A Kiss
“Aaron just kiss me already.”
Cadence was shocked by her own boldness, and she wondered if she should try to turn it into a joke. Aaron must have been surprised to receive that message; she was equally as surprised that she had sent it But when he took a step forward, she knew there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
He gently moved a lock of hair away from her face, meeting her eyes. His hand encircled her waist, and he pulled her closer. Cadence’s breath caught in her throat. His lips were so close to hers, she could feel the warmth of each exhale fanning her face.
Cadence’s gaze shifted from those intense sapphire eyes to his mouth and then back again as she bit down on her bottom lip, her heart banging against her ribcage. He was waiting. Rather, he was making her wait, and it was killing her. The fluttering in her stomach intensified and radiated downward, the longing for him escalating with every passing second.
His warm lips grazed hers gently at first, leaving Cadence lifting up onto her tiptoes, straining to get more. Increasing the pressure, Aaron pulled her even closer, and her hands slid along his granite chest, up to his shoulders where more rippling muscles met her fingertips.
He was a solid wall of strength.
Cadence slid her hands up to the back of his head, opening her mouth and tasting him. The flavor of cinnamon filled her senses as each tap of his tongue against hers sent electricity pulsing through her, shooting down to her apex.
When Aaron pulled back, allowing them both to breathe, Cadence decided she’d rather be deprived of oxygen than him and leaned into him again.
With a soft chuckle, he said, “I have to go.”
“All ready?” With her body pressed against his, Cadence felt warm, his arms around her the perfect shelter.
Reaching up to caress her cheek with his thumb, he nodded. “I’m the boss. The boss can’t be late.”
Thinking she heard reluctance in his voice, Cadence tried again. “Maybe just… a little late?” His smile widened, and she pulled him to her again.
Aaron didn’t resist, and this time, Cadence deepened the kiss, leaning into him and tangling her tongue around his. Heat shot through her body, and all she could think about was wrapping her legs around his waist and begging him to carry her into the bedroom.
Her mind clouded over, and as his lips consumed hers, pulling her bottom lip into his mouth and sucking before releasing it and kissing her again, Cadence tried to decipher what it was about him exactly that made her feel this way, like she wanted to consume him.
No simple answer came to mind, though. Everything about him, from his eyes to that sexy smile lit her on fire.
Aaron pulled away from her again, this time putting even more room between them. “I really have to go now,” he said, clearing his throat as if that might bring some clarity back to him.
Reluctantly, Cadence sighed out, “Okay.” Her eyelids dropped for a moment, and with her eyes shut, she tried to imprint him into her mind… to save him for later. With another deep breath, she managed to pull her fingers out of his hair.
Aaron still seemed as if he did not want to go. Shaking his head slightly, he said, “They’re asking where I am at.”
“I understand.” She did. Even though she didn’t want him to leave. She understood he had a job to do.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” he reminded her. Aaron lowered his head and brushed his lips softly against her forehead.
Finally, Cadence found a way to pull herself away. It was as if she were awakening from a dream.
A very pleasant dream.
With her mind clear, she muttered, “Right… okay,” as she snapped back to reality. Had she just made out with her boss?
Aaron pulled open the door but gave her one last longing glance before his eyes crinkled at the edges and that crooked grin spread across his face. He slipped away so quickly, she could hardly see him go.
Cadence closed the door behind him. Taking a deep breath, she turned around and leaned against the barrio, slowly sliding down to the ground. A finger went to her lips, swollen and sore in the best way imaginable.
Despite the heat rising in her cheeks, Cadence couldn’t help but smile. He had kissed her back, after all.
“He kissed me back,” she whispered, her grin widening even further. She pulled her knees into her chest and sighed, hoping these kisses were the first of many sweet moments to come.
