Chapter 35

Haidar Jega

After Lailahs prayers were done with. I had to run to the hospital. I was in a good mood today and all I wanted to do was to see how Adhiva's mother's condition was and get it done with. When I got to the hospital, I immediately phoned Adhiva. "Hello, Miss. Adhiva, what room are you and your mother in?" I asked her over the phone.

"Hello Dr. Haidar, it's room 36," She said happily.

"Okay, I'll be right there," I said before hanging up. I took a deep breath before heading for the room, it was on the third floor so I decided to make use of the elevator. I was about to step in when a fair lady immediately bumped into me while trying to rush in.

"Are you blind or something? Is the elevator running away?" I barked at her. She eyed me from head to toe gently.

"I'm sorry Mr man, I was only In a hurry," She said bluntly.

"Nonsense" I hissed and walked into the elevator and so did she. We maintained our distance. She kept scrolling through her phone while I kept insulting her in my mind. She was a prideful young lady, how disgusting.

When the elevator had paused, she was about to go out hurriedly when I walked past her with haste. Making her nearly fall to the ground, I didn't say too sorry to her when I heard her gasp. She deserved it. I then sashayed my way towards the room Adhiva had told me about over the phone.

Getting closer to the room, I heard a step behind me. I turned around to find the rude lady from the elevator. "Are you following me?" I raised a brow in a question.

"Of course not, why would I?." She hissed. "That is my mother's room"'she said.

"Adhiva" I called her name calmly. She looked shocked before placing her palm over her mouth.

"Oh my God, Dr. Haidar. Shit!" She said and I chuckled. "I'm so sorry about my behavior earlier," She said hastily. I smiled.

"It's nothing, sometimes people like I deserve that," I said. She opened the door to her mother's room. We both walked in. I saw a lady who looked like she was in her early forties laying on the bed with a bandage on her neck.

"The doctor said it's a miracle she's still breathing, despite still having a bullet in the neck." She said.

"They always say that, until the person dies," I said absentmindedly.

"What?" She sounded confused.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean your mum. I lost someone very special in this same manner, she was shot on the neck as well." I said.

"Oh, but my mum won't die. Will she?"
She asked worriedly. I chuckled.

"I don't know, but I'll do everything in my power to make sure that she survives. Okay?" I said to her and she nodded.

"How old is your mum?" I asked her.

"She's forty-six years old." She said.

"Okay, I need you to go call me a nurse, tell her we need to take a patient to the theater, she'll know what do from there. I'll take the bullet out today. I promise"
I said and she nodded happily.

"Okay, I'll go get a nurse" The girl immediately scurried away like a little child. I chuckled. My attention drifted back to her mother, I examined her body and took deep breaths. I immediately checked her pulse and they were weak. She was running out of time.

Adhiva soon returned with a nurse and a ward boy who helped us wheel her mother towards the operation theater. I immediately got dressed and called for two extra doctors who were quick to show up because they were already in the hospital.

"Doctor Haidar, My king. It's nice seeing you back here." Doctor Charlotte said. I chuckled.

"Nice seeing you too Charlotte," I said. Whilst putting on my medical gloves. We examined the neck before beginning the operation. I took my time to understand where the bullet was hanging in her neck. It was complicated indeed but I tried my best to find a way to take it out.

After about an hour, I was able to take it out. All the doctors and nurses in the room were shocked. After we were done stitching her neck. I walked out of the operation theater to find Adhiva sitting with her eyes closed. I chuckled.

"Hey!" I said and she immediately jolted up.

"Oh my God. You are out. How's my mother?. How did it go?" She asked excitedly. She knew from the smile on my face that it went well.

"Your mother is out of danger now. She has been wheeled back into her room, you can go see her!" I said. She happily mouthed praises to Allah. I smiled.

"Okay Miss Adhiva, my work here is done. If any matter arises, you have my number. Just give me a call" I said and she nodded happily. She didn't waste time scampering away. I chuckled as I watched her figure run. She looked like she had won another chance at life. I could only wish it was Lailah who was alive today. I wish I had performed her operation myself, maybe she would have been alive. But then these were just mere thoughts, she was destined to die.

I immediately dashed out of the hospital and sat in the backseat with Jabar in front. "Jabar, take me to my mother's house please," I said to him.

"Which one?" He asked, I chuckled.

"The one that gave birth to me."
I said and he smiled. It wasn't his fault he was confused, I call lailahs mum my mum as well. It was a thirty minutes drive from the hospital to my mum's new house. She couldn't leave in her ex-husband's house. Yes Ex, my mum couldn't be with the man who wanted to kill her son.

After we got to the house, I dashed out immediately and so did Jabar. We will be spending a night over here.

When we got to the front door, I knocked and the beautiful face of my sister, Fatima welcomed me.

"Bruhhhhhh" she engulfed me in a hug.

"Kiddo, how are you?" I ruffled her hair playfully. She greeted Jabar shyly, probably because her hair was left open. We all walked into the house and there my mum was, seated majestically on a couch with the remote in her palms as Arewa24 showcased on the television screen.

"Asalamualaikum mumy," I said. She turned and looked at me happily before getting up and engulfing me in a warm hug. I hugged her back passionately, I missed my mother a lot. When I found out her husband had killed my dad, I hated her for a bit but I couldn't just hold a grudge, she was my mother after all.
