Chapter 31

Mark's POV
I followed her pained expression as she glanced at the red dress. It was difficult to ignore the fast rhythmic beating of my heart at the thought of the first day she had worn that dress. I had bought her the dress on our first Valentines together which was literally a week after we secretly got married in Seychelles away from the prying eyes of the rest of the world. She had wanted a low- key wedding which was one of the things that had made me fall deeper in love with her. Most people would have jumped at the opportunity to have the most expensive wedding of the era
"Good choice," her words drew me out of my small wonderland as I stared at her in confusion
I had only made the suggestion to revive the love she once had for me or at least piss her off just to evoke a damn emotion out of her. She had been pretending not to care since the first day I arrived at her place and it was my mission to remind her of how she had been all over me a few years back
"Now you can get out of my room," she deadpanned, a cold expression laid on her face
"Of course. It would be my pleasure," I stood up matching out of the room just in time to see Luke's head peek as he climbed the stairs
"Hey man. Do you know what band is playing tonight?" I asked Luke
"She is a fan of country songs?" I asked curiously
"It's a local band called the youngsters. They'll be performing some country songs. Kylie and I are huge fans of country songs and I guess that's what makes us even more compatible," he grinned
"Oh yeah. We have been to almost all the country song concerts together,
"Good for you," I grinned, not because I was happy for him but because of how stupid he was to think Kylie liked country songs.
I began descending the flight of stairs the grin permanently fixed on my face. The Kylie I knew hated country songs well except for one that didn't exactly sound like a country song but more of a slow RNB. Suddenly an idea struck me as I plummeted on the coach crossing one left leg over the other. A few calls later and I was grinning like an idiot.
"How do I look?" I turned to look at Julia twirling around for me to see
"You look ravishing," this wasn't a lie
As a matter of fact the word ravishing didn't quiet describe her looks at the moment. She smiled as she walked to sit right next to me a sad look slipping on her face.
"What is wrong?" I inquired staring half- interested at her
"It's Kylie," All my nerves were suddenly working overtime
"Did something happen to her?
"I don't see the problem in that, so why the long face?
"No. She is finally going to open up to Daniel about her ex-husband," As if I was going to let that happen
"Am scared this might not go well for her," this only served to pique my interest
"And why not?
"Earlier this morning after we came from shopping she confided to me that she was still in love with her ex-husband. She hates the fact that her ex has already moved on with someone new even though she hopes he will one day come back for her," she shrugged fiddling with her fingers.
"Really? She told you that?" it was really difficult not sound thrift at the good news
"Yeah. I have no idea on how to help her. If she tells Luke the truth then it's going to be a two way traffic, either she will lose Luke or she will get over her ex completely. If she loses Luke, he will be hurt. Poor lukeyy. He really loves her a lot. I have seen how he looks at her like she is the most precious thing in the world. I can tell he is the perfect Mr. Right for her and whoever her ex is he doesn't deserve to be loved by anyone, don't you agree? I mean what kind of an animal is he to treat a lady like that?" she stated unaware of the tight squeeze in my gut
"Don't those two look just compatible?" I raised my head to stare at the couple descending down the stairs
Luke was dressed in suit that I had no idea what label it was but I was pretty much sure it was from some local tailor. When my eyes shifted to take in Kylie I felt my heartbeat quicken but not because she looked breathtaking but because I was angry. She wore that dress-my dress. It was a light pink strapless dress with golden ends complemented with a golden belt and a golden embroidery at the edges. It revealed a sizeable amount of creamy flesh without making her appear too nude, just enough to make me want to rip it off. That had been the dress she wore the first night I had taken her hard while she screamed my name. Clenching my fist I tried to make my rage subside but it was no use.
"How do I look Betty?" she suddenly queried
"Gorgeous. What do you think Mark?" Dammit
Kylie shifted a triumphic smirk towards me challenge written in her eyes. I had to admit she had won but she was only going to celebrate that small victory while it lasted
"Lovely," I replied simply with little hint of emotion on my face
"Okay. Let's get going then," Luke saved the situation
As arranged we arrived at the Music showground into two separate cars. The girls drove in Kylie's white Audi A3 while Luke and I arrived in his blue BMW. All throughout the journey Luke would not shut up about Kylie I wound up an arm around Betty's waist. We were almost going in when Betty pulled me back all of a sudden.
"What is wrong?" I was startled to be honest
"Am scared Mark,
"Is somebody threatening you?" I was in the all protective boyfriend mode
"No. Kylie said she will tell me the truth about her ex-husband tomorrow and yet somehow this bothers me. I don't know why but am scared of the truth. It feels like if she tells me the truth I'm going to lose something precious," with her large blue eyes staring at me like a scared cat I felt my own heart melt a little
