the doors between worlds.” Cedric retorted vaguely with an unfocused gaze.
Lorraine turned to Father Wilmut, silently asking him to explain further. He let out a breath, “The world wasn’t only created for humans as you know now, When the world was created, humans didn’t even exist, there were other creatures, too strong and powerful to adapt with the existence of humans. So, when humans fell to earth, these creatures began killing havoc and killing any human in sight. They were almost unkillable and the only way at that time to get rid of them was to banish them to a place where they don’t come in contact with humans. The idea of creating a different world for them started; at first it sounded impossible but a group of witches banded together and created different realms. Now, the Blood Moon spell can allow a witch to open these gates.”
Lorraine nodded her head slowly, trying to process all the information she got. It was Cedric who spoke first, “So, Stella wanted to become powerful, she needed the vnacsura grimoire to get the spell, that much I get. But how is The Brotherhood involved in any of this?”
“The spell was intended for Stella, however Victoria became the one in control and decided that she would be the one to open the portal. Their plan was to make a deal with one of the creatures, a demon, similar to what could have happened all that time ago. Victoria knew she couldn’t stand against a Vancsura on her own, so she decided to use the help of The Brotherhood of The sun.” Father Wilmut gave Cedric a knowing look, “You know how they live and breathe to free their master.”
“And the Vancsura grimoire is the way to do that.” Lorraine concluded then she turned to Cedric, “That’s why she sent you that human who told you about the resurrection spell. She knew you would make me open the box containing the grimoire.” She shook her head, “She’s been playing us all!”
Wilmut nodded his head, “Unfortunately, it seems that way.”
“But why did it have to be me? Why not Raymond Brown? He’s a Vancsura as well.” Lorraine asked with knitted eyebrows.
“Vancsura women are known to be more powerful, the grimoire becomes more powerful, its magic becomes more potent the stronger the blood it devours. That’s why the wood of the “Maiden Eater'' was used.” Wilmut explained. “She used the trust you’ve placed in Cedric and used his love for Darla to put her plan into motion.”
“They must have the grimoire by now.” Cedric started with gritted teeth.
Wilmut nodded his head, “That’s why Stella came to find me. She wanted me to tell her where Victoria hid it. She said she no longer wanted the spell done, that she came to understand how dangerous it can be.”
“And you don’t know where it is?” Lorraine asked.
Wilmut shook his head, “I can’t see where it is. Perhaps it’s beyond where the area of my sight extends, or she found a spell to hide herself from my sight, which is very difficult for a witch of her powers.”
“We have to get the grimoire back.” Cedric stated.
Lorraine gave a nod, she had a thoughtful look on her face, “Maybe…” She trailed, “Maybe we can play her game as well.” When the two looked at her with confused eyes, she resumed. “I mean she used The Brotherhood as her muscle, so why don’t we do the same? You said they only want to free their master, and she’s not going to do it. So, if we somehow manage to explain that to them, they would turn against her.”
Both Cedric and Wilmut knew that her idea sounded logical, but how they would get around it was the question. Cedric knew they must offer them something, a promise of returning their master and just thinking about him brought a wave of anger to Cedric. *“Erik cannot come back.”* He thought sternly.
