Chapter 15
**Jaxson**
I felt my heart break into a million pieces when my mate didn’t even know who I was. My insides were burning and ripping me in half when she asked me who I was. I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her until she remembered me. I wanted to kiss her lips and claim her all over again. I so badly wanted to do so many things, but I knew it wouldn’t be happening.
She rolled back over and her breathing slowed down. She had her back to me as she softly snored. Cole has been trying to talk to me along with my sister, but I’ve shut them out. All I want right now is for my Lana to remember.
“Jaxson.” Cole tried to talk to me again.
I need space from everyone so I can get my wolf under control. There’s no telling what he would do if he became angry. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but if they don’t stop bothering me I will explode. It’s just a matter of time until he breaks free.
“Jaxson, talk to us.”
There’s that annoying fucking voice again. My beta may be my best friend, but I’ll still kick his ass if he doesn’t stop with the shit.
“Jaxson!”
I felt nothing but rage when a hand clamped down on my shoulder.
“Don’t fucking touch me!” My eyes glowered and my chest heaved. I was barely holding on by a string. A thin one. I closed my eyes and felt my canines poking my bottom lip. My bones ached and my skin was on fire.
Fuck, I can’t be shifting here.
Fight it, Jaxson.
I opened my eyes and tried to fight my wolf, but it only got worse with each breath. He clawed his way through my flesh to the surface. Cole backed away knowing that I had no control over it and slowly walked back to the door. I bolted out the door just in time to hear my bones cracking and shifting into my wolf. He was craving his mate and there was nothing I could do to calm him. The only thing that would calm him would be the scent and touch of our mate.
He led me to the middle of the forest to the clearing. My paws padded on the wet grass through the rain and a bolt of lightning flashed as thunder echoed around me.
The wind blew through my fur as I skidded to a stop. My wolf led me to Tara’s grave. I haven’t been back here since the day I buried her. I couldn’t even bring myself to come back here. It hurt too much.
Why did he lead me here?
I could hear him whispering to me as if he was in pain. My body started to relax and my fur disappeared as I transformed back to my human form. I was left completely naked on the cold ground.
I rolled into a ball and shivered from the rain pouring down on me. Is there something he was trying to tell me? My mind was all kinds of fucked-up. There had to be a reason he took the time to bring me out here.
Think, Jaxson…think.
There has to be some sort of clue I’m missing. I studied the headstone trying to look for something only I had no idea what I would be searching for.
“Jaxson.” A soft melodic voice calls out to me.
“No…You’re not real.” My voice cracked as she stood behind the stone.
“Jax, I called out to your wolf because there are some things you need to know.” Tara knelt reaching her hand out to me.
I had to be going crazy right now if I thought I was seeing my dead wife. “You must make sure Lana remembers because if she doesn’t all hell will break loose. The war between the witches and the wolves will break out.” Her body vanished before I could say anything else.
A war will break out if she doesn’t remember me?
Had I just seen Tara, or was it a rage-induced hallucination?
“I’ve been looking all over for you.” Cole breathes out catching his breath and hands me a pair of shorts. “What are you doing way out here?”
“I don’t know,” I whispered looking at the headstone as I took the shorts from him. I stood up pulling the shorts past my hips letting them hang low on me. I wasn’t sure how I needed to answer him about seeing Tara.
“She was here.”
“Who?”
“Tara… I saw her.”
I didn’t believe in ghosts, but I know what I saw. I saw the ghost of her and she was sent here to warn me. Lana had to remember or else war would break out. I had to make sure it never happened and if I had to make Lana fall in love with me all over again I would. Maybe then her memories would come back to her.
I would make her fall in love with me again.
It’s just going to take some time.
“But she’s dead.” He widened his eyes in shock.
“I know.”
It’s been a few days since Lana woke up and she’s been demanding to let her leave. Over my dead body. She’s not leaving and that’s final. She’s not going to leave only to be found by Lorenzo while she’s carrying my baby.
Does she even know she’s pregnant?
I paced back and forth in the office thinking of how I was going to tell Lana she was carrying my child. Cole approached me rubbing the back of his neck. “Lana told your sister that she was planning to sneak out tonight.”
I froze and snapped my head up. “We’ll see about that.”
If she thinks she’s going to succeed, she must be out of her mind. I stood in behind the tree and waited for her to attempt to escape from here. She looked around watching for anyone to spot her. She’s going to get a surprise when she winds up in my arms.
She made her way to the forest and quietly stepped closer. She went past the tree and I wrapped my arms around her preventing her from moving. I leaned down to take in her scent and she screamed out. “Let me go!”
It felt so good to have my mate in my arms again.
“Quit squirming.”
I licked her mark. I could smell the arousal radiating off her. She moaned out when I sucked her skin. She may not remember us being mates, but she can’t resist the pull.
“Stop it! I don’t even know you.” I’ve been away from my mate for far too long. I licked up to her ear and nibbled on the shell of her ear.
“You’re coming back with me. We need to have a little chat.”
I had Cole guarding the outside of my office so she couldn’t try to escape. I can’t risk her getting away.
“You have amnesia.” I peered at her through a pained expression. “You don’t remember me, but I’m your mate.”
I paused not knowing if I should tell her about carrying my child.
She narrowed her eyes and glared at me. I know I shouldn’t be getting turned on by her being angry with me, but I can’t help it.
“Is that all?” She crossed her arms over her chest pushing her breasts up.
“You’re pregnant…with my child.” She gasped as she brought her hand to her mouth.
I knew she didn’t remember me, and that’s what hurts the most. She stood up and tried to run to the door, but I trapped her to the wall.
“I’m sorry.” I kissed her forehead. “I can’t let you leave. If I have to chain you to the bed to keep you here, then I will.”
The door opened and Cole looked at our position. “Everything okay?”
I nodded, never taking my eyes off her.
“Jaxson.” He croaked out to me. He was in pain and if he was in pain that only meant one thing. My sister is hurt. I watched him as he doubled over in pain holding his stomach.
“Go.” I pulled Lana by the arm and sat her on the bed and straddled her waist. I reached over and took the handcuffs from my nightstand. “I can’t risk you sneaking out again.”
I put her hands above her head and wrapped the cuffs around the headboard and closed the cold metal around her wrists.
She pulled on the chain in anger. “You asshole!”
I stood up and walked to the door looking back at her one last time shaking my head. “You can’t just leave me like this!”
“I’m sorry.”
I ran out of there as fast as I could and found my sister curled up in a ball holding her stomach. Cole was on the floor doing the same thing. “What’s happening?”
Cole croaked out breathing hard. “She’s in heat.”
