Chapter 61

Despite her insistence on going out alone, Frank refused to let her out of his sight and stubbornly insisted on driving her to her destination. Tired of arguing with the giant of a man, Rachel finally gave in and told him to take her to Derek’s office.

They drove there in Derek’s white Bentley and when they arrived at his office building, Rachel told Frank to wait for her at the reception area.

“Hi, I’m here to see Mr. Fraser,” Rachel informed the receptionist.

“Hi, do you have an appointment with him?”

“Come on, Cheryl. Don’t you recognize me?”

Cheryl was surprised. “I – I don’t think so.”

Rachel rolled her eyes. “I am Rachel Lane and the last time we met here was about two years ago when you wouldn’t let me in and I ended up running into Derek at the parking lot and then we came back inside together. Does that jog your memory?”

“Oh, oh yes! I remember you now,” said Cheryl with wide eyes. “You look… different,” she added.

“I hope in a good way?” Rachel grinned.

“Of course. You look fabulous.”

“Thank you. So, can I go in and see my boyfriend in his office now? This is more of a surprise visit, you know?” She added with a conspiratory wink.

Cheryl’s smile faltered. “Uh, I see. I should probably inform his secretary – “

“No,” said Rachel quickly. “She’ll tell him that I’m here and I don’t want that. This is supposed to be a surprise, remember?”

“Well, uh…”

“It’s fine, trust me,” she said and strutted to the elevator like a runway model. Inside, she admired her outfit which was a champagne-colored mini bodycon dress that had only one strap and put all of her curves on display, including her inviting cleavage. She hadn’t taken time to brush her hair but the tousled look turned out to be perfect for the sex bomb image that she was going for. She wore a pair of black Chanel sandals and carried a small purse of the same color.

The elevator stopped on the 16th floor and Rachel strutted out of it like a proud peacock. She couldn’t wait to see the surprise on Derek’s face when he sees her. When she got to Diane’s desk, the secretary stared at her with amazement but before Rachel could speak, Derek’s office door opened, and then it was Rachel’s turn to be amazed.

Cassie stepped out of Derek’s office with him and she was still wearing the same outfit she was dressed in when she’d showed up at the penthouse earlier. When she saw Rachel, she looked at her from head to toe with disgust before she burst out laughing.

“What is this clown doing here?” She asked in between laughs. “What the fuck are you wearing?”

“Cassie,” said Derek in a warning tone.

“What is she doing here?” Rachel asked him.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Cassie answered, then she turned toward Derek and kissed him, smudging her red lipstick all over his lips.

He broke the kiss and gently pushed her away. “What the hell are you doing?” He asked irritably.

“Oh, stop it, Derek. It’s too late to act innocent now,” she said and giggled.

“Leave, now,” said Derek quietly. His temper was simmering and Cassie was the cause of it.

“Sure, why not? You know where to find me, don’t you? I’ll be waiting,” she said and blew him a kiss before walking away. As she passed Rachel, she intentionally brushed past her and whispered, “Loser.”

“I am so sorry about that,” Derek apologized immediately after Cassie was gone. “She only kissed me to upset you. Nothing happened between us inside my office, I swear.”

Rachel felt like a fool, especially because that embarrassing scene had played out right in front of Diane. The secretary/administrative assistant had been there to witness her shame!

“I don’t even know what to say,” she admitted.

“Come into my office, let’s talk,” said Derek, opening his office door wider for her to enter.

She walked in slowly like a robot and sat on the Chester couch in his office. Her excitement at coming to see him had since deflated and she now felt like a fool instead.

“First of all, wipe that nonsense lipstick off your mouth,” she said.

Derek hurried to his desk and grabbed a handful of tissue from the Kleenex box on his desk and wiped his lips vigorously.

“So, what did she come here to do? To give you a quickie?” Rachel asked distastefully.

“No,” replied Derek, coming to sit beside her on the couch. “She tried to convince me to kick you and Zoe out of the penthouse and restart my relationship with her.”

“That bitch!”

“I told her no, and that my heart is with you.”

“And she still kissed you?”

“She did that to spite you. She was very mad just before you show up, so she did that little stunt just to annoy you. Listen, Cassie doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. I don’t need her or any other woman in my life anymore, not when I have you. Rachel, you are everything to me. I love you and I mean that in every way possible.”

Rachel felt her anger melting away as Derek spoke because she could hear the sincerity in his voice and it touched her deeply.

“I love you too, Derek, but I don’t know if I can handle these sort of upsetting surprises any longer. This is the second time I’m running into you and that woman in your private space. Is that something I’m going to have to deal with all the time throughout our relationship?”

“No. I promise you, this is the last time you’ll ever run into Cassie here. I will instruct my security team not to ever allow her into this building again.”

“And the penthouse?”

“What about it?”

“She was there today. I came here as soon as she left.”

Derek was gobsmacked. “She showed up at our place?”

She liked how he said ‘our place’ instead of ‘my place,’ and that softened her heart even more.

“Yes, she did and when I threatened to call security, she laughed in my face and told me they were the ones that let her in, which means, they think she still has a right to be there.”

“I’ll notify them too and let them know that she’s no longer welcome there,” he assured her.

“Good,” she said and got to her feet.

“Are you leaving?” Derek asked, sounding disappointed.

“Do you want me to leave?” She asked coyly.

“Absolutely not,” he said getting to his feet. “Let’s go out and have lunch together.”

“Aren’t you worried that the paparazzi will see us together?” She asked, eager to hear his response. A part of her wanted to confirm that what Cassie had said to her at the penthouse were lies and that Derek wasn’t hiding her away from the public.

“What’s my business with the paparazzi?” He scoffed. “We have Mark and Frank to toss away anyone who tries to get in our faces with their cameras. And you know what? I think today is a good time for me to show off my woman to the world. You are already dressed for the occasion as it is.”

Rachel grinned. “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” he said and kissed her.

“Actually, I had something else in mind when I came here,” she said. “We should probably get that out of the way first before we head out for lunch.”

“Ok…” he said expectantly.

She lifted her mini dress to show him that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath, then she sashayed to his desk and bent over it, exposing her private parts to him in a clear invitation.

“Hold that position,” he said and ran to lock the door before walking back toward her. He shrugged off his jacket and flung it away and quickly undid his fly.

“This is the perfect appetizer served on a platter of gold,” he chuckled while he rubbed himself against her.

“Trust me, it tastes better than it looks,” she giggled.

They made love ferociously like a pair of ravenous wild animals and when they were finally satisfied, they fixed their clothes and left the office for their lunch date.

Diane was surprised to see the two of them smiling out of the office when only a few minutes ago, Rachel looked like she was about to murder Derek.

“I’ll be heading home after lunch,” he said to her. “Cancel the rest of my meetings today and take the rest of the day off.”

“But – “

“Bye, Diane. You’re welcome!” He said and led Rachel into the elevator.

“Today must be the strangest work day for Diane since she started working with you,” said Rachel. “Her mouth was open the entire time.”

Derek laughed. “Poor Diane.”

“Did you confront her about spying on you?”

“No, what’s the point? I know why she has been doing it and I’m not sure she’ll have anything new to share with Yasmin anymore.”

“Today’s episode is definitely something worth sharing.”

Derek chuckled. “Maybe.”

“Have you thought about reaching out to Yasmin?”

“What for?”

“I don’t know, just for the sake of it. Alfred already confirmed everything she told us, so that means she wasn’t lying.”

He sighed.
