Chapter 21

Kylie's POV
After I went to clean up as much as I could, I went to brew some coffee for both Mark and Kelvin.
I was not at the best mood to be honest. My first day at work was total crap and to top it all off, I was smelling like I went for a swim in coffee.
This was all Mark's fault. That stupid, handsome, asshole. Well, technically, it was my fault for not watching my way but only because he had humiliated me.
Once the coffee was ready, precisely to the requirements of my dear boss, I went back to the 40th floor.
Just when the elevator opened, I heard shouting. And it was coming from Mark's office.
As I got closer it got eerily quiet then I opened the door and saw Mark practically about to punch the living day lights out of Kelvin
"Am I interrupting something?" I asked, cautiously walking into the room.
Both their heads snapped towards me. At first, neither one of them uttered a single word, then Mark released Kelvin from his grasp rather roughly.
"Not at all," he said cooly, returning to his seat.
"Did you remake my coffee?"
I mentally rolled my eyes at his dumb attempt to pretend that they weren't just about to fight. I walked to his desk and placed his coffee on it.
"Here it is, dark and hot." Like your soul, I wanted to add.
Then I turned to Kelvin and extended the other coffee I had made to him.
"Here you go. I wasn't sure how you liked your coffee so I put cream and sugar in it."
He grinned.
"Thanks, Kylie. That's exactly how I like my coffee. Creamy and sweet." He reached out to take the mug, brushing my hand in the process.
I'm not going to lie, I felt a tingly sensation when he did that. I could feel a small blush creeping to my face.
"If you two don't mind, I would like to get back to work here, you too Miss Carter. Hunt, get the hell out of my building right now before I have your ass flat on the side walk." He barked, sending daggers our way.
I looked at him incredulously. I was going to give him a piece of my mind but decided against it.
I turned to Kelvin. "Let me walk you out-"
"No. You are staying."
Have you ever felt the overwhelming urge to strangle somebody? That's how I was feeling.
"You heard your boss, I best be going. It was simply a pleasure making your acquaintance, Kylie. I hope I have the good fortune of seeing you again." Kelvin said, then kissed my cheek. He then whispered,
"You look great in my blazer, by the way." Then he turned to leave.
Is it me, or was he flirting with me. Gosh, I'm acting like a goddamned teenager!!!! For a second there, I forgot where I was and who's presence I was in.
And his pissed demeanor was back. But just what is his frigging problem?
"You have wasted enough time today and I am not impressed." He began. "Anyhow, you should go back to your station and study my schedule this week. Every single detail must be tattooed in that pretty little head of yours."
I nodded then also turned to leave.
"Also, I forbid you from ever making contact with Kelvin Hunt."
I stopped walking.
"What did you say?"
"You heard me. Don't ever use that tone with me again."
His steel eyes were boring into mine, as if sending me a signal of their own.
"Just do as I say."
I scoffed.
"I will use whatever tone I want with you, especially if you are dictating my life for me,. Who are you to tell me that?" I snarled, acidly.
"Well, Mr Johnson, I will talk to whoever the fuck I want and whenever I want. If you have a problem with it, you can go fuck yourself." And with that, I stormed out of his office.
This was a terrific way to start off my first day at work.
Finally, it was time to go home. I really thought being Mark's assistant was as hard as hell but it's actually not that bad. Just doing paperwork, running a few errands, answering calls, making calls, reminding him about meetings etc. If I'm not considering the few stares I got, it was pretty good.
After I flew out of his office, we had not spoken, except about work related things. I was still majorly pissed at his high handedness but I needed to keep my cool, for the sake of professionalism.
I went into Mark's office to tell him I was leaving.
I was so glad I could finally go home and strip out of these sticky clothes!"Okay, it's time anyway. Micheal is waiting for you downstairs."
I said a small thank you then walked out. But before I did, I heard something weird.
"Good job today." He voiced lowly, as if he didn't want me to hear it.
That put a smile on my face. It's just good to be appreciated.
Wasting no further time, I grabbed my belongings, Mark's schedule and dashed downstairs to where Micheal was parked.
He smiled at me sweetly.
"Ready to go?" He asked, once I was in the Escalade.
"Yep." I replied, popping the 'P'.
"So, how was your day?" He said, trying to make small talk.
He brought the engine to life and swerved smoothly into the New York traffic.
I shrugged.
"It was okay, minus Mark's behavior. By any chance, is he on his period?" I asked and he laughed. Only if he knew that I wasn't kidding.
"Mr Johnson is a difficult boss, but he has a heart of gold. Don't write him off just yet."
"Until tomorrow, Miss Carter."
Before I knew it, we were in front of my building. Woah, that was a quick ride. Damn, he is an excellent driver.
"Same time tomorrow?"
"Yes. See ya Micheal."
Oh yeah, I have work tomorrow. I am so not looking forward to it….
At 7 a.m on the dot, I was jumping out of the Escalade. Today I was feeling particularly confident, probably because I was rocking Sara's clothes.
The blue linen blouse and black pencil skirt, matched with some black pumps I found at the back of my closet, was honestly a good outfit.
When I stepped into the building, I was greeted by the unpleasant stares of my fellow workmates. The one that stood out the most was Cicilia's.
I could already feel my blood boiling. And for some odd reason I felt self conscious. Maybe my outfit was too provocative.
"The whore has arrived." She yelled, and everyone in the lobby chuckled.
My Mr Ex
