We reached the south the next day and docked at a small village. By then, I was very hungry and tired.
This place was like a hub where different packs mingled and traded with each other.
I had no money or any other valuable item on me to trade with anymore, so I had to swallow my pride and offer myself to a random rich stranger. I gave him head in exchange for ten silver coins.
I bought some food and a bottle of strong wine with some of the money. When I was satisfied and full of energy again, I began my journey into the woods.

“Yes?” She said with a raised eyebrow. “Who are you and how did you find this place?”

“Did he tell you to meet him here?”

“I’m not living with a Lycan, if that’s what you’re thinking,” she said. “I live alone but one temporary roommate wouldn’t hurt, right?”
I smiled gratefully and entered the cabin when she opened the door wider. The place was tidy and scantily furnished.
“Thank you for inviting me in,” I said after she had locked the front door.
“Sure,” she said. “Come and have a sit.”
We sat on the only couch in the cabin. It was soft and comfy.
“So, what have you been up to since you left the Highlands?” She asked.
“Well, life has tossed me here and there, and now, I’m here.”
“I heard you had a child back then. Where is he now?”
As always, the mention of Domarius got me emotional. I struggled to speak and blinked back the tears that entered my eyes.
“What is it?” Sasha asked me softly. “Did something happen to him?”
I nodded slowly. “He died,” I whispered.
“Oh!” She gasped. “I am so sorry to hear that.”
“He was poisoned by my cousin. The same one that sold me into slavery and took my place while I was gone.”
“That’s awful.”
“Well, she got served too. She died horribly during a surprise raid two years ago. I wish I could have been to witness it and laugh in her face as she drew her last breath.”
Sasha laughed. “You used to be a nice girl.”
“Not anymore. Nice girls always get the short end of the stick.”
“No truer words have been said,” Sasha laughed. “I like the new you.”
“Thank you,” I said with a smile and wiped away my tears. “What about you? What have you been up to? When did you leave the Highland palace?”
She sighed deeply. “Sometime last year. I had spent several months in the pack hospital and once I was fully recovered, I escaped.”
“Oh… what happened to you?”
“I got pregnant with Alpha Jaxon’s child. When he found out, he was mad. He said it was an insult that a Gamma, the lowest of all werewolves, would carry his seed.
“I was stupid. I should have kept the news to myself and found a way to escape from the palace while my baby was still inside me. But I opened my big mouth and told the Alpha because I thought it would earn me some special treatment.
“Instead, he beat me till I nearly died. I lost the baby and lost my womb too.”
“My goodness!” I gasped in horror. “That is so awful. I’m so sorry for your loss.”
She sniffled and wiped her eyes. “Well, that’s in the past now. I successfully escaped and found my way here. It took me months to put this place together while I worked in the village as a housekeeper and laundry woman.”
“That’s amazing,” I said, impressed with her story.
“But I don’t have to work anymore. I have my small farm in the back and I fish in the river. I have everything I want here.”

“Thanks,” she smiled. “You can stay here for a few days, you know. It’s nice to have another person around so I don’t have to talk to myself all the time anymore.”
