123- One year later

“So? How is it?”

One Year Later

“Allen, you need to let her swallow first,” Grady says.
Amused, I chew on the huge piece of the green chili smothered burrito, garnished with swirls of shredded cheese, beans, and beef tucked into the tortilla wrap. The flavors burst in my mouth and although I know Allen is waiting, his gaze is sparkling with excitement at what my comment will be, I take my time in responding.
His wife, Meredith is amused at the both of us as she rocks her baby in her arms, and at our never ending comparisons between the Tex-Mex and the smothered chili.
Today and finally, he is getting the chance to wow me and put the argument of which is the better burrito to rest.
He should know however, that I’m not going to concede so easily. The bite is like an orgasm in my mouth, but I try all I can to keep a straight face, much to Grady’s amusement.
He’s a small distance away from me with Hazel in his arm, and the other grilling our carefully marinated chicken. He is the one who suggested this early evening poolside gathering with family- himself and Allen’s family and of course, Lee Rang’s but they are yet to arrive.
I eventually swallow the burrito and calmly brush my hair across my shoulder. “I know that look,” Allen says. “You’re about to lie.”
Grady’s laughter resounds from across the garden.
I can’t help but yell out at him. “Stop, he’s going to think I’m actually lying.”

“You can’t do that, it’s foul play,” Allen accuses. “And for fuck’s sake, can you just admit that Denver’s burrito beats Texas’s, hands down.”
“I won’t,” I shake my head and rise to my feet. With a smile, I start to walk away but then remember my plate.
Allen however, has already grabbed it.
I snatch it back from him before he can eat it. “That’s mine, sir,” I say. He scowls at me, much to his wife’s amusement.
I can’t wait for us to be done with dinner, so we can all take a dip in the penthouse’s pool. It’s an especially beautiful evening with the space overlooking the setting sun and Denver’s panoramic skyline. I give Grady a quick kiss when I get to him and quickly mutter my truth, “That is the best damn burrito I’ve ever had in my life.”
He laughs out and readily accepts the bite that I give to him.
“What did she say Grady?” Allen calls out. “She admitted it didn’t she?” “Nope, she says it tastes terrible.”
I kiss him again for the support and continue with my plate as he grills his chicken. “Hazel, go over to your mom,” he says and lets the little girl down.
I watch her go, my heart filled to bursting at her unstable steps as she returns to her parents. Then my eyes light up when I see that Lee Rang and her husband have arrived.
Grady puts his tongs down, and then retrieves something from his pocket. “I’m thinking of telling Allen the truth,” he says.
I turn from waving at my sister, as I’m shocked at the threat of betrayal. “What?” “It all depends on how you respond to what I’m about to ask you.”
I know he’s playing with me, but I also know him well enough to realize he is also deadly serious at the same time and just a bit nervous. I also note the little rooftop garden has gone quiet, so I turn to see that both Allen, Meredith, along with Lee Rang are watching us with wide smiles on their faces. “What’s going on…“ I pause as my gaze drops downward.
My heart is in my throat at the sight before me. “Oh, my God!” A half scream leaves my lips.
Grady is on his knee and in his hand is an opened box, revealing a sparkling diamond ring.

I can’t breathe. “Grady?”
“Blair,” he says. “I never expected you and I didn’t even know that I needed you. But this past year with you in my life, has brought me happiness that I didn’t even know was possible. Please do me the honor of marrying me? I love you from the depths of my soul, and I promise to do my very best to show this to you every single day for the rest of my life.”
My eyes burn with such tears that I can barely see him. Until I blink and they come rolling down my cheeks. I nod my head, unable to speak.
The cheers erupt seemingly from everywhere.
He rises back to his feet, slips the beautiful ring onto my finger, and pulls me into his arms for the warmest, most loving hug.
“Yes,” I respond, finally able to speak. “Yes. Yes. Yes I’ll marry you. I love you Grady, with all my heart.”
He pulls away from me, his eyes sparkling.
‘’ You’re the single greatest thing that ever happened to me Blair. ’ I crush my lips to his.
“To forever,” Meredith calls out from the table. “To love,” Lee Rang calls out.
“To telling the truth,” Allen toasts. Grady and I get lost in each other.
