Chapter Nine - Was it a trick?
Samael Wulf
I was shocked to see Kali. I wanted to know what she was doing here, how she got out, and why she was so different. Every ounce of her screamed innocence and purity. I had no idea what had happened, or what Selene was playing at. Was it a trick? Magic maybe? What did Selene have to gain by bringing her back here? I needed answers, and quickly, before my brain exploded from all the theories swimming around in it.
“What the fuck is going on?” I demanded an answer from Selene.
With a sly grin on her face she walked over to the couch opposite me and sat down. She patted the seat next to her and Kali made her way over and sat down. Selene opened her mouth to speak but was quickly interrupted by my office phone. She rolled her eyes before nodding towards the phone. I sighed and got up to answer it.
“Hello… really? Crap. Okay I’ll let her know right away. Thank you for the warning Traian. Goodbye.”
“What does that traitorous son of the devil want?”
“You need to leave Selene.”
She laughed at me and shook her head, “No can do, Sammy. We have plans to perfect.”
I sat back on the couch and stared her right in the eye. I didn’t really want to tell her what her son had said. To be honest I could have said nothing and let the stupid bitch get herself killed, but I had no idea how strong Freya was. I knew Selene was weak, but she had connections, and until I could work out what had happened to Kali, I didn’t want to risk Freya's safety. Also, with Selene and Kali here, my brood would fight beside them, I would have a lot of explaining to do if I chose to take Freya's side.
“Freya’s searching for you Selene.”
She scoffed and folded her arms over her chest.
“Let the bitch find me. With your army at my side, she won’t stand a chance alone, even with her new powers.”
“New powers?...” I shook my head, “It doesn’t matter. She’s not alone, Selene. She has a dragon subpet.”
She scowled at me, her sadistic eyes not leaving mine for a second. When I didn’t submit, she closed her eyes and slammed her fist down on the arm of the couch. Kali jumped and then ran away from her seat when Selene howled into the air. I’d never seen Kali afraid of anything before, I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
“Shit. I knew he took some of her Phoenix power, but I didn’t think it was enough to affect him, or form a subpet bond. Crap, if she finds me, I’m screwed.” She went silent for a second then yelled at me, “Sam! What am I going to do?”
I turned to look at her, and replied,
“I have a safe place, deep underground. If she has new powers, I’m assuming she might have the ability to see heat sources, and if she can, maybe they are color coordinated. If I’m correct, then this place will be perfect, it’s surrounded by iron, steel and concrete, there is no way she’s seeing through that.”
“You want me to be imprisoned deep underground in some fucking dungeon?” She snapped back in horror.
“I don’t see any other options. Do you?”
She sighed and shook her head. It was a perfect plan, I could get rid of Selene and Kali, and let them think that I was keeping them safe. In fact, I was getting them out of the way, and there was no way in hell either of them could break out of that place. I’d had nightmares about it all my life, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to go back there again. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to see her again. It had been decades, and every time I went down there, I got closer and closer to letting her out. I hoped this time I’d be strong enough to fight against her powers of persuasion.
Freya Rose
I had Savanah and Traian screaming out in my mind, telling me not to hunt down Selene, but I couldn’t stop myself. Draco agreed, and with his thoughts of vengeance blending with my own, I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to. She'd done so much, and the way she was behaving right now, I couldn’t trust her to be out of my site. What if she built an alliance with Kali, or worse, Azael? She was unstable and unpredictable. I at least needed to know where the hell she was, and better yet, have her caged up on the property.
We flew far enough away from the cabin, and my mind had become my own again. Mina was staying out of it, and apart from the occasional muttering from Draco, I was free to think for myself. I thought about places she might go. I knew she didn’t have many fans. Evan and Mason should have forgotten me, so they might be a possibility, but I thought of the first place to check, with Samael. It had been ages since he'd run off with Kali and left me in that dreadful hunter’s mansion with Azael. He played me, and was clearly in cahoots with Kali the whole time.
Selene had changed so much since being with Evan, but I guess the more and more power she lost, the more she wanted it. She turned back into the devious and cruel bitch she was before. Maybe Evan being back in her life would bring out her nice side again, but I didn’t have time to find him. Once I had her back, then I could think of a plan to reunite them. Until then, I needed to find Selene, and face Kali and Samael. I wasn’t looking forward to our meeting, and I didn’t know if I’d be able to stop myself killing Kali and mutilating Sam, we would just have to find out.
