Chapter 25
Kylie's POV
I was seated at my desk, typing a new contract for Mr Matthew, as per the orders of my dear boss. It was already 10 a.m on a Friday!
"Good morning, darling." Said someone, in a very familiar British accent.
Did I also mention that Mark wasn't here?
My heart beat sped up a bit. I didn't need to look up. I already knew who it was, but the question was how the hell did he get back here?
"Kelvin…what are you doing here?" I blurted, my eyes meshing with his green orbs.
He tsked.
"You don't sound very happy to see me. And to think I even brought you flowers." He sang, then placed tulips on my desk.
I oogled them like they were a new species being observed under a microscope. Gosh, my social awkwardness is manifesting again!
I took them and then sniffed the beautiful tulips. They smelled sweet. Nobody had given me flowers in a while.
"Thanks. So, what are you doing here?" I asked again, putting the flowers aside. "Better yet, how did you get in here? Last time I checked, Mark banned you from setting foot in here…"
He smiled mischievously and he looked truly evil whilst doing it.
"I have my ways. That idiot isn't going to keep me away from a pretty thing like yourself." I blushed at his words, I don't often get compliments.
"As to why I'm here, I know the devil you call a boss isn't in, so I just wanted to drop by and ask you to join me for dinner sometime."
I was kind of taken aback. A date?
"A-a date?" I stammered unceremoniously.
He nodded.
"Yes a date. Since the moment I laid my eyes on you, I've been thinking about you non stop. One might say I'm deeply infatuated by you."
Deep down I knew if I said no, he would keep on bugging me. On the other hand, what would Mark think?
To hell with what that prick thinks. You should learn to live on the edge.
My inner voice was right, I should start living dangerously and shift from this mundane routine I've been living. How bad could it be, right?
I grinned at him.
"I would love that. How does tomorrow night sound?" I purred, batting my eyelashes a bit. Yep, the tigress is out of the cage.
"Wonderful." He clapped.
"Wear something sexy. Show those glorious curves off. I'll pick you up at 8."
I nodded, and after a wink he evaporated. Good thing I was getting my pay check today, then I could buy a dress or something for tomorrow.
"I better get back to work!" I chided myself, then resumed my impending duties.
Today I had quite a load of work to do, since Mark was out at yet another meeting with Mr Matthew going over some last minute details. He would be back around 12.
My list of duties included finishing this contract, running some copies, going to the architecture division to check if they had come up with blue prints for Mr Matthew's new apartment complex. As I said, I would be very occupied today.
I let myself drown in my work. I was working between floors and slowly, I could feel my legs giving out.
About 3 hours later, I was seated back at my desk. A few minutes later, Mark arrived.
He looked so dashing, with his dark brown hair jelled to perfection. The suit he was wearing hugged his toned body like second skin.
"Didn't your mother tell you it is rude to stare?" He jested, his eyes emitting smugness. He had seen me gawking at him.
I rolled my eyes, in a poor attempt to hide the blush that had crept up my face. "Good afternoon, sir." I said, averting my attention to the computer screen.
"I'm assuming the meeting went well?"
He walked towards my desk, and stood in front of it. He looked down at me. "Very well. How has been your day?"
Now that's something I never thought I would here. He wanted to know how my day was!
I looked up at his shiny silver pools with confusion etched on my face.
"Are you high or what?" I asked seriously. This politeness was queer.
He smiled, but I could tell it was forced. "Just making small talk."
His eyes maneuvered over to the flowers that where at the corner of my table. Shit, I forgot to put them away.
Oh oh!
"Who gave you those flowers?" He asked, his fake smile still intact.
"My neighbor." I replied far too quickly, avoiding his eyes. Mark knew me so well and I bet he could already tell I was lying.
"I didn't know that Kelvin Hunt was your neighbour."
I froze. How the heck?
"How did you know he gave me those?" I asked, my brow rising to the ceiling in question.
He laughed richly but with a hint of anger.
"You don't think I know what happens in this whole fucking building? Why didn't you tell him to leave?" He barked, his eyes now filled with rage.
I stood up abruptly.
"You should be asking your stupid guards why they let him in! I am not to blame here."
"Yes you are." He spat.
"I already warned you about Hunter. He is a no good bastard. Stay away from him."
I looked him dead in the eye.
"You heard me. I am going out with him tomorrow, and you aren't going to stop me. I am not your child, and I am not your wife anymore. You don't own me." I spat, acidly.
He stood still for a second, then two then a couple more.
"What?" He said lowly, yet so menacingly.
"How will I do that if he's already taking me out on a date?" I found myself saying and immediately regretted it.
I expected it to end there, but man was I wrong. The next moment I found my arm being grabbed and him dragging me to his office. I couldn't stop him, he was far too strong.
Once inside, he slammed the door hard and then pushed me onto it. His hands shot up to either side of my head, holding me prisoner. With his proximity, I could smell his entrancing cologne.
"You are wrong about one thing, I do own you. I've owned you for a long time now, you just didn't know it. How do you explain why you're trembling so hard right now?" He said, and he was right. "Your body is used to only one man, and that man is me! No matter what you do, you will always belong to me. Your heart only beats form me." He grabbed my chin roughly, so my eyes would meet his flamming ones.
"You will never get over me."
Then his lips came down on mine.
