CHAPTER 13

**Nadine’s First Life: Heartbreak**
Nadine wiped away her tears and tried to compose herself. She felt a little relieved after she cried. It's been a few days since she took care of the pain caused by Marcus's infidelity, but did he really betrayed her? They were not in a relationship to begin with! She just assumed that things would go well between them without considering his feelings.
She was so focused on her pain that she disregarded the people who cared for her. She refused to join their family dinner, and she also refused to talk to her parents. She isolated herself inside her bedroom.
While she was trying to calm down, she suddenly heard a commotion outside. It was Kate’s voice! She couldn’t be mistaken! Kate cried out. Nadine was shattered because of Kate’s cries. She didn’t waste another minute and ran toward the door. Fortunately, Kate was already outside her room, and the woman was about to knock.
“Kate, what’s wrong with you? Why are you crying? Did someone die?”
“Nadine! Your father, Nadine!” Kate exclaimed incoherently.
“Why? What happened to Daddy? Where is he by the way?”
“Your father was injured, and he’s missing!”
“Injured? Why? What happened?” She asked several questions because lately, she just holed up in her bedroom.
“It’s on the news, Nadine,” Kate said.
Nadine immediately returned inside her room to turn on the television, and just like what Kate said, the live news update mentioned a plane crash! Her eyes widened as she watched the news!
She had no idea that her father was gone! She refused to believe the flash report but when the list of passengers on board the plane that crashed was revealed, cold shivers ran through her spine. Nadine stumbled as she struggled to keep her balance but Kate was immediately by her side to assist.

Gradually, her strength was exhausted, and she lost consciousness.
When Nadine woke up, she saw Kate’s concerned face. There was a hint of worry on Kate’s face. She restrained herself from crying again but her tears flowed spontaneously. She didn’t want to accept that her Daddy was gone! He was the Alpha of Midnight Pack, so she believed he survived the explosion!
“Nadine, calm down,” Kate said in a comforting voice.
“I’m just dreaming, right? I’m just having a bad dream right now,” she said while being in denial. Then, Kate cried once again. They were both crying when she remembered her mother. If she was devastated by the news, how much more was Diana? “What about my mother? Where is she?”
“She lost her consciousness when she saw the news. The Beta took her to the hospital. She will be fine, don’t worry,” Kate mumbled to assure Nadine.
“I am scared, Kate,” she admitted.
“Shhh, I won’t leave. I will always be here for you,” Kate promised.
“Thank you, Kate. If you’re not here with me, I don’t know what do to,” Nadine said in a hoarse voice before hugging Kate.
Later that day, Nadine received a call from the hospital that her mother was in a critical condition. She was informed that Diana has a serious disease which she hid from Frederick. Nadine was so shocked to hear about it. While her mother was in a coma, she had to mourn alone.
For several days, she waited for the news update about the plane crash survivor but it seemed that everyone has died. Still, she was thankful for the Beta because he took care of her mother. She was also grateful with Kate because the woman didn’t leave her alone. Kate mourned with her. If Kate wasn’t with her, she might have gone completely crazy especially when Marcus didn’t bother to check on her.
With each passing day, she missed her father a lot, and she regretted the times when she refused to talk to him. Every time she recalled how many times Frederick Smith tried to talk to her about the situation, tears would automatically roll from her eyes. However, she realized that no matter how much more crying she would do, her Daddy would never come back alive!
“What is your plan now that your father is gone?” Kate asked while they offered their prayers for the departed loved love.
“I need to find a husband as soon as possible, Kate. The pack couldn’t survive without an Alpha for a long time,” Nadine muttered the truth.
“I think Beta Maverick can lead the pack in your father’s absence,” Kate suggested but when she realized what she had just said, she immediately zipped her mouth. “I mean, as an Alpha’s daughter, you should marry an Alpha, and you are aware that an Alpha has his own pack to lead.”
“I get your point, Kate, but what should I do?”
“Call Marcus,” Kate suggested.
“No! Over my dead body!” She declared angrily.