I had a rough idea of where we were going. Sam had mentioned his castle a few times when we were close, and my new senses were going wild the closer I got to him. The second I’d focused my hunter’s abilities on him, I picked up on Selene's scent too, so I knew she was with him. I tried to sense Kali too but I couldn’t. There was a lot of vampire energies and scents the closer we got to the castle, and a few human energies too. I guessed that they were blood dolls or something twisted. Since becoming a vampire myself, I hadn’t fed on anyone. I hadn’t felt the need to because Traian had the cabin stocked up with blood bags, and that was more than enough for me.
Although I couldn’t lie, one particular human smelled delicious, and it had been a while since I last fed. I shook the thoughts out of my head as soon as the castle came into view. It was circled by a stone path and around the path was some grass that led up to a huge wood. From this high up I could see the entire grounds, but I guessed from down there it would have been tough to find the place unless you knew where to look.
“Where should I land?” Draco asked through a mind link.
I glanced down at the castle and could see a lot of energy lights from the vampires that were readily making their way to the front door. They were led by a beaming gold light, and I felt like a month drawn to a flame. I guessed it was Sam and I was surprisingly less angry than I thought I’d be. I told Draco to land right in the middle of the driveway. I wasn’t scared by the amount of vampires I saw pouring out of the castle like rats. They were all hissing and snarling into the air, but knowing what I could do to Selene had me feeling untouchable. Sam stood in front of them staring up at me with a sexy smirk on his face.
I glared at him as Draco descended towards the ground. When we were around ten feet away from landing, I ascended and let Draco reach the ground by himself. The vampires crouched down, ready to attack him, but when his huge feet boomed as they hit the ground, his sheer size scared the hell out of them and they began to back off. When he growled into the air, a few of them screamed in fear, and it excited my hunter’s side. Sam hadn’t taken his eyes off of me, and followed my every move as I gracefully swooped down in front of him.
I landed one foot and then the other, placed my wings behind me and strutted towards him. A few brave vampires hissed at me, but that soon stopped when I clicked my fingers and Draco shot an electric fireball towards them. I stood in front of Samael and his pathetic brood. I scanned over the miserable bunch, then focused my attention on him. I could tell that all it would take was for me to burst into flames myself, and his whole brood would scurry away like the vermin they were. I decided to give him the option to save their lives instead.
“As nice as it is to have a welcome party. I’d like to speak to you alone.”
With a nod of his head, and a few disagreeing hisses, his brood reluctantly headed back into the castle.
“I’ll need some clothes for Draco.”
“I will have Lilith bring some immediately. I’m guessing he will be hungry?”
I turned my head towards Draco, he mind linked me to tell me he was starving. I glanced back at Sam and could see him admiring Draco.
“He’s impressive, isn’t he?” I stated.
“Incredibly. Can I touch him?”
“I wouldn’t suggest going near him until he’s eaten, you don’t want to lose any precious appendages,” I whispered into his ear as I grabbed a hold of his cock and squeezed it just enough for it to hurt.
I heard him gulp as my hand released its grip. I tapped his chest and strutted towards the castle. He cleared his throat and followed behind me. I walked up the steps, all calm and collected, but as soon as I walked in through those doors, I smelled that delicious scent. I frantically sniffed the air trying to find where the smell was coming from. It wasn’t like a delicious smell I was attracted to; it was a smell that I wanted to devour whoever was omitting it. My mouth was watering beyond belief. I’d never wanted to eat something more in my life. My wings fanned out and I spun around, launching myself at Samael. I’m sure I must have flown at him because I don’t remember my feet taking any strides along the ground.
I pinned Samael up against the wall and snarled into his face,
“What humans do you have down there?”
I pointed towards a large red rug that ran along the length of the hallway.
“I have no idea what you mean Freya.”
“Lies!” I screamed at him, and before he had a chance to reply I’d let him go and sprinted over towards the rug.
I ripped the rug up, revealing a steel door, much like the one that was at the hunter’s mansion.
“Open it.”
“I can’t Freya, I’m sorry,” he replied while walking towards me holding his hands up. “Look, if you’re hungry, I can have some blood brought to the office.”
He placed his hand gently on my arm, and I couldn’t control myself, I needed to find that human, it was all that I could think about. I grabbed his hand and bent it so far back that I heard the tiny bones inside it break and snap. He groaned a little, but he did well to hide his pain. I stepped closer to him and hissed into his ear,
“Either you open it willingly, or I’ll rip your hand from your body and open it myself. Your choice, Sam.”
