Chapter 28.
GABRIELLE.
Layla walked hurriedly into my office and with the look on her face, I had a feeling she was about to tell me something I wouldn't like very much.
"What is it, Layla?!" I snap harshly at her.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but they're some strange men here to see you." She said, and I frowned.
"Strange men? Did they mention who they are or why they're here?" I asked.
"No, they didn't miss. They only asked to see you personally and they claim it's important." She replied and I contemplated on whether to let them in.
"You can let them in but make sure you're alert just in case." I told her and she nodded quickly before walking out briskly.
Two large looking men walk into my office a few minutes later and I can most definitely confirm that I do not know who they are. They even seem pretty scary and they also had this dangerous aura around them coupled with the dark look on their faces and their scary facial expressions.
"Good afternoon gentlemen. How may I help you?" I asked calmly, trying not to tick them off for whatever reason cause they don't seem like your normal regular people.
"We should apologize for just barging in like this miss but what we have to say is important so, we'll get straight to the point." The taller one said before rudely taking a seat without any show of manners.
"I think before you tell me anything, I need to know who you are first cause I don't think we've ever met before." I replied and they both stared at each other briefly before staring back at me.
"You may not remember us but we remember you, miss. You ran into us a few nights ago at your place, remember?" The other guy with him finally spoke up and to be honest, both guys were really getting to me.
They both had this creepy vibe that's scaring the shit out of me and their expressions and the way they talk are not helping matters.
"We met at my place? Why would any of you be at my place? Who let you in?" I asked.
"Listen miss, since we're not here to beat around the bush, here's a brief summary about us and your business with us. I'm Lan and this other dude over here is my partner, Chris. Personally, you're not the one who has business with us, it's your mother and she hired us to get rid of some lanky guy that she said was bothering her not too long ago." Lan explained and I'm a little confused at first till it finally clicked.
I should have known they were the ones but since I only happened to come across them in the dark a few nights ago, I'm guessing that's why they looked unfamiliar.
"Okay, let's just say that yes, we happen to have come across each other before, why are you both here then? You just said that you have no personal business with me but with my mother so why are you here?" I questioned impatiently, wondering why two criminals who have zero business with me would decide to come all the way to my office.
"We were sent here by your mother. She insisted that we should take our next orders from you regarding what to do with that guy." Chris replied this time and I let out a shaky sigh.
What kind of crazy stunt is mom trying to pull with me? Why would she send two hired killers to take orders from me when I already told her I want no personal interaction with any of her hoodlums?
"Well, he's alive, isn't he? Which means you both failed to get the job done. Do you really need me to tell you what to do next?" I hissed sharply at them and they both smirked simultaneously.
"Your mother asked us to make sure the accident seemed very deliberate and she says that you should know what to do now that we achieved what she ordered." Chris said and I'm momentarily very confused.
"Wait, so you're telling me that you weren't ordered to kill Martin?" I ask.
"Our orders were to cause an obviously deliberate accident. Whether or not he died from it was absolutely none of our business. We just had to make sure the police got involved and that they investigate the murder attempt." Lan explained and I honestly wasn't expecting that.
So if mom's plan wasn't originally to kill Martin, what exactly did she want? Why would she want to keep that idiot alive and why would she want to make it obvious that someone tried to kill Martin?
Different thoughts and options start to flood through my mind and that's when it all started to make sense.
"Okay, now I understand you two but for now, I don't want you both to do anything. Just lay low for a while and you can help me keep an eye on my sister till I figure out what to do with her. Understood?" I told them quickly, getting ready to leave the office to find out where the hell mom is and understand what the hell she's up to.
"Understood miss. We'll keep in touch." Chris replied and they both stood immediately and without saying one more word, they left.
****
REBECCA.
The minute Gabrielle barged into my office, I knew my men had gotten in touch with her. Ever since I told her what happened with her father, she and I have barely said a word to each other and since I can not afford to lose my daughter, I had to come up with something we both had very dire interest in.
"Mom, we need to talk." She announced the minute she walked in without even bothering to at least say a greeting.
"I'm surprised you came to me, Elle. I thought that at the rate at which you were going, you'd never speak to me again," I hissed back at her with a petty look on my face and she rolled her eyes boredly, as if completely uninterested in what I just said.
"Don't get started with that mom. I know for a fact that you know why I'm here so why don't you just drop the act and tell me why in the world you didn't aim to kill that idiot Martin?" She asked snappily, diving straight to the purpose of her visit.
