Chapter 28
**Alexander’s point of view: The journey into the unknown. **
A few days later, disguised as part of the crew and without any trouble, Xavier and I boarded the ferry, that was scheduled to transport a load of supplies to the werewolf realm. After a while, the mist finally cleared and warm rays of sunlight greeted us, when the ferry entered the still waters of the werewolf kingdom.
When we came closer to the shore, they placed a gangplank also known as a ship brow, over the gap between the boat and riverbed. Afterwards, we slowly started to unload the stacks of supplies. Later when everything was unloaded onto the shore, most of the crew, went to a shaded area to rest for a while, eat and drink something and freshen up a little next to large containers full of cold, fresh water.
Not to rise any suspicion, we followed the rest of the crews lead and also sat down, while we also ate and drank something with the rest of them. Later when most of them were asleep, we saw an opportunity to take our leave and brake away from the rest of the group. Silently, we gathered our things and slowly started to crawl through the sand and made our way over one of the sand dunes.
When we were sure no one could see us anymore, we finally stood up right and stretched out our legs and arm. Afterwards, the both of us drank the potion at the same time, before we changed into a pair of different styed clothing, known to be worn by the werewolf’s, while they reside in their two-legged forms.
We waited for a half an hour, for the potion to work through our systems, before we continued our journey further into the unknown territory that was surrounding us.
Under other circumstances, when I usually come to visit the royal werewolf family, there would always be a reception to greed me, as soon as I get of the ferry boat. I would also be transported with a two-wheeled cart, drawn by two royal werewolf guards, shape shifted into their four-legged forms, that’s when they are known to be at their strongest and fastest form.
We walked for quite some time, when the sun started to set over the sand dunes, that were laid out on the path in front of us. Xavier and I decided to set up camp for the night, when the sun had completely disappeared and the stars and moon took its place in the sky above us. While the night advanced on, Xavier and I, each took turns keeping watch over our campsite and resting in between for the duration of the night.
While I was on watch, I couldn’t help but think of Odette. Since the very first time I saw her silver locks of hair, I was intrigued by its transformation from gold to silver locks… The little time I did spend in her presence, I noticed that the transformation always seemed to take place, during the appearance of the moon, just after sunset.
Every time the transformation takes place, it didn’t seem to affect her in any way, it seems to be a natural occurrence, that she has long been used too already. When, I finally get the chance to reunite with my darling Odette, I will also get the chance to ask her about her mesmerising transformation that she undergoes each and every night.
By the next morning, when the sun came up over the sand dunes, we were very relieved that our first night, went well in the dessert realm. It had gone by without any signs of unexpected and unwanted werewolf company, discovering the location of our campsite by accident.
Before continuing with our journey deeper into the werewolf realm, through the unfamiliar and uneven surface of the sandy dunes; we first enjoyed some of the refreshments, that we brought with us from the vampire realm. Later when our stomachs were full and we had some newfound strength to carry on, we packed everything up and went on our way.
As the day proceeded, the temperature also got hotter with each passing hour. Thanks to my combined DNA, it didn’t affect me as much as it did Xavier. With Xavier’s pure, cold vampire chromosomes, it was almost impossible for him to bear the heat… But luckily after knowing him for most of my life, I knew that he was mentally and physically strong enough to withstand the excruciating agony that he’s going through for a bit longer, even if it meant carrying him on my back, the rest of the way!
Before losing all hope of finding the main werewolf capital, a large mountain made out of solid rock suddenly appeared in front of us. The mountain had steep steps that was carved out of the solid rock, leading up to different sized, round holes, that was also carved into the mountain side with bare hands! The holes are being used as entrances to the connecting tunnels, leading to the main city underneath the ground.
We both were very relieved to have finally found the reason for enduring all the hardships, we came across in this new unknown territory. With a sigh of relief, we looked for shelter from the sun, behind one of the larger dunes, located nearby the steps leading up to the entrances into the mountain side.
A few hours later, the sun had finally begun to set. With the slow approaching, all-engulfing darkness of the night, also came relief from the unbearable heat of the sun-filled day. It took a while for Xavier and I to fully recover from another exhausting day, of traveling on foot in this unforgiving and harsh environment…
Later that night, when the moon was at its fullest and we had regained most of our strength, we slowly started to make our way across the cleared pathway. It was located next to the steep steps, that led us to the entrances of the tunnels going inside the mountain. We decided to go into the first large tunnel we came across. Inside the tunnel it was very dark, so our eyes first had to adjust to the surroundings, before we could keep exploring ahead.
After a while of carefully and silently making our way through the tunnel system, we came to an abrupt stop, when we suddenly heard voices coming our direction from ahead! My thoughts quickly rushed through my head, while trying to figure out a way, out of the impending encounter that is awaiting us…
Then a thought suddenly struck me like a lightning bolt; the disguising potion! I finally recall the potion that we had takin, before we started our journey deeper into the kingdom. After two days of enduring this harsh environment of sun and unbearable heat, we had already forgotten all about the life saving, disguising potion. From extensive research, uncle told us, the potion is likely to stay in our system for up to two to three weeks.
After quickly reminding Xavier of the potion, we calmly waited for the approaching wolfs to pass by us. They were carrying a burning torch that illuminated the tunnel with a soft yellow glow, that became visible the closer they got. When they were close enough to our position, they also became aware of our presence and quickly gazed in our direction…