A gasp echoed from beside me and my head shot around to see who it was. I guessed it must have been Lilith because the girl was carrying some clothes. She glanced at me and then at Sam, when he caught her eye, she nodded her head. They were mind linking, but I didn’t care, it got me what I wanted.
“Fine, I’ll open the door.”
I released his hand, and I’d done more damage than I’d meant to, his wrist went limp, so he had to hold it steady to place it onto the handprint activation pad. It clicked and beeped, and he stepped back allowing the door to open up, revealing a set of stone stairs. It was dark down there, but with vampire vision, it wasn’t an issue for me. I stepped forward as soon as the scent hit my nose, but I spotted Lilith’s eyes twinkle.
“You go first,” I instructed Sam, before turning to Lilith. “If you trap us down here, I’ll light him up like a fucking barbeque. Understand?” I held my hand out and created a small fireball.
Her eyes grew wide as she gasped. She nodded her head at me, as Sam walked in front of me, leading the way into the depths of the earth. I knew it went a long way down. How far exactly, I didn’t know, but I needed to find that human. It seemed like we’d been descending those stairs for miles, and when we finally got to the bottom, we were met by a long corridor that led to a steel door. Sam got to the door first and keyed in some numbers. He stood back and held his hand out for me to go first. I contemplated him going in first, but with Draco outside, I gathered he wouldn’t do anything too stupid.
“Okay, let's see what you’ve got hidden down here shall we?” The bright white lights buzzed as they turned on, blinding me for a few seconds. “Shit, you could have given me a heads up, Sam!”
A low chuckle was his reply. I’d missed that deep laugh of his.
“Sorry, it activates as soon as someone steps in.”
He walked past me, and as soon as my eyes adjusted, I scanned around the room.
“Cages?”
“Yeah, this is where we keep the vampires that break the rules.”
“And blood dolls?” I questioned, knowing I could smell humans.
“Yeah, we keep them in the next room.”
I listened to him, but I couldn’t stop glancing over at a frail old woman stood directly behind him. She had her face covered by hair so I couldn’t see her fully, but she kept tapping on the glass of the cell.
Tap, tap, tap.
I glanced back up at Sam and he held the bridge of his nose with his fingers, and closed his eyes tight.
Tap, tap, tap.
I looked around him at the old lady, finger poised to tap again.
Tap, tap, tap.
“Oh my God mother, stop it would you!” Sam spun around and snapped at the old lady.
She shuffled backwards and pressed herself face first into the corner of the glass cage. When Sam finally turned to face me, I couldn’t help but ask,
“You have your mother in a cage?”
He sighed and rolled his eyes in a defeated way.
“Please don’t judge me, Freya. Just leave it, you have no idea what she’s done.”
“But she’s your mother, Sam!” I couldn’t help but snap at him.
“Freya, leave it, please. I can’t deal with your judgment or disgust. Let’s just find what scent you’re looking for, then you can be on your way,” he replied, not even bothering to look at me.
He casually strolled past me and keyed another number into the second door. I heard it open, so I made my way towards him. He stood there waiting for me, but I couldn’t help but take one last look at his mother. I gasped when she peered at me through the strands of her jet-black hair. Her eye was just like Azael’s. I jumped back a little when a set of jet-black bat-like wings shot out from her back. She cackled into the air and tapped on the glass again.
Tap, tap, tap.
“He’ll find you Freya. And when he does, he'll make you pay for leaving him.”
She cackled into the air again, the type of laugh that could only come from a crazy person. I won’t lie, it sent a shiver right to my core. I jumped a little when Sam placed his hands onto my arms.
“Shhh, it’s just me. Ignore her, she’s crazy,” he whispered into my ear, and his warm and velvet voice immediately calmed my nerves.
All I could think of now was his large hands wrapped around my arms, his skin on mine. His soft touch melted me. My eyes moved up his broad chest, along his stubbled jawline and landed on those plump lips. Lips I wanted to devour, suck, bite. I licked my bottom lip as my eyes trailed up to meet his. Those golden-brown pools that sucked me in all those years ago, began sucking me in again, and it was like he'd never left me. Like he'd never run away with…
My thoughts were cut off as that delicious scent pretty much slapped me in the face. My head shot around and I gasped out,
“Kali?”