"Don't tell me you still don't know why? I thought by now you'd at least have an idea as to why I would waste a good opportunity to get rid of an obstacle," I replied to her and from the look on her face, she already had an idea in her head and although she may not know exactly why, I had a feeling she knew it had to do with her sister.
"Listen mom, I am trying very hard here to get things back on track and I might not know what kind of sick game you're playing here but what I know for a fact is that it could come right back at us and become an even bigger problem so here's my advice to you, let's get rid of Martin once and for all and then we can think of better ways to get rid of Gabriella! We don't need to use Martin for that," she blurted out desperately, obviously afraid of the thought of Martin waking up.
"That is where you're wrong my dear. We do need Martin and listen, it's not like I didn't want that bastard killed, he just happens to be a very lucky man and at the end of the day, whether or not he dies is still going to work in my favor. You would have known all this by now, if you didn't stubbornly start to assume stupid things on your own."
"Listen carefully Elle, I could have chosen Gabriella because just in case you haven't noticed, she is very easy to manipulate but like I always say, I've always hated that child and nothing in the world would have made me pick her over you. So stop with all your tantrums and let's get to work. We need to have Elite in under a week and I happen to know just how we can do that," I said to her, earning a bored expression from her.
"Okay fine, let's just say I let go of my anger over my, I still stand by it, very accurate assumptions, what now? How are we going to get Elite back and how do you plan on keeping Martin mute forever?" She asked impatiently.
"It's simple Elle. Someone tried to kill Martin and for someone to try to kill him, it's either one of two things to the police at the moment. Firstly, they'll assume the murderer wants something from the victim or secondly, they'll assume the murderer has issues with him. Now think about it, is there anyone around Martin who is most likely to be suspected of having a motive to murder him?" I asked and she paused to think for a while before replying.
"Okay mom, I think I know where you're getting at but I don't think Ella can be the only possible suspect. I mean, Martin's family is a well known and respected family here in the States and we both know that in the business world, his father has a lot of enemies. Anyone of them could have decided to get back at him by killing his only child," she blurted out and I knew she had a point.
"The truth is, you have a point there but do you really think I didn't think this through? My original plan was to get Martin to sign over half his properties to Gabriella and that everything would end up going to her if anything ever happens to him and I even prepared legal documents for that but guess what, Martin ended up doing it himself!" I said to her as a loud laugh erupted from my lips and she stared back at me with a confused expression.
"I'm really not understanding what exactly you find so hilarious," she hissed, obviously irritated but I ignored the rude thing.
"Martin gave everything he has on earth to Gabriella himself and he also happened to have transferred everything to her on the very day he got into the accident. So you see, everything ended up working in our favor and Martin has indirectly helped us to get your sister out of the way," I explained and her face fell.
"He gave her everything? Wow, just wow! How come she gets to have the best kinds of people in the world around her? I mean, what kind of a lucky bitch is she?" Gabrielle hissed and I could already sense the intense jealousy.
"Well, she might be lucky with her friends, but she's most definitely not lucky in life. That sister of yours has to be the most unfortunate person on this planet and sometimes, I feel bad for being her mother," I said to her calmly.
Most people would wonder why I was so against my very own child and sometimes, even I wonder why I just can not bring myself to care about her. Ever since she was born, I've loathed her for reasons I cannot even explain and the fact that she is just like her father, made me even more hateful towards her.
"So mom, let me get this straight. Gabriella is going to jail for the attempted murder of Martin but I'm still wondering how that helps me get my company from her," she voiced out.
"You just wait and see what happens my dear. The only thing we have to worry about now is what to do with Martin when he wakes up. We won't be able to kill him after he wakes or else then, the police will realize that Ella was framed so we'll need to find a way to keep his mouth shut," I explained trying to think of an idea on what to do with him.
"You can leave the rest to me then. I'll figure it out myself. The only thing I'm after is getting Elite to myself and you're hearing this from me now because I plan on going forward with my interest once Ella is in prison. I like Liam Helton and I want him for myself. Have a nice day," she blurted out very quickly and my eyes grew two times wider when I realized the last part of what she said.
"You like who again?" I yelled after her but she didn't even bother to repeat herself. She simply walks out of the office without even attempting to properly explain her words, leaving me completely stunned and furious.
"What am I supposed to tell Anita now?" I wondered out loud to myself as different thoughts on how to stop Elle's madness starts to cloud my mind.
